gautamsomani··on Ask HN: What are some of the best books you’ve read about memory and the brain?
From what I heard here on HackerNews itself, that book is not 100% accurate. In fact some said that there were lot of errors in that book. So anyone planning to read it, I suggest keep verifying things to get your facts right. Will be a painful process, but better to learn the right things than have wrong info for something as critical as sleep.
gautamsomani··on Ask HN: What are some books or courses which had high ROI on your career?
Best investment ever. I make it a point to do 1 live course every week, even if its a repetition (read:revision) of an already done older course. Have been doing this since last 2 years, even though its a hefty cost on my pocket, the learning is great.
gautamsomani··on Ask HN: What are your views on IT certification?
I have 19 years of experience. Started as a Network Technician, then Network Admin, then Linux Desktop Admin, Linux Admin, DevOps Engineer and now an SRE since last 5 years. Did I studied for any certification? Yes. To learn things. Did I gave the exams? No, never, nor will I.

Knowledge and troubleshooting is what matters. You may have lot of work experience to show but without knowledge it doesn't matter. Degrees don't matter either.

gautamsomani··on Ask HN: Should countries have strategic semiconductor reserves?
This is a very good idea.
gautamsomani··on Movie extras worry they'll be replaced by AI. Hollywood is doing body scans
The ongoing actor's strike in Hollywood should raise this point too, I think. That is the only chance the extras have.
gautamsomani··on The greatest war movie ever – and the ones I can't bear
We were Soldiers is also a very realistic movie. I would recommend it over Saving Private Ryan a hundred times!

gautamsomani··on Signal Says It Will Exit India Rather Than Compromise Its Encryption
It's not a thing now, but it used to be a great deal to thing around 2006-2008. 1000 sms packs used to be sold for 36 rupee and they sold like hotcakes.

Of course, old times. Not used anymore.

gautamsomani··on Ask HN: Why are we not using debuggers more?
Nice link. Thanks for sharing. I took a quick glance and saw that most of them are for embedded systems. Apart from gdb, do you know anything more friendly for Unix and C/C++ programs?
gautamsomani··on Billions of firefly light up a forest at night (long expsoure stills)
Updating the title. Thanks for correction.
gautamsomani··on Ask HN: What are the best ways you've seen for turning money into happiness?
Hired a personal trainer for 3 months. Best part of my life. He was the best in the city, and he made me push my limits like anything. I achieved physical capabilities and mental toughness I never imagined I could. Gave me immense confidence in myself.

Planning to hire a seasoned developer to help me speed up learning C and C++ at an in depth level. Am a Linux admin, and don't find time to spend time on C/C++. So thinking of spending money on that too.

Noted! Thanks.
gautamsomani··on Chess or Coding – what do I teach my kid first?
How drawing?
gautamsomani··on Chess or Coding – what do I teach my kid first?
Learning Chess when I was 9 years old (1994) helped my way of thinking. It taught me to think of multiple possibilities, think afar, and to think of what could I do if things don't go the way I want them to go. Hence my belief in it.
gautamsomani··on Chess or Coding – what do I teach my kid first?
What they may like may not be the best for them, having said that let me add that I don't force things upon then for long, but may be for enough to help them build an effective thinking framework.
