Just wanted to let you know the site is down. Give an "Oops ... for some reason, SiteApps could not fetch the URL <> Does it even exist? Please try again." error message.
g0atbutt··on Google Set to Release iOS Maps App Tonight
They actually had about a year left on their license. Source -> http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-501465_162-57520590-501465/apple...

Yes it does. You can upload from your photo album.
g0atbutt··on Half-Life 2 Performance: Mac vs PC
To be fair, this was written two years ago before Apple updated some of their graphic drivers. It's much better now than when this article was written, but it's still noticeably behind Windows.
g0atbutt··on Heroku is down
As a newbie, I've really enjoyed deploying on Heroku. However these outages really terrify me. Is there an easy way to host a redundant version of your app outside of Heroku?
g0atbutt··on Pocket team's tips for aspiring Android developers: It’s not really terrifying.
I have to disagree. Marco recently laid out his (very rationale) reasons on why it took so long for Instapaper to hit Android. I encourage you to give it a read - http://www.marco.org/2012/06/06/instapaper-for-android.

Choice quote from the article: "Simply put, Instapaper needs to be on popular reading devices. That category now includes at least three 7” Android tablets, probably with more to come. I realized last winter that I needed to address this demand, but I couldn’t do it myself. "

g0atbutt··on Ask HN: Good places to find startup announcements?
Hi guys, Paul Hontz here. I had a bit of a setback that's forced me to take some time off from TSF, but I'm finally back in the saddle. Things are going to start picking up again next week. Thanks for all of your support!
g0atbutt··on How I Wrote and Self-Published a Book: Step by Step
Would you mind explaining why you decided to go with the Kindle Store instead of just hosting it yourself? Does the Kindle Store restrict you from doing that? Would you mind sharing some of your stats?

Thanks for sharing your insight!

g0atbutt··on Time Machine for OSX Lion 10.7 using Debian 6.0 Squeeze
It appears to be down. Here's the Google Cache http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:a7H_n-e...
g0atbutt··on Why your startup should never release numbers
Hi HN, I'm Paul Hontz (the guy who wrote the article that was linked to) and I'd like to correct some core things that Kapil got wrong.

Kapil's first mistake is that he misses the context of my post and insinuates that I'm always for releasing numbers. That is not the case. The post he linked to was titled "Make your Startup ridiculously easy to write about. Put Together a Great Press Pack". The meat of the article was saying "Sharing numbers with journalists can be a very good way to demonstrate traction and get them interested in you".

It doesn't matter if you have an amazing idea (or product) if no one uses it.

The numbers game works indirectly as well. If I haven't heard of a startup before, but I know a lot of people use it, I'm more inclined to reach out with an interview request.

All that said, with the limited time I've spent with Kapil (in an interview), I believe he's a good guy, he just missed the mark on this post.

g0atbutt··on Mark Zuckerberg to speak at Startup School 2011
Solid list of speakers, thanks for putting this together YC team! Is there a Google Doc of everyone that is planning on attending?
g0atbutt··on The Untold Story of Chegg PT 1
My friends in college swear by Chegg. You've done a tremendous job building loyal customers. Looking forward to hearing the rest of this story. Could you drop me an email (I didn't see any contact info in your profile) paul@thestartupfoundry.com? I'd love to bounce something off of you.
g0atbutt··on Ask HN: Who are hackers who also like sports?
I've found that a lot of my hacker friends are huge fans of fantasy leagues. Being able to track all that data (stats) and put together a coherent team is very challenging. It's the mixture of hard numbers ("Dirk is averaging 27.7 points a game but I really need to win the 'steals' category to edge out a victory) and gut feelings ("Although he has been on a week long cold streak") that draws in nerds like myself.
g0atbutt··on What I Learned from Watching Notch Code
Can you go into more detail about how you set everything up? This sounds immensely useful.
g0atbutt··on TouchPad 16GB on Sale for $99
That link is sold out but I was able to purchase one from OfficeMax (online) at the discounted price.
g0atbutt··on Solution Zero – Don’t Over Think Your Startup
I think that's a harsh take on the article. Jason just shared from his personal experience.
g0atbutt··on We Spent $1,138 on Facebook in 6 Days: Numbers and Lessons Learned
Site is down. Does anyone have a mirror?
g0atbutt··on Dropbox Cofounder & CTO Arash Ferdowsi responds to yesterday's bug
There has been a lot of comments bashing Arash's response. His post certainly wasn't personal (and should have had a more apologetic tone), but beyond that what would you've liked to see him communicate? He seemed to do a good job explaining what happened and outlined a plan moving forward.

I'm not trying to defend him but I am genuinely curious what other people think his response was missing.

g0atbutt··on Ask HN: Should I form a Board of Advisers?
It depends on your business. Can you go into more detail?

Typically advisors get around .5%.

g0atbutt··on Hacker News and drive by traffic: How to make the most of your startups launch
Thanks for the feedback guynamedloren. I'm still experimenting with what kind of articles work the best for TSF, so I sincerely appreciate your thoughts.

All the best.

g0atbutt··on Hacker News and drive by traffic: How to make the most of your startups launch
I don't view startups trying to get on Hacker News as a bad thing. Especially if the startup is providing information on how they solved a problem (Like I mentioned in the article about "Stadium Pitches").
g0atbutt··on news:yc (iPhone HN client) finally accepted into the App Store
Reading the default HN website from my iPhone sucks (small voting arrows, table layout doesn't degrade gracefully to a small screen, etc.) I'm glad to see that you stepped up to the plate and solved a problem that many of us have experienced. I'm more than happy to shoot you $5 for your solution.

I do UI/UX work and would love to point out a few quirks I've noticed if you're interested. You can find my email in my profile.

By the way, releasing the source code was a classy move!

g0atbutt··on Ask HN: How to get pitched by startups
I see a lot of startups on a day to day basis (I run The Startup Foundry) and would be happy to pass along some info your way.

What are you looking for specifically?

g0atbutt··on Show HN: my new app (this time, months of work)!
Just so you have a heads up, it's an iTunes link.
g0atbutt··on Co-founder of Disqus explains why they raised a $10 million round.
Thanks for the advice guynamedloren. I'm still a newbie at interviewing but I'm working hard to get better at it. I really appreciate your feedback and I'll look to incorporate it moving forward. All the best.
g0atbutt··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancers? (May 2011)
Your link is dead.
g0atbutt··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancers? (May 2011)
SEEKING FREELANCER. Remote worker preferable.

I'm looking for a mobile web developer to help build some basic cross platform (iOS & Android) apps. Bonus points if you have experience with Titanium or Phonegap (to wrap the web apps in a native format so they can be downloaded from the AppStore).

Email me your portfolio at paul@thestartupfoundry.com with your hourly rate and I'll get right back to you.

g0atbutt··on Startup HN: Simple to read, easy to write reviews
I would improve the typography on your app. It doesn't flow well and readability is incredibly important for a review site.

If you need a kick in the right direction with font stacks, checkout http://unitinteractive.com/blog/2008/06/26/better-css-font-s... . They have some pretty good advice.

Good luck!

g0atbutt··on Alexis Ohanian, reddit's co-founder, has returned as an advisor
Good for him. Alexis is a genuinely nice guy. When I launched The Startup Foundry, Alexis emailed me two days after I launched (when I still didnt have much traction) and offered his support. I've had the privilege to interview him in a couple different occasions since then and he's always been incredibly kind.

He's a real standup guy.
