gailees··on Rise of the AI Hacker
Dave here. This is my first blog post I’ve published since the hackathon days.

Would love to hear what yall think!

gailees··on GPT-Migrate converts repos from one lang/framework to another
I can’t believe the author doesn’t allow conversion to JavaScript

It’s the most popular language for heavens sakes. Developers really need to stop bringing their religion into open source.

gailees··on GPT-Migrate converts repos from one lang/framework to another
Please do. I’m curious to see what this looks like in production repos.

gailees··on GPT-Migrate converts repos from one lang/framework to another
Seems like this actually works by generating tests and continuing to try different things until the tests run successfully on both the source and the target codebase.
gailees··on GPT-Migrate converts repos from one lang/framework to another
Did it work? Link the repo.
gailees··on GPT-Migrate converts repos from one lang/framework to another
Did you try it yet? Curious how far it could get.
gailees··on GPT-Migrate converts repos from one lang/framework to another
Has anyone tried it yet? Would be crazy if it worked.

gailees··on Awning Raises $9.3M to Help Individuals Invest in Single Family Homes
wow. thats dope.

and can the rental properties you purchase on awning ever be converted into your own residence or is this strictly for buying RE that will have a yield for you?

gailees··on Awning Raises $9.3M to Help Individuals Invest in Single Family Homes
How’s this different than Opendoor?
gailees··on Show HN: Napkin – Build back-end functions in the browser
Wow is this just going to replace basic backend engineers forever? Just think how many people y’all are putting out of a job with this.
gailees··on How I raised a $5.1M seed as a first-time, female, solo founder for a biotech co
Honestly, it’s crazy. We back incredible women who end up spending at least four times fundraising than similarly qualified men, consistently get offered lower valuations, and end up raising less capital. It’s fucked up — the three solo female founders we backed are some of the best performers in our fund I so that makes me wonder how many incredible women aren’t getting funded at all who would also crush if they had the resources.
gailees··on Scaling YC
They said the same thing to me about hackathons when we did 300, then 500, then 1000, then 2000. And I still think hackathons could scale more and benefit from doing so.

But it seems as if no one is bold enough to do so. YC is.

This quote from Sama echoes through my head constantly: “The central learning of my career so far has been that you can and should scale up things that are working. The power of scale, and the emergent behavior that sometimes comes from it, is tremendous. I think about the potential energy of future scale for every investment I make. Most people seem terrible at this, so it’s another bug you can exploit.”

gailees··on Electric vehicles close to ‘tipping point’ of mass adoption
I never thought I would own another vehicle, then I saw Nimbus: http://nimbus.green

It's a tiny car that fits in a motorcycle parking spot, charges via a wall outlet, has AC, and is 15x safer than a motorcyle or scooter. Just preordered one.

I think not needing a supercharger will change everything.

gailees··on Ask HN: Who's looking for a co-founder?
The fastest way to know if someone is the right cofounder is to 1. Work with them in a high pressure / time boxed environment 2. Live with them

This is the perfect environment to do both.

gailees··on Ask HN: Who's looking for a co-founder?
If you’re looking for a cofounder, tons of top engineers starting their next companies are converging on Taiwan to do this ten week residency together: https://www.facebook.com/davefontenot/posts/1015820666915435...
gailees··on I spent eleven years working on this Line Rider track
Seeing David’s passion for line rider over the years has been nothing short of inspiring. He’s a mathematical genius who brings that to play across everything from music to line rider to software. Can’t wait to see what they build next!
gailees··on Show HN: Citizenbase
Oh wow I just got my absentee ballot here in Taiwan and I’m so conflicted. Does anyone know if I should trust this to help me choose who to vote for?
gailees··on Level 3 Global Outage
The beginning of WWIII probably looks something like this.
gailees··on Show HN: Hack Club Bank – A Bank for Student Hackers
Even as a college hackathon organizer, bank accounts were a huge hassle that almost sank our event. This is incredible.

Every student should have the opportunity to go to a hackathon.

Infrastructure like this is crucial to increasing access.
