fortydegrees··on Ask HN: Co-founder wants me to leave but won't entertain a buy out offer
We've spoken a fair bit and they don't have anything specific to say. It's mainly that they don't like or want the stress of working on a startup, and want to run it more as a lifestyle business.
fortydegrees··on Ask HN: Co-founder wants me to leave but won't entertain a buy out offer
I can't imagine my co-founder accepting this as they don't have the cash to buy my shares, so they would be forced to sell?
fortydegrees··on Ask HN: Co-founder wants me to leave but won't entertain a buy out offer
Suppose I did have some bucks in the bank and did get a lawyer - how would they help? So far my co-founder has been pretty unreasonable with regards to compromising and/or negotiaton.

The investor so far has also been very neutral and I think will remain so.

fortydegrees··on Ask HN: Co-founder wants me to leave but won't entertain a buy out offer
The seed investor is remaining neutral.

It's not so much that they'll torch the company. They're just saying they don't have the cash so need to reduce my stake. They will budge on the 3% I'm sure, but I don't value the equity much if I'm not involved.

I'm not too sure what a lawyer would recommend at this point? I also can't really afford one personally - especially as I may be out of work soon haha..

Even if he didn't earn any interest and never earned another penny, at an $85k/yr burn, that $3M will last 35 years. Seems alright?

Great, thanks for listening!

I spent a week coding my own implementation via your API. It seems like a react-native dropin would be very popular.

Feel free to reach out if you'd like to talk more about it.

fortydegrees··on Launch HN: Papercups (YC S20) – Open-Core Intercom Alternative
Yep, no react native support is maddening to me with intercom. A dealbreaker.
fortydegrees··on Launch HN: BaseDash (YC S20) – Edit your database with the ease of a spreadsheet
I'm CTO of a very early stage startup and $50/mo to allow my CEO to read and edit the database is an easy decision.
fortydegrees··on Apple rejects appeal from email app Hey
Another problem with this PR campaign is that it really doesn't give Apple an easy way to back down even if they wanted to.
fortydegrees··on Show HN: Help Me Decide Please
I'm pretty good at UX and I don't have any issues with the current experience. It actually really helped me for my use case.

I wouldn't use a spreadsheet. While I clicked 'How was this calculated?', I realised I didn't care.

Your mistake is thinking the purpose of the app is to give the user the perfect objective recommendation. For most decisions, you just want some kind of psychological justification - for some people that can even be a coin flip.

Thank you for this. I am prescribed 50mg Elvanse and feel slightly worried about its long term effects - and also feel its effectiveness decreasing. I don't know where this ends. I don't want to keep increasing the dose, but without it I'm very ineffective.

Your last paragraph is really difficult to parse. I originally thought you liked the feature because it put you through the emotional wringer (in terms of making you work through certain negative emotions), and that it wasn't coddling you.
fortydegrees··on I was an astrologer
Irrational problems have irrational solutions.

If your child is scared at night because of the monster under their bed, you don't show them that it isn't there. You make a magic stick and give it to the child and tell it that it'll scare away the monster.

For the man that came in and genuinely believed he was cursed, you tell him you have the counter spell.

fortydegrees··on “Is your startup idea taken?” and why we love X for Y startups
You need to be able to answer that. The answer can be no, and saying why will only help demonstrate your understanding of your business and the market.

While I agree with your thoughts on curbing high-skilled immigration, I'm curious as to why you think it's mainly Trump's fault and/or a new 'racist' policy? This sort of thing has been going on for a long time. Trump's deported fewer people than Obama [0].

I agree that this shouldn't be happening, but question both the accuracy and utility of blaming it on Trump.

Maybe if we had a more correct diagnosis, we as hackers - as you say - could be a more effective force against this.
