fotta··on In a Sheep to Shawl competition, you have 5 people, 1 sheep, and 3 hours
From the video in the article, the warp and pattern are preset on the loom by each team and they use the shorn wool for the weft.

what's the source you're quoting here?
fotta··on IKEA made a smart air quality sensor to track indoor pollution
Not necessarily. The SCD series can have auto calibration turned off. You take it outside once and baseline that to 400ppm. The drift on the sensor is rated very low (+-50 ppm over the sensor’s lifetime). This is what I do with my SCD30.

fotta··on I bought a CO2 monitor and it broke me
The SCD30 I have quotes a drift of +-50 ppm over its lifetime. https://sensirion.com/media/documents/4EAF6AF8/61652C3C/Sens...
fotta··on I bought a CO2 monitor and it broke me
I don’t enable automatic calibration on my SCD30 because the algorithm basically assumes that the lowest ppm in the last 7 days is 400ppm and baselines to that. I just took mine outside once, set that to 400ppm and haven’t recalibrated it since. The drift on the sensor is supposed to be very low.
fotta··on I bought a CO2 monitor and it broke me
Yep. I do the exact same thing with my SCD30 and an ESP32 with HomeSpan to bridge it to HomeKit.

If you want to DIY it, Aranet4 uses a Senseair Sunrise which can be had for 1/4 of the price on Digikey [0]. Senseair has Arduino samples on GitHub [1].

I personally have an SCD30 monitor which claims the same accuracy and like it. The important thing is to calibrate them in outside air to 400ppm.

fotta··on Ask HN: What would you do if you didn't have to work?
Personally, I would probably try to teach in some capacity. I have this pipe dream of retiring from FT SWE and teaching high school CS sometime in the future.
fotta··on Roomba testers feel misled after intimate images ended up on Facebook
I have the lowest end Roomba purchased in 2019 that I block from internet access at my router. I can’t use the app but there’s a button on the vacuum I can use to start it. Works enough for me shrug.
fotta··on I Tried JetBrains' “New UI” and I Liked It
Oooooh VS Code does this too and it's really annoying. I don't use it enough to figure out how to disable though.
fotta··on I Tried JetBrains' “New UI” and I Liked It
My unsolicited opinion: I like it, I especially like the new dark theme, but I can't use it full time until some features in the old UI make it to the new one (vertical splitting tool windows, primarily).
fotta··on How do you know when macOS detects and remediates malware?
Ha, off-topic but I love that macOS properly calls it Bin when set to British English
fotta··on Dell’s new UltraSharp monitor is a 6K powerhouse for pros
> You’ll also be able to connect to the U3224KB via Mini DisplayPort 2.1

Interesting tidbit. DP 2.0+ allows for much higher resolutions without needing DSC. The Pro Display XDR for example uses DP 1.4 with DSC to drive the 6k resolution.

fotta··on Dell’s new UltraSharp monitor is a 6K powerhouse for pros
Looks like it has 10Gbps USB so worst case I think you can get a 2.5Gbps adapter
fotta··on Dell’s new UltraSharp monitor is a 6K powerhouse for pros
I'm very interested in this. I've been looking at the XDR for a high-DPI, >27" display but can't bring myself to fork over $5k for it. Hopefully this is significantly cheaper.
fotta··on Apple only lets me choose a default search engine from its pre-approved list
You mean on a Kagi result page? I just type the new query into the search bar on the Kagi page instead. Agreed it’s not ideal.
fotta··on Apple only lets me choose a default search engine from its pre-approved list
I tried it when it was initially in beta but haven’t tried it again. I should give it another spin.
fotta··on Apple only lets me choose a default search engine from its pre-approved list
Use the OpenSearch specification [0]. Most search engines and even websites support it. It’s how, for example, you can search YouTube directly in the FF address bar.

fotta··on Apple only lets me choose a default search engine from its pre-approved list
There’s a Kagi safari extension that will redirect any searches to Kagi. I still set my default to DDG because I think the extension intercepts after the request has been sent.

fotta··on Ask HN: Programs that saved you 100 hours? (2022 edition)
I recently moved to a new machine and copied the history file over, definitely helped me immensely
fotta··on Ask HN: Programs that saved you 100 hours? (2022 edition)
I probably shouldn't admit this but the fzf fish shell integration is basically how I remember useful commands instead of writing them in a note, because I'm too damn lazy

k9s makes me feel like (and look like to my coworkers) a k8s wizard, the parenthetical especially when I'm sharing my terminal and zipping around using keyboard shortcuts

fotta··on Ask HN: If I get locked out of everything, please try to help me
Google is extremely frustrating in this regard. I keep my TOTP in 1Password so that I can have it on multiple devices. When I tried to login in on a new device, I used the TOTP code. Google then wanted me to click approve in the YouTube app on an old device that was no longer functioning. Eventually I was able to get it to work by re-logging in a few times (I guess it gave up) but why the fuck do I even have 2FA if Google isn’t going to fucking respect it? Infuriating.

I think they rotated it. The new one isn’t in crt.sh yet, but for posterity’s sake this is the old one https://crt.sh/?q=DA26F72EACAC75CCEE794140441020848697AEB0
fotta··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
Yeah it looks like they rotated it. It used to be this one: https://crt.sh/?q=DA26F72EACAC75CCEE794140441020848697AEB0

The new one isn’t even indexed on crt.sh yet.

IIRC there’s more than one mod but dang is the most visible. sctb used to be another mod but it looks like he left in 2019.
fotta··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
Aww man. Glad I grabbed a screenshot before it got rotated.
