ghiculescu··on Startup Anti-Patterns
It’s the first item on the list.
ghiculescu··on You only need the frontier model for one single edit
> We upstreamed it to omp

For those not sufficiently cracked... what is omp? Is there a way I can have this command or workflow in Cursor / Claude Code?

I tried going to the homepage (https://stencil.so/). It didn't really help.

ghiculescu··on Australian energy retailers must offer three hours of free daytime electricity
Yes, and nobody would describe Australian tertiary education as "super economical".
ghiculescu··on Australian energy retailers must offer three hours of free daytime electricity
10 year ROI is what I got quoted on a solar setup. I live in Queensland. It’s very sunny here.
ghiculescu··on Australian energy retailers must offer three hours of free daytime electricity
They are super economical… which is why there’s a subsidy required for people to buy them?
ghiculescu··on Show HN: Claudraband – Claude Code for the Power User
I thought Claude Code _is_ for power users. How much more powerful do you need to be to use this?
ghiculescu··on Optimizing Content for Agents
Why does the article say that’s useless?
ghiculescu··on Optimizing Content for Agents
Drawing inspiration from this... has anyone experimented with ways to make their API docs more readable by agents?
ghiculescu··on Ask HN: How to be alone?
You were together all your adult life - you’re not two people anymore, you’re cleaved as one.

And now that’s been severed. It will hurt.

New hobbies and getting your mind off things won’t cut it. If this was a physical injury you wouldn’t recommend someone start a new sport. Your soul is injured.

If the partnership is totally irreconcilable (or if it’s something more tragic, then my condolences) then you just need to accept that and take the time to heal. But is it irreconcilable?

Good luck.

ghiculescu··on iPhone 17e
I just bought a refurbished SE. It works great with newest iOS, Liquid Glass, etc. Do it!
ghiculescu··on Ireland rolls out basic income scheme for artists
Deeply ironic that those who claim to support socialism are so okay with taking from the poor to give to the rich.
ghiculescu··on Coding agents have replaced every framework I used
What happens when humans can’t fix a bug or build an important feature? That is a pretty common scenario, that doesn’t result in the doomsday you imply.
ghiculescu··on [dead]
Shows it’s just virtue signaling
ghiculescu··on If you're going to vibe code, why not do it in C?
Along the same lines, I am rewriting a React Native app into native Swift and Kotlin versions. I haven’t written any of the native code directly - it’s all vibed. It’s not C but there’s a lot of upside in letting Claude Code compile my wishes into native languages and skip the RN layer.
ghiculescu··on Pakistan says rooftop solar output to exceed grid demand in some hubs next year
In other words poor people are being forced to subsidize luxury beliefs.
ghiculescu··on Over-regulation is doubling the cost
How do any of the examples you gave keep larger business interests from exploiting and monopolizing markets?
ghiculescu··on Over-regulation is doubling the cost
If the accessibility and hygiene laws can be explained in plain language, why not just write them in plain language?

If labor laws can be automated by software why not just make them simpler?

If you can make a map to explain the permitting process why not just simplify the process?

If you made the regulations less complex and excessive you wouldn’t need to add another layer of bureaucracy to explain them.

ghiculescu··on Operating Margins
This is true. Banking is a great example of this.
ghiculescu··on Operating Margins
This is true. But there’s another side to it too, which is that if the industry was more profitable it would (probably) attract more investment, specifically in the form of new companies.
ghiculescu··on PSF has withdrawn $1.5M proposal to US Government grant program
Reading this you would think the US is the only country in the world. Why can’t any other country - one that’s more politically or ideologically aligned - fund the PSF? It seems odd the gripes about the US government and its ideologies as if there’s no other options.

(Not an American.)

ghiculescu··on Show HN: 18yo first iOS app: blocks distracting apps and unlocks with QR/barcode
I like the QR code idea a lot more than the physical devices you can buy for this. Cool concept.

Did Apple recently make an API for app blocking or something? There seems to have been an explosion in apps for this over the last few years.

ghiculescu··on Journalists turn in access badges, exit Pentagon rather than agreeing new rules
So he didn’t get dropped?
ghiculescu··on Potential issues in curl found using AI assisted tools
You can already pay to have all those issues go away.
ghiculescu··on iPhone dumbphone
Why not?
ghiculescu··on We hacked Burger King: How auth bypass led to drive-thru audio surveillance
If that’s the case, then why do companies run bug bounties?

I’m asking earnestly; it seems like if nobody actually cares about these gaps then there shouldn’t be an economic driver to find them, and yet (in many companies, but not Burger King) there is.

Is it all just cargo culting or are there cases where company vulnerabilities would be worth something?

ghiculescu··on We hacked Burger King: How auth bypass led to drive-thru audio surveillance
What if it was built in house?
ghiculescu··on Anthropic agrees to pay $1.5B to settle lawsuit with book authors
Okay but is that illegal?
ghiculescu··on Anthropic agrees to pay $1.5B to settle lawsuit with book authors
In all those countries what’s illegal is abuse of a monopoly, which is not what’s being discussed here. The parent cited Uber and Lyft when they first started. Nothing is illegal about startups undercutting established competitors.
ghiculescu··on A sunscreen scandal shocking Australia
When I got surfing lessons last summer, all the instructors agreed that sunscreen is pointless. Technically it works but you’re in Queensland, you’re either gonna sweat or get wet, and then it doesn’t.

They all swore by zinc, rashies, and wide brim surf hats. 60 year old Trevor who surfs every day and has never had a mole might just be lucky but somehow I doubt it.

ghiculescu··on A sunscreen scandal shocking Australia
It’s hard to argue the answer here is more regulation.
