fundad··on Court orders restart of all US offshore wind power construction
I agree. People have agency even MAGA. Nothing was hidden from them and they are smug about what they are getting with Republicans in power.
fundad··on Court orders restart of all US offshore wind power construction
Almost half of the voting public intentionaly acted to sabotage the country. Let's stop treating them with kid gloves, they are anti-American and should never be forgiven.

It's fine because revenue is not important. Elon Musk has made that clear openly and repeatedly.

fundad··on Ask HN: How can we solve the loneliness epidemic?
You don't sound like an asshole because you aren't saying bad things about the people who have the least.

It's up to you, you can just, to yourself, write down the words you'll use to write down that you'll ignore them to become more comfortable with your boundaries.

Personally I don't think handing out cash is helpful so it's not about charity it's my advice to pre-plan how you'll respond to be more comfortable than you are in reaction to these situations.

fundad··on Ask HN: How can we solve the loneliness epidemic?
I found it uncomfortable as a kid when I saw how my parents handled begging: ignoring it. I remember one time my father saying "that's ok". And I either say "no, sorry" or ignore.

I've heard of kids from cities being given money so they always have something to give a mugger instead of looking like you're holding out, I don't go that far but I remember it to keep perspective.

I recently made an effort to carry cash with me so I can leave tips in cash, still working on that. Would you be open to keeping singles on you to give? You can even give max of one per excursion and then decline or ignore the rest or any combination but maybe having that as a plan can help you feel comfortable. Yes you're training yourself and it's because you deserve the benefits of training.

As for non-bums hello is good, also fist bumps and nodding upwards; that stuff is cool AF and make people so damn happy.

> You can't take one tragic mistake or bad-apple cop and draw conclusions about the fate of the country from it.

Do you have any citations for that? Jonathon Ross's entire chain of command including Sec of DHS and the President has justified the killing in multiple public statements. There has not been any official admission that it was a mistake, tragic nor description of Jonathan Ross as a "bad" apple or anything.

fundad··on US Job Openings Decline to Lowest Level in More Than a Year
The people who I work with who support the current administration don't really value a good economy.

They actually are smug about a worsening standard of living. What makes them happy is "tough talk" on immigration, to them the brutality against suspected undocumented immigrants is a good deterrent.

It's not surprising but it's important to understand how important the brutality is and how unimportant economic growth is. It helps that they Silicon Valley tech workers who are already rich.

fundad··on The Junior Hiring Crisis
I entered the job market in late 2000. There was no reason to hire a junior engineer when every hiring manager and senior engineer knew 10 friends who recently lost their jobs. I found work on less desirable projects and yes it affected my career trajectory and it sucked. Starting out has always sucked for most people.
fundad··on Hemp ban hidden inside government shutdown bill
Jobs stop mattering when they get power too. It all makes a lot more sense when you realize that party doesn't want economic growth.
fundad··on No science, no startups: The innovation engine we're switching off
The people who should read this article and won't are actually an anti-growth movement. The silicon valley bros I work with are lapping up the sabotage because they want a lower standard of living in America and less science and innovation because they are already comfortable enough. Their sites are set only on the short-term gains of anti-Muslim and anti-abortion sentiment and "though talk" on immigration. Results are not that important. They claim that there would be enough funding if universities funded it with their endowments.

The anti-government sentiment is frankly anti-American. Even the ones who are naturalized don't know the basics about how ballots are validated ("If my wife vote with a provisional ballot, couldn't just anybody?"). I thought there was some testing for naturalization but it must be easy to cheat.

Anyone who convinced themselves that "economic anxiety" was actually a thing should talk to any MAGA or "centrists" about the present state of the economy.

fundad··on No science, no startups: The innovation engine we're switching off
The utter lack of self-awareness needed to post something like this now should humiliate them, of course it's a throwaway account.
fundad··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
You don't see how the President could sensibly spin this as a way to send troops into Chicago.
fundad··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
Is it bad to be a threat to democracy? Some people hold a point of view that there is something other than democracy serves their agenda better. I don't agree but it's actually a popular point of view. Are we supposed to be so afraid to point that out that we censor ourselves?

fundad··on Six months into tariffs, businesses have no idea how to price anything
I question the president’s cognitive state if he openly stated there would be some “pain” and then when the statistics show he was correct, he attacks the BLA director and claims the economy is booming.

The president and his defenders are playing us when they appear to want a growing economy. They don’t.

fundad··on Apple 2016 Stand Was Never About One Case
I was thinking the same thing. What if making gold trophies isn't enough and DOJ wants a backdoor? The appearance of values can't be that important anymore because we are witnessing decisions by the company and CEO in his personal capacity.
fundad··on Job Listing Site Highlighting H-1B Positions So Americans Can Apply

fundad··on Ultra-processed foods make up more than 60% of us kids' diets
This podcast had an excellent discussion of how “ultraprocessed” means whatever authors want. It seems like people who pay for expensive maple syrup, oils, tallow and butter are put on some pedestal and everyone else lives under the cloud of “ultra” something.
