Sorry to be nosey but what was the cause for your marriage falling apart? Just interested, thanks
geoffbp··on The sunny side of firing someone
During a period where people at our company were being let go, one of the managers fainted at work (we assume after having to do it). I imagine it’s quiet a difficult thing to do.
geoffbp··on The sunny side of firing someone
Ah the “protected species”
geoffbp··on Why babies cry in the first three months, how to tell them apart, and what to do
Having a baby teaches you to put up with more shit. Literally and figuratively.

Oh also, whatever worked last week probably doesn’t work this week. :)

geoffbp··on How to Transfer a Software Project
This is relevant to the current situation at my workplace. The "not taking on too much" thing is hard to avoid in normal circumstances, now with less staff due to COVID it's more challenging
geoffbp··on Ask HN: What feature did you find after years of using macOS?
Install Alfred to replace spotlight, such a good utility.
geoffbp··on You've only added two lines – why did that take two days?
It's even harder then you toss support tickets into the mix, and if the team has other non project work.
geoffbp··on You've only added two lines – why did that take two days?
Sheesh, python 2 to 3 is definitely something worth taking the time to do.
geoffbp··on You've only added two lines – why did that take two days?
Yep. buy vs build was a big change for our company, VP made the decision to stop building but the culture is ingrained and difficult to change.
geoffbp··on Use Managed Services. Please
Managed services are great until they don't support something you need. For us this was postgres replication to non RDS, we tried bucardo however that didn't go well (this was a few years back, may be possible now)

What are they going to do if people do reviews through tor or any other decent anonymity tool?
geoffbp··on 100s of Monzo customers shut out of accounts in lockdown
As a Monzo customer this stuff is worrying, since all our money in the UK flows through it. If our joint account and pot were locked we would be in strife
