Java syntax has many problems, but they are very easy to overcome thanks to IDE and many JVM tools.
Try to make sample webapp using Maven 2:

Spring is just some Java library, XML/XSLT is too simple to break anything.
It is not something the author should care about, because it's very new with uncertain future. Most likely he will find a job on some typical Java codebase(standard approach to concurrency problems).
Perhaps it does not make much sense to make such websites if "advertising" is the only viable option?

Only because Bing/DDG SERPs were not gamed by "SEO" activity doesn't mean it can't be done and/or those SEs algos are any better than Googles.
Perhaps the way how you approached your own startup was wrong. Why quit job entirely rather than develop some network of freelancers and outsource time consuming tasks to them? It will increase costs, but also greatly reduce overall risk.
That's why I am sceptical about this new cool and ambitious built-in MM replication.
Not planning to have database distributed all over the globe and even if I had to distribute the data I would do this on application level with tools like RabbitMQ.
Haveing table A, B, C with FK in A and B to C_column1, running function which updates A and other function which updates B, both refering to same C row via FK, but not modyfing it in any way - causes deadlock.
in pre 9.3, now its fixed, so I can use FKs again after so many years and its just creazy:)
if they wanted to be business partners they wouldn't become employees in first place
