fredsters_s··on MongoDB Gotchas and How To Avoid Them
It's interesting to get a rundown of Mongo's limitations from someone who clearly knows what they're talking about. Thanks.
fredsters_s··on Filepicker.io launches Django, Rails, PHP, Phonegap libraries
love it. the pace these guys develop at is insane.
fredsters_s··on A tale of hacking in Cyprus: What we've learned from organizing a hackathon
so awesome, loved the design and execution of this thing. maybe this concept could be expanded to other beautiful hot countries.
fredsters_s··on Show HN: Simple SaaS Metrics Dashboard for Stripe
velly nice
fredsters_s··on Braintree Buys Venmo for $26.2 Million
Interested in revenue vs exit valuation... Can you say anything about it? The margins must be phenomenally low if the valuation was only 10% of what you process yearly...
fredsters_s··on Show HN: App creates a meal plan that satisfies your nutrition constraints
Great work man. I've always wondered why this didn't exist. Seems like a very good MVP. I will use it.
fredsters_s··on Jack Dorsey: Today Starbucks Signed up for Square
"NFC will take over"

Care to evidence that assumption just a little bit?

fredsters_s··on Jack Dorsey: Today Starbucks Signed up for Square
Designers in the house! I literally could not absorb the content of the 'letter' because the design hurt my eyes so.
fredsters_s··on Easel (YC S12) launches as an easier way to design for the web in your browser
Really impressive to see how fast these guys are iterating. Excited to see where this goes.
fredsters_s··on What hackers don’t know about business
Very true.
fredsters_s··on Show HN: Statwing is statistical analysis, simplified
looks really awesome. interested to see what if any data analysis can be linked to current events.
fredsters_s··on Responsive Design Myth
I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment of this piece, but I think the distinction between layout and design isn't highlighted.

If you use a framework like Bootstrap to underpin your html and css then having a responsive layout is really very easy. The point of a responsive layout is that your site is legible and clickable to users on non-desktop screens, not that your site looks beautiful for every user.

fredsters_s··on Show HN: Makr.io, a creative and collaborative way to play with images
This site is responsible for more lulz than any in recent memory. Very addictive late-night.
fredsters_s··on 9GAG (YC S12) Raises $2.8M
1+ BILLION pageviews per month. With a team that can kick enough ass to produce those metrics in such short time, doesn't seem so risky.
fredsters_s··on Amicus (YC S12) Uses Facebook To Mobilize Volunteers for Nonprofits
Awesome work guys. The gap between aspirational support and actually pushing forwards a cause is still far too great, and I'm looking forward to see how you narrow it.
fredsters_s··on Integrations: Simple Marketing for Developers
Great idea. We're going to try this.
fredsters_s··on A Day without Programming
I do think this is a great idea, and I actually subscribe to it (although definitely don't do it). I think the higher-order problem that you touch on is that when we have a million things to do, we tend to de-prioritise those that are outside our comfort zone, regardless of how much value they could add.
fredsters_s··on Create beautiful photo sites from your phone with Popset
Awesome
fredsters_s··on Show HN: Filepicker.io web widgets - Easy DragDrop & Cloud Uploads
Awesome! How does this service just keep getting better and better? They are really able to focus on building an awesome product!
fredsters_s··on Sponsorfied (YC S12) Matches Brands With Events Seeking Swag
Love these guys. Super awesome idea and a great team.
fredsters_s··on Trigger.io v1.4 available: Facebook SDK integration, QR scanning
This just keeps getting better and better. I know of several non-coders whose 'learning to code' project was building a working iPhone app, all because of Trigger.io! Badass.
fredsters_s··on The Value of Nonverbal Communication
LOL at that picture :)
fredsters_s··on Show HN: Markupwand, magically convert your photoshop files to HTML & CSS
Love these guys
fredsters_s··on Show HN: gist.io, blogless writing for hackers
awesome. mad props
fredsters_s··on Show HN: BrainTripping - language model comedy
Love this site
fredsters_s··on Twitter Bootstrap with themes, enhancements, and other goodies
Jesus this is ugly. The whole point of Bootstrap is that it's super easy for anyone to make a visually non-jarring website. Bootstrap effectively democratises good design basics on the web. What this is doing is precisely the opposite.
fredsters_s··on Parallel Universe open sources a novel in-memory data grid
love the design
fredsters_s··on Google Hangout competitor Meetings.io (YC W11) attracts 100K users in 2 months
epic!
fredsters_s··on Learning to Hack: the Tipping Point
Agreed. I feel like we are probably the first generation who has grown up with the world's knowledge at our fingertips. Once you know how to use it, every problem seems solvable. Yet still the majority of my friends don't have this attitude. I've forgotten how many times (as the 'tech' friend) I've directed them to an lmgtfy.com link. I wonder what stops people from grasping the concept you're talking about here - from experiencing their own 'tipping point'.
fredsters_s··on Easel: Design without a Designer
Love Easel.
