geekam··on Is “Hiring only the Best” a really Practical Advice?
My comment to the most voted answer:

I think that as an 'interviewee' things are not on your side to begin with. You are the underdog, no matter what the interviewer or the company which is interviewing claims. Esp. the new graduates are nervous. I think @Developer Art at least gave an alternate solution in his interview, most folks will find it easier to accept what interviewer said.

geekam··on Lower the Barrier for Scratching Open Source Itches
Apart from just matching devs with opesource projects, they should also build a system to help out newbies.

Isn't this what http://openhatch.org/ does?
geekam··on Why I'm The Best Programmer In The World
I agree. To me, "Can do" does not mean I am a$$licking. I maybe desperate to get a job but I definitely am more keen to find out how the hell it is done. "Can do" to me means, I am ready to learn because I want to.

We usually do a wget (http://lwn.net/Articles/262570/) like RMS. Surfing IS for iPad users. :)
geekam··on Why are you not using a SSD yet?

Probably, there should be a category in HN to most liked posted stuff - the goldmine.

geekam··on Why are you not using a SSD yet?
What about the shelf life of an SSD? I have also heard that your system needs some kind of TRIM support otherwise performance slowly degrades. what's the truth in that?
geekam··on Collision Detection for dummies
Are you one of the HN mods? I was wondering how to folks know what was published before etc. without a proper search.

>>A “full-stack programmer” who has created non-trivial applications.

Pardon my ignorance but:

What is a full-stack programmer?

How does one try to get to the levels of a full-stack programmer?

What exactly is a a non-trivial application? Examples?

How does one get started on these non-trivial applications?

geekam··on I know what you’re waiting for
Does this only apply to a profit making projects? A project or startup with business model? Or does this also apply to personal projects?
geekam··on Why no company that values their data should ever "Go Google"
Again, the idea is that a 'paying' customer should not have to deal with this.
geekam··on Ask HN: What are your side projects?
I am actually looking for a good new project. I have been learning Python/Django and I love it.

geekam··on Ask HN: Non-hacker doctor wanting to start a health startup. What should I know?
>>__whether doing such a thing would be feasible at my age (learning to code, etc), and whether my current educational background and training would be sufficient a contribution to a founding team__

Last time I checked, this field had no age bar. Honestly, you're most welcome to shake things up. If you have the vigor, which your post says you do, you can do it. Also, the support from communities like HN is amazing and worth giving a try.

HN also has a contractor list https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AlD_6iEb8Ed9dGs3clV...

geekam··on Why the AT&T deal can’t be good for T-Mobile consumers: Pay double and get half
I am a T-mobile customer and up until now I was very happy with their service. The only reason I do not have an iPhone is because I did not want to go to ATT. Now, I have no choice but to go with Verizon, and I will.

geekam··on Why Silicon Valley Immigrant Entrepreneurs Are Returning Home
Well put. But a lot of H1B workers also contribute to the economy here as said. It is the illegal immigration that makes things worse, not the legal ways of a small percentage of skilled workers.

Also, H1B workers contribute to Social security and medicare , taxes etc. with most of them not expecting or making use of it.

geekam··on Why Silicon Valley Immigrant Entrepreneurs Are Returning Home
There also one more thing to add here: H1B workers also contribute to Social Security and Medicare taxes and most of them do not get those back because they leave.

geekam··on Python now uses Mercurial
Yea, I do think that being written in Python was a big thing. It would be for me, if I were in their place. :)

geekam··on Python now uses Mercurial
But why are they using Mercurial and not Git? I want to what are the advantaged for them to choose Hg.
