Thing is, there's a great knowledge of the Android OS in there and the app works great when I use it. I think the OP blog post is correct 'Users don't care about the technologies or code.'
I thoroughly disagree with both these points.
Same in my country, I don't think Americans (or the American tech culture) realise how ubiquitous WhatsApp is in Europe and around the world.
Of course, there'll be ways around this but it would stop a lot of dodgy apps. Of course, this is a lot harder as it sounds as you'd need all Android apps that want access to sensitive APIs to interact with the Playstore API. But it's better than Android just imposing systemwide security changes that break a load of apps.
I'm always fascinated at the esteem chess is held in for some reason. I don't have a high rating (lichess rapid ~1900) but to me, improving at chess is the same as improving at everything else: practice.
