freshfey··on Ask HN: Can anyone recommend some fulfillment alternatives to Amazon?
I'm working with http://www.direct-outbound.com/ to fulfill orders for Action Tea. It works fairly well, although the shipping prices are a bit tough, but that depends on the volume and the type of deal you negotiate.

I'm paying 1.60 USD per fulfilment item + shipping. And the whole operation is in the US, while I'm sitting in Switzerland and shipping worldwide, without touching the product. I'm doing low-ish numbers, but do know a lot of eCommerce experts who are doing the exact same thing.

I hope that helps!

freshfey··on Scientists caught off-guard by record temperatures linked to climate change
As an end-consumer, probably not that much you can do to impact it (besides being carbon conscious and living accordingly), but as a creator/maker there are tons of things you can do.

The problem with media in my case is, that it leaves me paralyzed towards action more than it motivates me.

OT (sorry): cconcepts, is there any way to reach you via email? I have a question about one of your posts, but you don't have an email address in your profile

freshfey··on We have an epidemic of bad posture
The article is a great starting point, but exercise in itself is not enough.

If you've worked for multiple years in a (seated) office setting, chances are you have tight muscles. Muscle tissue then gets glued together and stuff like forward rolled shoulders happens.

Now you go to a physical therapist with your neck or shoulder pain and he/she recommends you physical therapy. The problem is just, the area is too tight to react to the right kind of stimulus, so the trick is to first massage the area and then fix it with the right exercises.

Simple tools like a lacrosse ball (5 bucks) or a foam roller (10-20ish bucks) can work wonders IF used regularly and in the right fashion.

I've written about one part the issue here, called "text neck" https://bitehype.com/text-neck/ - I've also compiled some of these lessons into a free email course, where I dive into the topic a bit deeper: https://www.dailybitsof.com/courses/fix-your-posture

I hope that helps - open to any questions in that area (my expertise comes from years of injury/self experimentation, bunch of interviews with doctors, physical therapists and massage therapists as well as visits to sports clinics. Oh and of course interest).

freshfey··on Introducing the 2nd Generation Boosted Board
Haven't tried the Boosted Board (yet) but I've started riding a Penny board when I was 26, and all my life I was horrible at skateboarding or snowboarding (I was always an inline skater). The carving potential definitely helps and it takes getting used to, but nowadays I can use it to ride at an airport or in the city - give it a try :)
freshfey··on From web dev to 3D: Learning 3D modeling
I think VR might be able to change this and open more doors for people here.
freshfey··on Airbus thinks it has found a way to alleviate jet lag
I'm currently using a combination of Jetlag Rooster (http://www.jetlagrooster.com/), fasting, drinking lots of water and eating the first meal after arrival with their time (if you arrive at 9am, you'd eat breakfast there) - this has worked very good for both me and multiple people I've recommended it to.

I usually fast between 12-24 hours, depending on the traveling time, drink lots and it has worked for going both to the East and coming back from it. I wrote about it in more detail here: http://bitehype.com/how-to-successfully-avoid-and-hack-a-jet...

freshfey··on Bad posture might kill your productivity. Here's how to fix it
Unfortunately, yes. I've talked to some companies in the past but they are slow to react, unless they have "being active" as part of their culture, it's super difficult to teach companies on the importance of sitting, posture, movement and health in general.
freshfey··on Soon You'll Hate Group Chat as Much as You Hate E-mail
And before email, people expected you to be available between 9am and 5pm via phone. I think you just have to clearly communicate that the group chat, in your case, doesn't benefit the working relationship. So it has nothing to do with group chat per se, but more with how you communicate to your freelancing clients, no?
freshfey··on The Strange But Effective Way I Stick to Hard Goals
It's a similar concept that Tim Ferriss talked about in 4 Hour Chef. You'd (with a friend for accountability) put money in an escrow account for an organization you absolutely despise (political, religious, etc). If you fail on keeping your promise (in this case going to the gym) the money would be released. I think he calls it the Stickk method (there is even a site dedicated to it: http://www.stickk.com/)
freshfey··on Software Eats Software Development as Andreessen Invests $10M in App Outsourcer
"Within two weeks of its launch in late July, Gigster already had $1 million in sales booked."

Can someone walk me through how this is possible? As in, what does a company like Gigster focus on to reach sales so quickly?

freshfey··on Why Is Stoicism Having a Cultural Moment?
I'd start with "Letters from a Stoic" by Seneca, then read "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius. If you're looking for a modern interpretation of these thoughts check out "The Obstacle is the Way" by Ryan Holiday
freshfey··on Zappos’ experiment to end the office workplace
No, I think people just hate change. We're always scared of the unknown, hence why historically humans have preferred dictatorships vs. anarchy.
freshfey··on Links between coffee and health
I love tea and coffee, albeit tea more which is why I created a tea blend (disclaimer: I run actiontea.com).

