I enjoy mechanical keyboards, legal arguments, and books.
You can try to set boundaries like this, but typically the beliefs are so deeply held this isn’t possible. Sure the son could try to base the relationship totally on their shared loved of Ohio football, and make it clear he doesn’t want to discuss other things. But the chance the father doesn’t make snide comments or try to convince his son to buy gold is near zero. His beliefs are more important than anything, certainly more important than trivial things like boundaries set by loved ones.
It becomes exhausting to love someone when they are constantly choosing to be annoying or hateful. At a certain point it becomes a betrayal of your beliefs as well. If the father in this piece keeps bringing up bigoted views, it’s a betrayal of the author’s sister to keep a (negative) peace and not confront him on them.
If anything, the author’s fault is agreeing with his father too much, to the possible exclusion of the rest of his family. I doubt his sister and mother will let him hang out in the middle ground forever.
Frankly I’m shocked the conspiracy theorist paid up. Him then immediately doubling down and finally killing his marriage isn’t a shock.
I both admire and detest the son for sticking with his Dad, the other family members being done is probably a more healthy approach.
I somehow put a short on the design so my JLCPCB PCBA order is worthless. The short only appears when soldering the ESP32 down and I’ve tried three different boards with three different ESP32 C6 modules and it’s present in all of them.
I would have been much better off prototyping with LEGO parts first.
I’ve been (slowly) working on a similar project and it’s been easy to get it running on my desk hooked into power but much more difficult to elegantly frame the panel that can just live on a wall.
6 years isn’t necessarily a long time to develop and build a program like this from scratch. And deciding on every potential impact whether to start funding a deflector will cut even further into development time.
To do otherwise the executive has to pick and choose what to fund.
The topic usually gets raised every time we get close to a debt limit. If we truly broached the limit it’s possible the Biden and Obama administrations would have just ignored the limit since the consequences of the full faith and credit of the US failing are so dire and there’s a solid argument it’s the least bad option Constitutionally.
The age of modern quantum mechanics started in 1925. Heisenberg received the Nobel Prize for his 1927 work on the uncertainty principle in 1932 at the age of 31. 10 years later the Manhattan Project started.
There just weren’t that many older scientists with training in the field. Young PhDs were only a few years removed from the first discoveries that enabled nuclear physics to leap forward.
In other words, give us our $15 -20 Billion a year.
The rescinded the memo but not the freeze, apparently to try to dodge lawsuits? It’s confusing.
But most importantly, as the author ends, I will probably continue lowering my mental overhead and put in 1uF or 2.2uF capacitors as my decoupling caps from now
Not that it matters for the overall point but it’s an example of a brand being the generic name for a product category backfiring.
I agree the article would be better covering the prior association of Tim Cook with Trump.
Is there anything in the citations that is somehow wrong? If not, why pivot to a claim to authority rather than admit I provided your requested sources?
Incidentally the ADL has been catching a lot of flack for their statement. And they earlier explicitly condemned Musk earlier for…the exact events I cited above.
Beyond that, Musk hasn’t even denied it was a Nazi salute! You’d think he could clear it up, or at least attempt to. The fact he hasn’t denied it 24. Hours on speaks volumes. https://www.vanityfair.com/style/story/elon-musk-inauguratio...
I did so, here’s two sources: https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/11/15/media/elon-musk-antisemit...
https://www.theverge.com/2023/11/16/23964160/elon-musk-antis...
Beyond that, there are dozens of incidents where he will retweet blatantly obvious Great Replacement Theory, etc with “interesting”. And replatforming known neo-Nazis like Nick Fuentes.
He gave a Nazi salute. He intended it.
If anyone doubts that, try to do the exact same movement at work this week and attempt to explain to HR you were just showing your love by reaching out your hand from your heart.
He pretty clearly deliberately does a Nazi salute, twice.
In any case I’m pretty tired of people making excuses for him based on this claim, as if it’s some sort of get out of jail card only to be played when he faces criticism. I know plenty of people on the spectrum who aren’t acting like Elon.
That doesn’t go away quickly without good reason even with new orders.
An attack on a Anglophone Five Eyes NATO member is militarily close to a civil war and could rapidly lead to a civil war.
The service should return “this link offends Elon, repent lest ye be smited” as that is the true situation.
But it’s all academic anyways. The US military would eagerly lead a coup before willingly attacking the UK or Canada, particularly if non-conventional means are threatened.
Consider that nearly every officer has done several war games or exercises alongside UK or Canadian officers. This is true both of NCOs and senior leadership. Being friendly with their armed forces is institutional. It would be easier to convince the Marines to attack the Army than to convince them to attack their Canadian counterparts.
Ideally Apple will resurrect the Airport and make it easy to have privacy and security in the home. An Airport-HomePod combo could do a lot of neat AI things in-house / on-prem.
I realized I wasn’t hoping death on the people who gleefully refused to comply with basic pandemic presentation measures. That was a sort of sick dark humor to help with the fact they were exhibiting anti-social behavior but we live in a a non-just world and so they would go unpunished. The only punishment coming their way was from nature, and I didn’t celebrate it so much as not find it in myself to care.
On reflection I was just angry they were violating the social compact and wished somehow not to have them in my tribe. I think that’s very human, we don’t tolerate society members that endanger the society especially in extreme moments. We were at war, I was sacrificing to fight, and they were effectively treasonous in that fight.
The biggest help was realizing they lived in effectively an alternative world with alternative fake facts.
I’ve mostly overcome that anger now that I’m not actively in a pandemic but it’s really hard to feel good about people that willingly endangered my grandma. I don’t know how society would fare in a more serious pandemic and that scares me. My trust in society has been permanently broken.
But yeah mRNA is a game changer for quick vaccine response. In theory after sequencing the virus a new vaccine could be in testing days later.
