gbriel··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
Not only should we be critical of how Israel wages this war, but we should also recognize the role of Hamas. Deliberate killing of non-combatants, civilian abductions, unguided rocket and mortar fire, use of human shields, perfidy and disguise, all war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Most of us here in the US don't have to worry about threats of terrorism like this. It doesn't excuse Israel's (many) war crimes but often we don't acknowledge the horror of Hamas on Israel and Palestinians when talking about this conflict.

gbriel··on U.S. appeals court upholds designation of Anthropic as supply chain risk
The statute defines a supply chain risk as “the risk that an adversary may sabotage, maliciously introduce unwanted function, or otherwise subvert” a covered system. It says adversary, not foreign adversary.

Even so, this designation had never previously been applied to a domestic company. The Pentagon applied it to Anthropic after a dispute over how it could use its AI. To me, the circumstances suggest the designation was used to punish Anthropic for refusing the Pentagon’s terms.

It was clearly retaliatory and because of that unlawful.

gbriel··on Google’s Project Suncatcher to put ML infrastructure in space
Imagine a heat pump circuit fails (solar rays? micrometeorite? random chance), I guess everything in that loop will just be dead forever? I guess you don't need to pay to dispose of it.
gbriel··on Goodbye Google
Thanks for living your values. I might not fully agree but I appreciate people whose convictions are genuine and altruistic.

Sometimes people use the "Yet you participate in society" meme as a shield for blatant hypocrisy, like a Marxist-Leninist Twitch streamer who lives in a multi-million Hollywood mansion, drives a Porsche and wears thousand dollar pants.

3) Also tell people about how you fixed things that were actually implemented by the previous mayor's administration.

Charisma goes a long way too.

gbriel··on Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents"
Just look at the sourcing and you'll see it's mostly laundered propaganda. For example, Cotton’s letter requests an investigation and names Singham’s network, then the House letter requests a briefing on foreign influence and activism. And the House letter cites the Bitcoin Policy Institute and Power the Future, as well as a Washington Free Beacon article.

While there may be real foreign influence to delay our AI infrastructure, I would not believe anything this administration says.

Ken Klippenstein is not a journalist and has no accountability.

gbriel··on Registration without a phone number on Signal will use zero-knowledge proofs
Non profit doesn't necessitate open sourcing their whole product. If you don't like that, don't donate. As long as they are transparent about their decisions that is the only obligation they have.
gbriel··on Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash
Google doesn't have a good coding model. This is a HUGE problem. They don't need "larger more expensive models", they need a good coding model because it's a competitive advantage.
gbriel··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
If you’re a U.S. citizen: CBP cannot deny you entry to the United States merely because you refuse to unlock the phone. If you’re a non-citizen seeking admission: refusal is much riskier.

The important wrinkle is that CBP’s published policy expressly guarantees that a person being admitted as a U.S. citizen won’t be denied entry solely because CBP couldn’t inspect the device. It doesn’t give lawful permanent resident (green card holders) that same explicit statement. Instead, it says refusal by a “foreign national” can be considered in an admissibility determination.

gbriel··on Physicists Solve a Muon Mystery. Now, Old Results Don't Add Up
Reality is probabilistic, not branching. Before measurement, multiple outcomes are possible; after collapse, only one becomes real.
gbriel··on The memory shortage is causing a repricing of consumer electronics
Regulation is dead under this current US administration (unless you pay a bribe). It's so weird this is where we are right now and most of the tech leadership has to play along even though it's technically illegal?
gbriel··on At least 25 Flock cameras have been destroyed in five states since April 2025
So Americans (plural) is true, since there are > 1 people smashing cameras. (:

I would love to use AI to re-write article headlines into non-ragebait slop.

gbriel··on Computer Use is 45x more expensive than structured APIs
This is a good solution, instead of everyone blowing tokens on repeating the same computer use task, come up with a way to share the workflows. I think you'd need to make sure there aren't workflows shared that extract user information (passwords).
gbriel··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (April 2026)
Music player, organizer, discovery tool that will load history and subscriptions from streaming services and discogs, last.fm etc and allow you to query it with AI.

A work in progress.

gbriel··on British Columbia is permanently adopting daylight time
My dream is everyone has a personal clock based on their GPS location and solar noon is always when the sun is highest overhead wherever they are. Go to sleep and wake up based on this clock and use it for nothing else.
gbriel··on British Columbia is permanently adopting daylight time
Start school later. I understand people also have jobs, start those jobs later. I understand people have expectations about when stores open. They can figure it out that stores open when the sun comes up. If they need to plan they can ask when sunrise is.
gbriel··on Amazon's Ring and Google's Nest reveal the severity of U.S. surveillance state
- Jan 6, the day the votes are certified by Congress.

- The goal was interrupting the peaceful transfer of presidential power, a foundational element of U.S. constitutional governance.

- Force was used to disrupt lawful governmental authority.

- Part of a larger conspiracy to use alternate slates of electors to dispute the election and send it back to state legistatures (see Eastman memo and resulting lawsuits).

gbriel··on Amazon's Ring and Google's Nest reveal the severity of U.S. surveillance state
Reminder: Glen Greenwald doesn’t think Jan 6 was an insurrection and now aligns with people like Tim Pool and Alex Jones.
gbriel··on Amazon's Ring and Google's Nest reveal the severity of U.S. surveillance state
His ideology is “America bad”, which leads to some alignment with foreign influence and arguably leads to him spreading propaganda
gbriel··on AI is killing B2B SaaS
You're assuming that code in the future will need to be unvibed. Either the code will be good, or AI will be good enough to unvibe it. That might be awhile in the future but it will happen.
gbriel··on Xcode 26.3 – Developers can leverage coding agents directly in Xcode
"custom versions of Claude"
gbriel··on The Codex App
Majority of devs > 60% in the valley use MacOS for development. Apple hardware is best in class. It's unix like. Cost isn't an issue. Macbooks look cool. Many reasons.
gbriel··on xAI joins SpaceX
As long as they stay below Van Allen belts and deal with weaker magnetic shielding in sun synchronous orbit (high latitudes).

I would say they probably something a little beefier than consumer hardware and just deal with lots of failures and bit flips.

But cooling is a bigger issue probably?

gbriel··on Roam 50GB is now Roam 100GB
Look at Elon's X replies
gbriel··on Roam 50GB is now Roam 100GB
The vast majority of the international community, including the United Nations, the United States, and the European Union, recognizes Crimea as a sovereign part of Ukraine. :)
gbriel··on Palantir could be the most overvalued company that ever existed
The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.
gbriel··on High-income job losses are cooling housing demand
Doesn't it seem ingenuine how everything good is socialism and everything bad is communism? Also if socialism can't compete with capitalism then it's doomed. Socialism must make capitalism illegal in order to succeed and I don't want to be in a place where capitalism is illegal. And "market socialism" is not socialism either.
gbriel··on John Giannandrea to retire from Apple
Everyone is struggling to create AI tools. And just because you don't approve of how they spend time to make their UI look "fancy", doesn't really mean much. You are not a normal user/customer.
gbriel··on High-income job losses are cooling housing demand
Rent control is not a great solution long term since it reduces the incentive to build more housing which is the only real fix. It ends up making the problem worse. I could see in times of economic downturns, a temporary rent control that automatically expires to help people figure out their situation short term (moving is expensive).
