freedrull··on Cool Open Source Games you should contribute to
tl;dr: Doom clones, RTS' and games with penguins in them.

Too bad this game wasn't mentioned, it has cute graphics, interesting gameplay, and no penguins: http://joyridelabs.de/game/

freedrull··on Ray, a Ruby game library
Even better would be a Love2D-like platform.
freedrull··on Ray, a Ruby game library
What's the speed like? Looks like its built on top of some opengl C code, so I imagine its alright.
freedrull··on Rails 3.1 HackFest
Its at the top of the blog page for me... http://weblog.rubyonrails.org/
freedrull··on Rails 3.1 HackFest
Are there any IRL hackfests for the Seattle area planned?
freedrull··on Github is Your New Resume
Its really only true for startups at this point. I've had plenty of interviews with the interviewer scratching their head when I mention github.
freedrull··on The Chinese Way of Hacking
Another article hopping on the cyberwar 2011 bandwagon. [1]

Even NPR ran a similar story that was just as sensationalist and vague.

freedrull··on The most useful GCC options and extensions
-fmudflap always interested me, but I never seem to remember it when I'm actually confronting a hard to debug pointer issue.
freedrull··on The most useful GCC options and extensions
A similar article about C code coverage tools would be great.
freedrull··on China is Planting Digital Bombs Throughout the U.S. Power Grid
I've had enough of these fear mongering "cyber war" stories. No one seems to know whether the hackers are part of the Chinese government or not, yet new bullshit articles like this keep popping up, riding on the excuse of "we can't rule out the possibility the Chinese government isn't behind the attacks".
freedrull··on Cool, but obscure Unix tools
Libcaca and its various programs:

http://caca.zoy.org/wiki/libcaca

Also, there is neercs, a terminal multiplexer that uses libcaca: http://caca.zoy.org/wiki/neercs

freedrull··on I Heart SASS, But HAML, I'm Just Not That In To You
Is it just me or is this the 100th "SASS rules but HAML drools" article this week? This one doesn't even point out the biggest weakness of HAML, that it is terrible at inline markup.
freedrull··on Fukushima Fallout Reaches San Francisco
How is it known the radiation is from Fukushima?
freedrull··on Solarized - Color scheme for vim, mutt, terminal emulators
Does the font on the website look extremely blurry for anyone else...?
freedrull··on Github, the future of book publishing?
My schoolmates and I wrote a collaborative paper using git back in college. It was great for critical feedback, sometimes we would delete each other's entire paragraphs in a single commit.
freedrull··on Poll: How much do you average per freelancing gig?
Don't you ask for milestone payments?
freedrull··on My Extravagant Zsh Prompt
Why oh why do you need your battery life displayed in your prompt? There are plenty of other places to display it.
freedrull··on Don't distract new programmers with OOP
Several posts have mentioned that objects are merely metaphors, and isn't that exactly what you are doing here?
freedrull··on Don't distract new programmers with OOP
I think that a language for beginners should be as paradigm agnostic as possible. Lua does not force OO or functional programming upon the user. And unlike Ruby, there aren't a bunch of list-like datatypes like lists, arrays, and hash tables to keep track of. There is just the table datatype which takes care of all of those.
freedrull··on Ruby4Kids: Another initiative to teach kids with Ruby
In case you missed it, there was more discussion about Ruby4Kids here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2158231
freedrull··on Pixelfari: a pixely, 8-bitty version of Safari from Neven Mrgan
Why don't you just use Dillo. :P
freedrull··on Crazy 3D browsing experience works in Safari and some versions of Chrome
In only spins on the x-axis in my version of chrome... 9.0.597.98

Is it supposed to rotate on the z-axis?

freedrull··on How deep does C go?
This seems like a valid question to me. Who cares if its vague? The more to explain to the person asking the question...
freedrull··on C++ in Coders at Work
Good point, glib offers a ton of useful functions: http://library.gnome.org/devel/glib/2.6/glib-String-Utility-...

As you can see, its no std::string, but it can still save you some time.

freedrull··on C++ in Coders at Work
There are subsets of C++ that I just find too useful to pass up, particularly STL data structures like strings and vectors. Why shouldn't I use them? I'm just going to have to keep using them until I "blow my whole leg off" as they say.
freedrull··on New Electronic Scrabble Game
I just saw a commercial for this game, and I got interested when I started thinking about how the architecture might work. How might the tiles communicate between each other? They all have to tell each other what letter is on the other tiles, then one of them (or all of them?) decides if its a valid word.
freedrull··on How one man tracked down Anonymous—and paid a heavy price
Is this article supposed to make sense?
freedrull··on IRC notifications via SSH and libnotify
I used to do this with dzen, via:

http://dzen.geekmode.org/dwiki/doku.php?id=dzen:irssi-notify

Then I started using a combination of perl scripts to detect when my screen session was detached, and if I got a new message while my screen session was detached to send an SMS to my phone through email. These days however, I'm satisfied with simply logging all my notifications in a separate split irssi window and checking them when I feel like it.

freedrull··on The Shapes of CSS
Anyone else see lines between the triangles in the pentagon, using Chrome?
freedrull··on A comparison of text-based browsers
I've always preferred elinks with its support for colors, but I'll have to check out w3m and retawq.
