ghostDancer··on Can we stop the decline of monarch butterflies and other pollinators?
Think of all the profits and growth that would be lost if we take care of Earth. Think of the rich.
ghostDancer··on Squatting in Spain: Understanding Spain's "okupas" problem
That's interesting , where can I see those stats? And legally as you say it's not the same as squatting, it's quite different.
ghostDancer··on Squatting in Spain: Understanding Spain's "okupas" problem
In Spain there are lots of empty apartments, from the bubble and IIRC are more than 2 million empty , but prices are still going up, most of the market is on the hands of foreign funds who are emptying the cities with their prices. There's a lot of speculation with housing in Spain. Not to talk about the campaign in the media about squatting, sowing fear continuously. The supply is artificially being held by the owners.
ghostDancer··on Portugal's democracy turns 50
Supported by western democracies, USA and UK have always supported dictatorships while they are useful to them, economically and politically, and using the fear of communism they both supported both fascist regimes till the last minute.
ghostDancer··on Good news against dengue
I know. He just wants to destroy everything so he can rebuild his libertarian paradise along his his tarot reader sister.
ghostDancer··on Good news against dengue
Someone should sent this news to Argentinian government so they do something about the problem they're having right now instead of looking the other way. https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2024/apr/12/i...

ghostDancer··on Spanish agency created AI influencer and she's raking in up to $11,000 a month
Only the influencers that won't get any more money.
ghostDancer··on Streaming service prices have more than doubled since coming onto market
But nerds are a minority, most people don't know or want to take all those workarounds. They aim for them not for a minority.
ghostDancer··on The fun factor of the video game Uplink
One of the thing I recall from Uplink, apart from the game, it was the modem ringing sound and as soon as i heard it extending my hand to unplug the modem, then realizing the sound was in game. That was an immersive experience.
ghostDancer··on Iowa man files lawsuit after being arrested twice for criticizing the police
Even if he wins, the harm is done, Police wants to spread fear to make people submissive and not criticize their actions. They are not going to pay. It will pay the city, the policemen will continue with their abuses of power.
ghostDancer··on The Classic Super Star Trek Game
I remember playing a really similar game on a friend's Dragon32 a "few" years ago, around 40 years ago.
ghostDancer··on Spain cancels Pegasus spyware investigation because Israel is not co-operating
"He's a son of a bitch but He's our son of a bitch" One of long time US politics guides. Sometimes it goes wrong, Saddam Hussein, Al- Qaeda, etc ...but hey only a few peasant lives is good value for the business
ghostDancer··on Spain cancels Pegasus spyware investigation because Israel is not co-operating
There was a conspiracy group that defended that was Morocco Secret Services, they even said with help of ETA (Basque terrorist group), and more fantastic ideas. It's a loony conspiracy idea that it was sold by the extreme right media and by an informal group called "Peones negros", supported by some media, think Fox group but the Spanish counterpart, and it was dismissed because it was just that a conspiracy theory for people that believe in the Illuminati, the dark council that rules the world in the shadows, and all that stupid and loony conspiracy theories. And I'm no friend of Morocco dictatorship but that was just stupid.
ghostDancer··on Spain cancels Pegasus spyware investigation because Israel is not co-operating
The other option that was rapidly silenced was that the blackmail was to the Spanish royal Family.
ghostDancer··on ‘Less than half’ fresh produce sold globally makes any profit
You forget the middlemen and I don't mean the trucker, I mean the one that gets all the markup paying low to the producer and selling high to the shopkeeper.

ghostDancer··on Singapore to execute woman on drugs charge for the first time in 20 years
You have to compare similar situations a small island with a heavily controlled and under surveillance society is not comparable to western countries with much less controls and bigger borders easily crossed.
ghostDancer··on Plastics are poisoning us
We are poisoning ourselves in the name of economic growth would be more correct. But in HN the debate is about if plastic is a correct word and what term should be used and labeling, a place where everybody knows that the majority of people don't read labels, instructions or manuals.
ghostDancer··on A peek inside Japan's largest “Dagashi” store
Probably not invented by him but it was when it became an almost religious precept of capitalism and he became one of the most vocal preachers of that idea.
ghostDancer··on AudioEye Is Suing Me
Not the one being sued, just found it and submit it to HN thinking it may be of interest.
ghostDancer··on Mastodon Has Already Won
The thing is that Mastodon/Fediverse is not competing, it does not have to won. It exists and shows there are options different from the walled gardens. It just works different. Some people prefer local markets and little shops other prefer malls. That's it. Winning is a metric that IMHO is not applicable in this case, much more when it's usually tied to profits or numbers for investors.
ghostDancer··on Fictional Brands Archive
Arasaka appeared in Cyberpunk 2020 RPG long before the video game Cyberpunk 2077 used it.
ghostDancer··on Largest island in a lake on an island in a lake on an island (2007)
40 years ago in Spain 5 continents only, no Antarctica, my guess is as no one was living there why worry about it. Don't know if it has changed, I'll ask my son.
ghostDancer··on Largest island in a lake on an island in a lake on an island (2007)
I'm talking how we learned 40 years ago in Spain, don't know if it has changed. Antarctica wasn't even included then.
ghostDancer··on Largest island in a lake on an island in a lake on an island (2007)
Spain, at least at my time was the same. The Continents were Asia, Africa, America (North and South as one) , Europe, Oceania.
ghostDancer··on YouTube-DL Hosting Ban Paves the Way to Privatized Censorship
They even pressure some countries like Spain to change their laws to follow MPA and RIAA desires. I recall around 2010-2011 in Spain politicians made law called "Sinde", surname of the person behind it, at the time it was published in some newspapers that it came to fruition after a meeting/conversations with some USA government members, in some media they even called it "Sinde Biden", yep that one .
