freedude··on Open Letter of Justice Thomas's clerks vouching for his integrity [pdf]
When I read this quote I cannot help but think of the millions received from Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine by the Bidens.
freedude··on Ask HN: Is there a legal way to do a reverse license plate lookup?
The only thing that really shows he is a menace is him threatening to shoot you. The other stuff is mostly cultural bias and sketchy behavior and worth little in your argument.

The same thing you would do when someone threatens your life and the safety and security of your family. Defend yourself and your family.

It doesn't mean I want to but I was placed in the position of responsibility to love and protect my spouse and children, not to rollover and die at the first sign of trouble.

Updated: "Today the school district reversed its decision and will now allow the student and the flag back into the school:

From Vanguard’s founding we have proudly supported our Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the ordered liberty that all Americans have enjoyed for almost 250 years. The Vanguard School recognizes the historical significance of the Gadsden flag and its place in history. This incident is an occasion for us to reaffirm our deep commitment to a classical education in support of these American principles.

At this time, the Vanguard School Board and the District have informed the student’s family that he may attend school with the Gadsden flag patch visible on his backpack."

"Climate science should be less political, while climate policies should be more scientific. Scientists should openly address uncertainties and exaggerations in their predictions of global warming, while politicians should dispassionately count the real costs as well as the imagined benefits of their policy measures"

freedude··on Open Letter of Justice Thomas's clerks vouching for his integrity [pdf]
"Justice Thomas has never strayed from those beginnings. A bust of his grandfather—himself raised by a grandmother born into slavery—watches over his office. It is an ever-present reminder that he is no ordinary Justice. Come the first Monday in October, the Justice, born into poverty few can fathom and educated in a segregated Savannah school room, will take the bench and begin his thirty- third year on the U.S. Supreme Court. He will ask a question most haven’t considered. And he will cast his votes and write opinions based on his mind alone. We are proud to have been his clerks and to remain his friends, and we unequivocally reject attacks on his integrity, his character, or his ethics."

"leaders from the BRICS bloc -- representing Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- meeting in South Africa over three days last week invited four Muslim states and two others to join the bloc, while keeping total silence over the racist and Islamist massacre by heavily armed Arab militias of black African civilians being carried out in West Darfur in Sudan over the preceding weeks."

"Modern slavery includes forced labor, child labor, forced marriage, and human trafficking."

"When we speak of slavery in the Muslim world," the journalist Hugh Fitzgerald related, "we think of Mauritania (with 600,000 slaves)... Niger (600,000 slaves), Mali (200,000 slaves), and Libya (where slave markets have opened in nine sites during the last two years). Most of us assume that in Saudi Arabia, slavery is no longer tolerated. But most of us are wrong."

Until 2019 and apparently longer, slave markets could be found on Instagram"

freedude··on Hundreds of thousands trafficked to work as online scammers in SE Asia, says UN
Slavery is an old, detestable practice. There are more slaves worldwide today than in any other time in history. Welcome to modern civilization. Contemplate that the next time you use something made in China or another third world country. This is a common practice.

Well that is sad and ironic at the same time. Lawlessness will destroy this country.
freedude··on Ask HN: Is there a legal way to do a reverse license plate lookup?
Why would public information be illegal? Doesn't the guy use the roads you pay taxes for? When someone threatens you call the cops if you're unarmed.
freedude··on YouTube Hits Orf Again, as Censorship Grows Silent but Deadly
"This week, Orf discovered the video had been re-classified as problematic by a new “human reviewer,” who declared it in violation for “harmful or dangerous acts” that “may endanger participants.” Potential problems, the reviewer determined, included “glorification, recruitment, or graphic portrayal of dangerous organizations,” by which I can only presume they mean former Bernie voters like Orf and myself whose political homelessness apparently constitutes a threat."

If you can't beat YouTube you must join them. Remember that at the poles former Bernie voters.

freedude··on Most cancer screenings don’t extend life, study finds
My wife's grandpa was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He was 82 and had been a natural food store owner for over 30 years. He said the side effects to the treatment and the surgery was too great for him to endure and would impede his quality of life. He passed away 4 years later from pneumonia unrelated to the cancer. The cancer wasn't easy to deal with in those four years. He wasn't cut up and on chemo or radiation either. I agree with him in that too much can be "done"

It would be interesting to compare the India sub-continent to Asia (China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Hong Kong, etc...) along with Europe and South and Central America. I think folks would be enlightened as to where the issues are.

freedude··on Cash payments above €3000 to be outlawed in Netherlands
So with the "convenience" of the free bank transaction what do you give up? There is no free lunch. Somebody pays for that "convenience". My guess is you pay with a loss of privacy from the government and the corporations that run the program for the government. Why would they do that? What is in it for them? Are they your public servant or have you become a governmental pawn?
