freebs··on Show HN: Balls – Game I’ve made while I was learning Swift
Exactly. If I were the author I'd come up with a more unique name.
freebs··on I Hope Twitter Goes Away
He also clearly doesn't understand how to use lists to create his own communities. I have lists for devs, friends, funnies, etc. With a little effort you can have these communities on tap in columns. Hey, if you're lazy, you can even subscribe to other's lists and put them in a column too.

Twitter is not hard for conversation, so long as you can put together concise thoughts. I'll agree it does become a pain when you need to explain a lot, but that's why we have links and a multitude of platforms to record our thoughts.

freebs··on Atom: Editor window startup is slow
Not only the start up time, it seems to hog memory and bog down my Macbook Air (4GB) after using it for awhile. I'm not entirely sure if it was the length of time I had Atom open or the size of the project. I usually have Chrome running with a small Vagrant box. After a few hours it was unbearably slow to even switch between open files.

I closed Atom and my memory pressure dropped considerably. Installed Brackets and the pressure is still low even with Chrome and a box running yet.

This probably isn't an issue for people with 8+ GB of ram though, unless it actually has a memory leak.

"Free forever or pay for extra features"

It's always annoying when you signup for free stuff and then a year later they remove free completely, basically a bait and switch.

freebs··on Show HN: A virtual whiteboard for working or teaching remotely
Making it easier to zoom would be nice. Maybe with scrolling?
freebs··on My iOS Indie-Game Numbers
How man SaaS companies have monthly fees with free apps? Then, after you login, the features that you have paid for are available. I can think of plenty.
freebs··on My iOS Indie-Game Numbers
I wonder what would happen if app games were run like desktop MMORPGs, where there is a monthly fee. That fee could even be paid via a site, also freeing the app of Apple's cut.
freebs··on Negative SEO Does Exist
Please don't forget that many companies may go through multiple SEO/marketing agencies before they find a team that knows what they are doing. Just because someone is cleaning it up doesn't mean they made the mess.
freebs··on Why we don't sell ads (2012)
And they could also charge $2 or $3 and people would still gladly pay.
freebs··on Report: 44% of Twitter Accounts Have Never Sent a Tweet
Having conversations with people and not just sending out a single tweet has helped me a little bit.
freebs··on What I Would Do If I Ran Tarsnap
What if the payments were taken out of an account automatically and you could load up a reserve with money. This would allow for calculations on your usage:money without it being a major factor on immediate loss of service.
freebs··on Burnout
As someone that has always found many things interesting, boiling it down to only a few things is very hard. Over the past year I've been slowly doing the same. I'm down to spending time with my family, web dev, marketing, and gaming. Choosing between web dev and marketing will be one of the hardest choices I make yet.
freebs··on Editorially is shutting down
You should try https://draftin.com/. For what little writing I've done, it always seemed to work well. Right from the beginning it worked well with exporting and publishing, which were my main concerns.
freebs··on Rapgenius.com Traffic and Demographic Statistics
They're on page 7 for their brand name. Christmas probably had little to do with that drop.

freebs··on President Obama calls on every American to learn code
"encouraging curiosity" this.

I've tried to talk to younger kids in my family about building things with computers. You'd be surprised how hard it is to get them interested, even if they play Minecraft all day.

For many of us, we got interested in programming though randomly hacking a game at one point in time. Telling kids that they can build their own games or apps and helping them potentially get interested is a big deal in itself.