Seeing studies and science like this makes me wonder though. People do know that coffee and tea is healthy for them, so why use it still in advertisment?

Smoking is bad for people, yet people do not need convincing to continue consumption.

Is it an additional argument for you when you're buying coffee or tea, that it's healthy for you?

freshfey··on Tell HN: Entrepreneurs, make sure you are getting guaranteed wins in life
I like this a lot. I think though the word fitness has so many connotations, and many of them negative, that some people might be put off by the idea of it.

So as an alternative, I'd suggest: Move every day. This can be:

- putting up a basketball hoop and throwing a few hoops

- walking for 45-60min.

- go climb with your significant other

- play with your children (no consoles, actual physical moving)

- do a yoga class

All of these things might not sound like fitness but give you a great balance, when done every day.

freshfey··on Ask HN: Where did you meet your significant other?
I think a book store like Barnes & Noble might be a good idea. Another good idea is a sports event, be it a Crossfit training or a bootcamp where you can go for drinks afterwards. Good luck! :)
freshfey··on Ask HN: What startups were refused from YC but became successful?
Sahil Lavingia, founder of Gumroad, applied to YC with his iPhone App Dayta
freshfey··on Building an Empire with a Single Brick: Meet Patrick McKenzie
Patrick has to be one of the nicest people in our community. Whenever I shot him an email, even with the worst questions, he always took the time to respond. And please keep in mind that he used to consult big companies at that time and charge good money for it, but he always helped the community like this.

Thank you Patrick and all the best with Starfighter.

freshfey··on Apple Poaching Auto Engineers to Build Battery Division
So is it illegal for companies to approach people about different job opportunities? Or is it the tactics used by Apple that give A123 the right to sue them?
freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
Ah yeah, sorry, the 1024 was definitely on the high side for me, but I thought you were referring to the 400
freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
You do skip breakfast every day essentially.
freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
Definitely lost some body fat at the right places and even gained some mass, but not in crazy amounts.
freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
I did do it 6 days per week, although the 7th was naturally a fasting day because I went to bed later and got up later. So you could say almost every day. It gets very easy with time.
freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
http://fitness.mercola.com/sites/fitness/archive/2012/07/27/... (has also studies at the bottom)

and this is also an interesting experiment, where it actually drops with fasting:

http://www.precisionnutrition.com/intermittent-fasting/chapt...

But the hypothesis is that the body uses the testosterone more efficiently

freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
For a 23 year old, I wouldn't consider 4xx high, to be honest.
freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
Sure, what are you looking for specifically?
freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
Yeah again, if you only want to go after research, you might run in circles. Meditation has helped me and a lot of people I know, a lot. Whether it will work for you in your circumstances is a different question. But then: The study won't be much help, because you might have different variables in your life.
freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
in terms of timing you mean? I fasted for 14 hours and simply delayed/skipped breakfast, still eating 3 meals at around 2400 calories.
freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
I can only answer with my personal experience here: During the intermittent fasting time (age 25), where I went from from 6xx to 1024ng/dl, I didn't gain significant amount of muscle, although I was working out with heavy (free) weights, 3x per week.
freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
take a look at the book "4 Hour Body" by Tim Ferriss, there in the chapter Improving Sex, sub-chapter: "Sex Machine I: Adventures in Tripling Testosterone"

I think in there the author, Tim Ferriss aged 34(?), mentions how he went from 2xx to 6xx in a very short amount of time, mainly by changing his nutrition.

freshfey··on Testosterone is the drug of the future
As someone who went from 430 ng/dl to 1024 ng/dl naturally in about two years time (from age 23 to 25) the only thing I can say is don't jump to too many conclusions here.

- Your testosterone should be naturally high if you're below 30 (and male)

- If not, something is wrong and you need to fix it (start with blood work, check your diet, move)

- If you testosterone is in the normal ranges (blood work recommends between 600 and 1200, which is ridiculous), you'll feel good 80-90% of the time

- the 10-20% are probably psychological worries that you might have, start meditating

- I didn't get huge muscles or less body fat with more testosterone (huge myth that I thought would change for me)

- TRT is used heavily in pro-sports (look for UFC fighters and bodybuilders, they have the most experience, since a lot of them are doing it)

- TRT is a problem if you keep going for too long, because your body just doesn't produce testosterone as it used to, because it expects it from the outside, so below 35 or rather below 40 year olds: don't sign up for this too quickly.

- Cold showers/baths do work, but probably not for increasing your testosterone, still, do it from time to time :)

- Intermittent Fasting helps immensely with boosting your testosterone naturally.

I can provide more info or details/specifics if wanted/needed.
