fullstop··on Hackers Got Inside a Flock Camera
I was working with a Telit 5G modem recently, and it runs OpenWrt. I was flabbergasted when I saw that.

https://www.telit.com/devices/fe990bxx/ - "High-performance quad-core CPU and Linux OpenWRT OS, ideal for router development without an external CPU"

Plenty of cellular modems run Linux.

Man, ours is just '\0'.
fullstop··on Hackers Got Inside a Flock Camera
That's why I was asking if it was an older model initially.
fullstop··on Hackers Got Inside a Flock Camera
In a perfect world, yes, but this is a for-profit company and there's almost zero repercussion for doing it half-assed. They'd have to pay someone to implement it, and deal with the overhead and complexity.

Now they are in a position where they can sell new models with enhanced encryption and more features.

fullstop··on Hackers Got Inside a Flock Camera
Why? Does Flock really care about encryption? It checks off a box for their sales team, even if it's done poorly.

You can achieve 50MiB/s if that's all that you're doing. I've worked with some DSPs (TI's DaVinci line) where some operations would abort if DDR was overwhelmed.

For example, passing a frame of video (YUV) into the peripheral which can resize the overall image, would fail if the system was busy with other DMA transfers. You could attempt to resize again, but there were no guarantee that it would complete successfully. Your options are to reduce overall DDR utilization or drop frames. In an application like Flock's, dropping frames is likely something they need to avoid.

The system in question is doing similar tasks, and I don't think that what I'm suggesting is out of the question.

Is this an older model? I could see them turning off or using weak encryption on media if the hardware couldn't keep up with the amount of data they were writing.

I poked around in the boot partition. The kernel is ancient!

And even if a plugin is disabled, the code can still be called.

I'm in the same boat. Using Rust within Yocto is tricky since the whole point of Yocto is that you have a system which can build reproducible images. I can't have Cargo going out and fetching crates during the build process, they need to be recipes and artifacts which are accurately versioned and identified.

I have at least 100 hours in the game, and I have to disagree with you. There's a surprising amount of variety in the creatures and the world generation.

I spend a lot of time building / designing my base. In that aspect, the enjoyment of the game is limited only by my creativity. I've definitely got $25 worth of entertainment from it. I will say, though, it is more fun if you have others to join your squad.

It's vastly better, imo, than Starfield. That was a game which really let me down -- I wanted Skyrim in Space, but I got 1,000 planets with the same cookie cutter quests on each. Or a team member saying something like "I can't believe we're the first ones to set foot on this temple" when there is a randomly generated outpost plopped down right next door.

It's $23.99 on Steam right now.

Surely they are better than Google in this regard.
fullstop··on Quake Shareware, a CD-ROM just a little too full
My cdrom drive also had an audio jack on it, so you could plug headphones directly into that if you wanted to have just CD audio and not the sounds coming from the PC.
fullstop··on Quake Shareware, a CD-ROM just a little too full
Yes, the game just played it as a regular CD. In fact, if you put a different disc in the drive it would play the tracks from there instead. There were also console commands to change the track, stop the music, loop, or even reload the disc information if you needed to refresh it after swapping CDs.
fullstop··on Quake Shareware, a CD-ROM just a little too full
Ha, I remember buying the shareware disk and unlocking every game on there. Plus you got the soundtrack which was pretty cool.
fullstop··on Google kills Earth AI generator after one day
I got Bard to execute a fork bomb, I think, when it was first launched. I noticed that it was evaluating the flow of a shell script incorrectly and it allowed execution, then refused to respond for 20 or 30 minutes.

Now, for some users, sharing a YouTube link adds some sort of tracking which then asks people who open the link to be "friends" with the person who shared it. Who thinks that this is a good idea, and why isn't it opt-in?

It's hard to take Google seriously these days.

fullstop··on Donate to GrapheneOS
I added a ratgdo to my garage door opener and use that with Home Assistant (and wireguard to my phone) instead of MyQ, so that wouldn't be a problem.

It's probably worth doing, but I have about three and a half years of data / setup on my phone and I'd have to wipe that all out. I wouldn't permanently lose data, but I did spend a good amount of time setting up my home screen, etc. It's a big leap! :-)

Is your battery life better?

fullstop··on Donate to GrapheneOS
I have a Pixel 7 Pro and I've been considering reflashing with GrapheneOS. I bought a Garmin watch which does tap-to-pay to deal with the loss of that feature.

How is the camera on GrapheneOS compared to the stock Pixel 10? Do your banking apps work without playing cat-and-mouse games?

Even if it was 595 billion, that sounds like their problem.

fullstop··on OnePlus halts operations in USA and Europe
I had a OnePlus 3. It was fantastic for the time, but the limited radio bands really hampers it now. The screen is falling off of it and the battery is not what it was, but it's a decade old.

I used it for about 4 years, then my oldest, and then my youngest. Such a great little piece of hardware.

Expedition 33 ran well, at least on Xbox Series X. It runs like dogshit on a Steam Deck, though.
fullstop··on The deadly rise of giant trucks and SUVs
There's a few traffic circles / roundabouts near me now. I love them -- they are safer and greatly reduce traffic if I'm headed out that way. The number of people who blame them for serious accidents is nuts, even if the accident is several miles away from the circle.
fullstop··on The deadly rise of giant trucks and SUVs
There's kids who go around on ebikes in my neighborhood, and it's only a matter of time until one of them is hit. I don't mind kids on bikes, and encourage it. I do, however, encourage them to stop at stop signs and to actually look for traffic at intersections, and that's something that these kids are not doing.

To be fair, most cars go too fast in residential areas. I drive like a grandma in them and there's a good chance that someone is up my ass and annoyed that I'm not exceeding the speed limit.

I have two, both adults now. The first one, if she woke up early and I was still asleep, would politely come over and say that she was hungry.

The second one, though, she was a scavenger. I woke up to her crunching on something. She was eating pistachios -- shell and all!
