frontfor··on More than half of adults in U.S. say they lack basic statistical understanding
The article reads like work of a crackpot. There’s a reason why maths is done the way it is, and intimidating people is definitely not the motivation.
frontfor··on A Tome of Forbidden Technologies
Indeed 44.1 kHz mathematically and perfectly represents sound waves within the human hearing range (by Shannon’s sampling theorem), so you’re limited by the recording and playback devices. The author failed to demonstrate an understanding of how digital sampling works and perpetuates this common misunderstanding despite the wealth of information available in 2026.
frontfor··on UAE to leave OPEC
It’s well known that some OPEC members cheat nonetheless.
frontfor··on Austin’s surge of new housing construction drove down rents
Agreed. It’s a classic fallacy to compare rent vs mortgage on a numbers to numbers basis. It’s classic example of not accounting for the total cost of ownership.
frontfor··on Case study: Creative math – How AI fakes proofs
Agreed. Asking the AI to do a calculation isn’t the same as asking it to “prove” a mathematical statement in the usual meaning.
frontfor··on Electrolysis can solve one of our biggest contamination problems
To clarify, it's not "Africa and Asia". Only India, South Africa, and Zimbabwe are still using DDT actively.
frontfor··on US Administration halted largest Offshore Wind project in the U.S.
> CapEx break even is estimated 7-10 years

I don’t think this is unique to wind farms.

frontfor··on Socialist ends by market means: A history
State control over production means instead of letting the free market decide what’s worth producing, the central planners believe they know better than the market (and the 2nd, 3rd order effects) what to produce and how to allocate and price resources and production. It very much removes or diminishes the “market”.
frontfor··on Blender 5.0
Agreed. You haven’t really won until it stops becoming noteworthy and “oh look X is using Blender!!”

Nobody talks about how Linux dominates the server space anymore. Nobody talks about how “git is winning” or getting “battle tested”. These are mundane and banal facts.

I don’t believe the same has happened to Blender yet.

frontfor··on AI isn't replacing jobs. AI spending is
Exactly my thoughts. A free market tends towards specialization which makes the market more efficient and therefore more competitive. As specialization increases it becomes more critical that one chooses and specializes their career early on. But this is unfair to young people who often have no idea what to do. Hence luck plays an increasing role, which is again the opposite of fairness.
frontfor··on I'm drowning in AI features I never asked for and I hate it
Same here. I’ve recently switched back to Fedora after a long time on Windows. There are so much less distractions on Fedora and I really hope that it stays this way forever.
frontfor··on Key IOCs for Pegasus and Predator Spyware Removed with iOS 26 Update
When did Apple “sue and jail ppl” for “try to look at things properly”? I’m pretty sure Apple isn’t legally allowed to jail people.
frontfor··on This map is not upside down
I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt the same. There are so many edge cases to the incredibly broad and outdated classification of the world in terms of “north” (rich) and “south” (poor), the terms have lost all meaning. They don’t account for the fact that countries rise and fall. It speaks to the human penchant for short term black and white thinking.
frontfor··on Credit scores drop at fastest pace since the Great Recession
Why do you think you’re able to time the market? What if it keeps going up? Even if you’re right that the market eventually drops, you’ll still need to be right in timing your re-entry. It’s not as easy as it sounds.
frontfor··on Credit scores drop at fastest pace since the Great Recession
How do you know that?
frontfor··on 996
When 996 makes being able to afford a house easier, many people will be compelled to do it.
frontfor··on Google can keep its Chrome browser but will be barred from exclusive contracts
It doesn’t matter. From the general population point of view, whoever writes the article is the “reporter”, and “they” don’t provide the links. You can argue otherwise and it won’t change the optics.
frontfor··on We already live in social credit, we just don't call it that
The horrible life in Soviet Union was due to horrible governmental policies, which are not unique to authoritarian governments. Liberal governments have their fair share of bad policies.
frontfor··on Michigan Supreme Court: Unrestricted phone searches violate Fourth Amendment
It’s not about cynical: it’s a purely risk/reward calculation. If you talk to the police and nothing happened, you don’t gain anything. If you’re found guilty though, it turns into a massive inconvenience. There’s no positive ROI.
frontfor··on Zenobia Pay – A mission to build an alternative to high-fee card networks
It might be one motivation, doesn’t mean it’s a good one as per the original comment if consumers don’t care.
frontfor··on Zenobia Pay – A mission to build an alternative to high-fee card networks
Still, most consumers don’t care or notice it (we are not most consumers), so this doesn’t refute the original argument.
frontfor··on US reportedly forcing TSMC to buy 49% stake in Intel to secure tariff relief
Manufacture domestically will result in price increases, which again hits the bottom harder than some of us here. Is this what we want?
frontfor··on Ask HN: What trick of the trade took you too long to learn?
Some might object to this analogy, but I view life like investing in an index fund. It’s a diversified bet across many aspects of life and many projects (akin to how an index fund is a diversified bet across companies, sectors, geographies). Many of the bets will fail (much like many companies in the market will crash or delist), but some will deliver so much return they carry the rest, but you don’t know which ones and when ahead of time. It will be volatile, but if you persist and survive in the long run the expected outcome tends upwards.
frontfor··on The North Korean fake IT worker problem is ubiquitous
Here’s one example, although I don’t know if this is a North Korean.

frontfor··on Physicists start to pin down how stars forge heavy atoms
I think the analogy here is that it’s indeed easier to get any smaller piece, but it’s harder to get a specific smaller piece you want.
frontfor··on Private sector lost 33k jobs, badly missing expectations of 100k increase
You could argue household debt is just another form of rent, where you “rent” capital from the wealthy in exchange for paying interest on a monthly basis. Just because you don’t pay a rent directly named as such doesn’t change the substance of it.
frontfor··on ICEBlock, an app for anonymously reporting ICE sightings, goes viral
> Interacting with cops will never make your day better, so it's only sensible to avoid them if you can.

This is a very nice way to put it. In investing terms, the benefits are limited but the risks are severe. With enough interactions you’re more likely to have experienced the downside.

frontfor··on Is mathematics mostly chaos or mostly order?
I like to think of axioms as "created" while the consequences (i.e. theorems) of said axioms are "discovered". You can't create logic consequences (conclusions) given a set of axioms, but you can certainly create the axioms (premises).
frontfor··on Vera C. Rubin Observatory first images
It’s a reflecting telescope, not a camera with a glass lens.
frontfor··on U.S. bombs Iranian nuclear sites
60% enrichment level is significantly higher than what’s required for peaceful purposes. To say that it’s not weapons grade is just disingenuous.
