fuzzy2··on Gas utilities used tobacco tactics to avoid gas stove regulations
That's what ovens are for though?
fuzzy2··on Tesla blamed drivers for failures of parts it long knew were defective
It has VW software, so… yeah. No doubt, all the ID.s drive great. Their usability otherwise is not good however. Especially the capacitive “buttons” on the steering wheel are atrocious.
fuzzy2··on Edmunds EV Charging Test: How fast does each EV charge?
Too bad they only have these high-spec cars. Many small and/or cheaper EVs barely support more than 100 KW charging.
fuzzy2··on Edmunds EV Charging Test: How fast does each EV charge?
> measuring how fast you can fill up a car in miles/hour

But that’s exactly what my EV’s app shows. (-:

fuzzy2··on Web Components Eliminate JavaScript Framework Lock-In
Then… use Angular Elements?

Using innerHTML isn’t specific to Web Components in any way. It was and is a quick & dirty way to dynamically insert HTML.

fuzzy2··on Darling: Run macOS Software on Linux
No, unfortunately I could not get Darling to compile back then and gave up. (I don't have that printer anymore either.)
fuzzy2··on Darling: Run macOS Software on Linux
The Windows driver wouldn't work with CUPS. Or is there something like ndiswrapper for printer drivers?
fuzzy2··on Darling: Run macOS Software on Linux
Last I tried Darling, my goal was to make a proprietary printer driver run on Linux. It was available for Windows and macOS (CUPS). So that’s one use case.
fuzzy2··on .NET Blazor
TypeLite used to offer something similar, but it's somewhat dead nowadays.

OpenAPI client generators are probably what's popular today.

fuzzy2··on HTML Web Components
My take is: As explained in the article, user-avatar does absolutely nothing. If anything, it could only enhance the existing markup (with behavior), but never replace it. It’s… semantic markup, if you will.

Baloney if you ask me.

fuzzy2··on Reducing patch postings to Linux-kernel
I always wondered how managing patches/patchsets using mail could scale. Now we know: It does not.

I believe this calls not for a separate mailing list but a proper solution, whatever that might be.

fuzzy2··on Cooking and bird safety
Increasingly? It's been there for decades.

This "article" is specifically about overheating teflon-coated cookware, and nothing else. (Sure hope your shoes are not on fire!)

fuzzy2··on High-level emulator for iPhone OS apps
Yes, Microsoft is incredibly (read: ridiculously) focused on backwards-compatibility. It is Windows’ USP. It’s also a huge driver in making Windows suck so much.

Apple appears to be rather focused on not keeping legacy stuff around too long. Good on them.

fuzzy2··on Windows 11 adds native support for RAR, 7-Zip, Tar and other archive formats
Oh, but that isn’t the problem. It’s that the old ZIP support issues 1-byte reads exclusively.

fuzzy2··on Should you use a Lambda Monolith, a.k.a. Lambdalith, for your API?
And suddenly you have to manage an entire Linux server. (-:
fuzzy2··on DaScript: Fast and Versatile Scripting Language
Since it's from Gaijin Entertainment, it's probably used in the War Thunder video game.
fuzzy2··on Atomic Rocket
From the linked article:

> The English system of measures will be as dead as the dodo within our lifetimes.

haha oh my

fuzzy2··on Mitigating the Hetzner/Linode XMPP.ru MitM interception incident
This is not what the attackers did however. From the original article (not this one):

> Traffic dump on port 5222, the connection is hijacked on application level (L7), the server receives replaced ClientHello message from the client.

fuzzy2··on Show HN: Modern Moodle learning platform open-source alternative
I think this is more about most alternatives not being FOSS.
fuzzy2··on Google-hosted malvertising leads to fake Keepass site that looks genuine
uBlock Origin is cool and all, but what does it have to do with IDN lookalike attacks? It certainly did not block this one for me.
fuzzy2··on Organic Maps: An open-source maps app that doesn't suck

fuzzy2··on RabbitMQ vs. Kafka – An Architect’s Dilemma (Part 1)
I didn’t mean to imply that Jetstream is slow. It’s just that I did my benchmarks without it. On a local PC, with 10 KiB messages sent (synchronously) in a loop, I could transfer 3.2 GiB over 5 seconds with 0.2 nanoseconds latency. Performing the same test with RabbitMQ, I got even better throughput out of the box, but way worse latency.

Those numbers are for server 2.9.6 and .NET client 1.0.8.

fuzzy2··on RabbitMQ vs. Kafka – An Architect’s Dilemma (Part 1)
NATS is something else, but it's awesome. It has awesome throughput and latency out of the box (without Jetstream), while using little resources.

I'd recommend considering it, especially as an alternative to RabbitMQ.

fuzzy2··on Subdomain.center – discover all subdomains for a domain
They would not have been reverse proxied to the Docker container without the hostname.
fuzzy2··on Subdomain.center – discover all subdomains for a domain
The Certificate Transparency Log is very important. I recently spun up a service with HTTPS certs by Let's Encrypt. By coincidence I was watching the logs. Within just 80 seconds of the certificate being issued I could see the first automated "attacks".

If you get a certificate, be ready for the consequences.

fuzzy2··on Microsoft Edge is starting to annoy me big time
It was clear from day 1 that Chromium Edge is a Trojan horse from Microsoft.

But then, many of my colleagues use it, put up with tabloid-style New Tab pages and don’t use an ad blocker, so there’s that.

fuzzy2··on Organic Maps
I agree with what you’re saying. I just find myself lulled by OSM’s ridiculously high quality in the places I usually go. And I suspect many others feel the same.
fuzzy2··on Organic Maps
IIRC, that was over a year ago near Oberstdorf, at the border between Austria and Germany. You could not get an on-foot route from the Kanzelwand Bergstation[1] to Fellhorn[2]. The hiking path follows the border closely, crossing it multiple times. That location seems to work fine now.

I’ll make sure to report it in the future!

fuzzy2··on Organic Maps
Organic Maps is super awesome. The routing feature is really good, too. It even works on Apple CarPlay! There are some glitches to be aware of though: Routing across region borders is often broken.

Also, a warning about OSM in general: Do not blindly trust it. Map data can be very out of date in some places, especially on remote-ish hiking trails.

fuzzy2··on Bad software destroyed my doctor's memory
I would be tremendously surprised if this were not possible. I have seen many programs at various doctors’ offices and all of them could do this.

I suspect that instead the doctor was not properly taught how to operate the software. Of course this could also mean the UX is bad, yes. I’m not convinced yet however.
