ganelonhb··on Kcc, a C compiler built solo with an LLM on $100/month boot Linux kernel
I disagree, it’s incredibly impressive that this task can be automated. I think your hang up is really about not liking AI, which is totally fine. But this is still a very impressive application of the technology regardless
ganelonhb··on OpenAI scraps release of Astra 6.1 model over safety issues
Why would a company announce that their product is so good they aren’t releasing it? It’s marketing their other models at best, and at worst they’re trying to trick politicians into regulating the f-ck out of AI and make them the primary trustees à la cell carrier pseudo-monopolies.
ganelonhb··on Vibecoding isn't a crime How Distribute Your App on Linux after Flathub refusal
By what metric? Some arbitrary feeling about how you think vibe coders are?
ganelonhb··on Kcc, a C compiler built solo with an LLM on $100/month boot Linux kernel
All knowledge is distilled from prior knowledge. I don’t think it matters what the author thinks or doesn’t think. The world is different than the one you knew now.
ganelonhb··on Several vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel
Yes, naturally. It’s a brave new world.
ganelonhb··on OpenAI scraps release of Astra 6.1 model over safety issues
Yawn. Anthropic already pulled this trick.
ganelonhb··on Vibecoding isn't a crime How Distribute Your App on Linux after Flathub refusal
I mean, yeah. I don’t even use flatpak. I’m really arguing against flatpak on these grounds; that I don’t believe it to be the package manager’s job to police which packages I’m allowed to see on some arbitrary ideological grounds.
ganelonhb··on Vibecoding isn't a crime How Distribute Your App on Linux after Flathub refusal
the question becomes, is it the end user’s decision to decide what packages they download/use or is it the repository/package manager’s responsibility to show end users which apps are allowed to be used or not.

I understand the objections to vibe coding, but for those of us who don’t care how a good tool was built (when it actually is good), this just forces us away from your favorite platform. Like it or not, this is the present and these AI tools are available. People will use them.

That said I think it’s utterly ridiculous that this article was written using AI.

ganelonhb··on Ubuntu 26.10 completes transition to Rust-based coreutils
Am I the only one cynical enough to feel physical pain when I see “blazing fast” in a README? It’s like a dog whistle for “hey everybody, I’m kinda annoying!”
ganelonhb··on Ubuntu 26.10 completes transition to Rust-based coreutils
Their strategy is basically adopt now, hey now we’re forced to fix it! And it’s disgusting. Frankly, I don’t know how any enterprise users on Ubuntu will be able to forgive this. Well, many businesses are on RHEL and not Ubuntu anyways…
ganelonhb··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
That’s a better price than I thought it would be, but still quite high. I will consider buying it someday, but today it’s a luxury I can’t afford…
ganelonhb··on Omarchy Is a Power Grab
Perhaps, the difference is that I’m not implying that anyone who disagrees with me is a nazi.
ganelonhb··on Omarchy Is a Power Grab
There is a big difference in the implications behind my post and OP. OP seems to be implying that anybody who doesn’t raise hell about Omarchy is a nazi. I’m just saying it’s easier to “vote with your CPU.” If a particular configuration of instructions make you think you’re a nazi, just don’t run them.

Here’s a non-political example. I don’t run Duckstation because the developer frequently makes it abundantly clear that he hates Linux users and in recent years has done his best to pretty much ban its use on my distro of choice, Arch (btw). It’s a personal decision that other people just don’t need to know about. Feel free to disagree with me on this nuance, but I think it’s actually more “fascistic” to attempt to forcibly compel people to not run software on ideological grounds.

Tl;dr vote with your cpu. If enough people do it, the software will die. Pearl clutching does nothing but raise buzz around the software that you hate

ganelonhb··on Omarchy Is a Power Grab
I have a really cool idea if you’re the type to complain about software you don’t like. You can try this thing called “continuing to not run that software that upsets you.” I do it all the time! It’s quite liberating to not care about nor try to control others!
ganelonhb··on I resigned from Anthropic today
I resigned from reading this post today.
ganelonhb··on Kimi K3 (2.8T) at 1 token/s on a MacBook Pro, streamed from four SSDs
I think the point is that it’s running at all…
ganelonhb··on The Uninvited Guest Who Crashed Our Family Vacation: My Mom's AI Chatbot
People need to just learn to love their aging parents. Someday they will miss all their silly, annoying, but well-meaning and sweet quirks.

People are gonna lose so much money on their upcoming IPO lol
ganelonhb··on Kiki – a tiny homepage construction kit with a small footprint
Really? I can read it just fine. It’s probably your monitor brightness settings, which is still a design flaw on their part regardless
ganelonhb··on What's in a GGUF, besides the weights – and what's still missing?

ganelonhb··on Richard Dawkins concludes AI is conscious, even if it doesn't know it
Is he joking to prove a point?
ganelonhb··on Epic Games to cut more than 1k jobs as Fortnite usage falls
I agree, you’re only entitled to what you have the power to protect. Unfortunately they have a lot of power up there
ganelonhb··on Epic Games to cut more than 1k jobs as Fortnite usage falls
This will be an unpopular take but I agree with it mostly. Always remember that you are not entitled to a job just because you need it to live. Always make sure you stay sharp and prepared for the worst case
ganelonhb··on TUI Studio – visual terminal UI design tool
Reddit moment!
ganelonhb··on TUI Studio – visual terminal UI design tool
The one thing these always miss is image protocols. Do you plan to support terminal image protocols like sixel, kitty image protocol, etc.?

ganelonhb··on Realfood.gov includes a Grok search box
This appears to be vibecoded slop. I feel like I can instantly tell when a website is slop… I’m interested to know if others have noticed this ability start to crop up as these vibe codes sites appear on HN
