forsaken··on Hack Reactor: Call for Open-Source Projects
Any particular language that they are working in?
forsaken··on Heroku is now the top giver on Gittip
Why do you assume Heroku wants you to know who they're tipping? Or that it's a positive thing for us to know? Perhaps they are just trying to help the community and don't need credit for it, other than the indication that they are giving.
forsaken··on Python 2.7.4 Released
I would love it if you would maintain a fork of 2.7. I'll look forward to the release!
forsaken··on PyCon 2013 Videos
Some amazing content in here.

Love the talk on how the internet works, it's a great intro for people who are getting into the web.

Getting started with automated testing is a great intro for that subject as well.

Also, kudos to the Pycon video team for getting these videos up less than a week after the conference!

Note: Looks like the videos are still being uploaded.

forsaken··on Goodbye, Malcolm
He also committed my first code to Django. And was amazingly patient with me while I floundered about during sprints that were held in Lawrence, Ks.

He was a great man, and he will be missed in many communities around the web. I was always in awe of his code, including some of the best refactors of Django.

forsaken··on Django Suit: modern theme for Django admin
This attitude is one of the largest problems with open source in my opinion. If people want to try and make money on software, it is their option. It's free for non-commerical use, and the most enlightened thing you could say is "eww"?

People need to eat, and writing open source software to provide for themselves seems like a much better model than doing it for free in their spare time off from some proprietary coding job.

forsaken··on A conference for all those who Write the Docs
We're also trying to build a resource around this kind of information on docs.writethedocs.org. It just launched today as part of this, and is half baked. However, this is the start of that doc: http://docs.writethedocs.org/en/latest/starting.html

It isn't so much about how to write documentation, but adding that section is something we want to do.

We also have a section currently linked to a couple of interesting projects: http://docs.writethedocs.org/en/latest/about/alternatives.ht...

forsaken··on A conference for all those who Write the Docs
We opened up the call for speakers today with the announcement. We're planning to leave it open for 2-3 weeks. Shortly after that we'll announce the schedule.

We will also be announcing speakers as we get them confirmed throughout the following weeks. We know it's short notice, so we're trying to get the information out to people as quickly as we can.

The timing is a bit constrained because I am going to be hiking the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada starting later in April: http://ericholscher.com/blog/2013/jan/10/walk-woods/

forsaken··on A conference for all those who Write the Docs
Thanks for the kind words. We believe that coming to the conference itself will be worthwhile for many aspects. Meeting people in the community, being able to share ideas in real time, and having a shared experience of watching all the talks with other members, and having that spawn ideas and conversation.

However, we know that not everyone can make it. It's a conference about documentation, so documenting the talks just seems like a natural thing to do :) Hopefully it will be a good aid for others trying to write documentation, and serve as a resource for the good of the community in general.

forsaken··on A conference for all those who Write the Docs
We plan on recording all of the talks and releasing them for free.
forsaken··on Handling Growth with Postgres
Postgres has also been heavily endorsed by Django since the early days and used heavily in the Python community. Instagram is a Django site, so the fact that they use Postgres is not too surprising.
forsaken··on Rescuing Resque: Let's do this
We also use beanstalk a ton where I work. We have put multiple billions of jobs through it over the past few years. It's rock solid and one of my favorite pieces of software.
forsaken··on Help fund Read the Docs

forsaken··on Dropbox Introduces 2-Factor Authentication
That is pretty horrible UX. Why would they enable it in the web UI, but make you look at a forum post to get the build you need. Also, without linking to it when you get an error on the build?
forsaken··on Dropbox Introduces 2-Factor Authentication
I upgraded my account, and now the desktop client is not letting me login, saying I need the latest client. I downloaded that and it still gives me the same error..
forsaken··on Do you check HTTPS certificates in your API clients?
Most sphinx documentation has a permalink if you hover over the title text. It will show up in this instance to the right.

forsaken··on Wikipedia to Shut Down on Wednesday to Protest SOPA
I think that it's crazy that all of this effort is going into opposing SOPA. It seems that there should be a bill/effort drafted to codify the freedom of the internet, and making DNS blocking illegal.
forsaken··on Designing Great API Docs

forsaken··on Ask HN: What music do you like to listen to while you program?
Agreed on the classical. I really enjoy listening to Bela Fleck, and this NPR video has him (banjo), a bass fiddle player, and another playing with a Tabla. Highly recommended.

forsaken··on In case SOPA passes: IP addresses of popular websites
Sounds like the eventual outcome of this is a dark/grey net DNS system. I wouldn't be surprised if something like this already existed, but now it will be much more useful and interesting to everyday people.
forsaken··on If you're using Ruby trunk, regenerate your keys
How common of a practice is it in the Ruby community to run the trunk version? Is it mainly just developers, or is it pretty widely used in production/development environments?

forsaken··on One Million Concurrent TCP connections
Curious about what you've seen from the EC2 networking gear that's holding you back? Firewall not letting more connections through?
forsaken··on Whyday is Friday
This makes me happy. I think the python community could use a dose of whimsy as well. At work we're having a Free Friday that was pre-planned, but lines up well with Why Day. I think it's time to do something awesomely unorthodox.

Just need to stretch my brain in that direction, it's been too long.

forsaken··on Requests: HTTP for Humans
Yes. They're both created using Sphinx: http://sphinx.pocoo.org/

Requests is hosted on a site called Read the Docs, which does documentation hosting for Sphinx projects: http://readthedocs.org/

Sphinx has become the defacto documentation tool for Python projects, and a lot of other projets as well. Notably a number of PHP projects, and Varnish the web cache use it also.

forsaken··on Django Offline Docs
Would people be interested in a Downloadable HTML version as well? RTD only offers PDF for the moment, but supporting a downloadable HTML zip would be pretty simple to do as well. I note that it's the other part of the OP that isn't supported.
forsaken··on Django Offline Docs
1.2.4 and all the other versions that are built are also available. They aren't linked from the site, but are get-able with a little URL munging:
