forsaken··on EthicalAds, a privacy-focused ad network for developers
1. Thanks for the input! I'll submit that as well :)

2. Luckily we run our largest publisher, which is how we seeded the market. Now we are doing the classic balancing act on both sides

3. Yep -- it helps :)

4. Yea, we do keyword-targeted ads: https://ethical-ad-client.readthedocs.io/en/latest/#page-spe... -- this allows publishers to target the ads based on content of the pages.

Thanks for the feedback/questions! Maybe I should also do a Show HN: to get more ideas.

forsaken··on Lessons from building and growing an open source SaaS
NSLookup definitely looks like a fit for us at EthicalAds. You can ping me at the email in my bio and we can get you signed up.
forsaken··on “This is the worst documentation I have ever seen in my life”
Sphinx supports this for Python: https://www.sphinx-doc.org/en/master/usage/extensions/doctes...
forsaken··on Hunting for Malicious Packages on PyPI
One of the PyPI maintainers noted:

> This is a great approach to detecting malicious code execution in Python packages.

> ... anyone want to fund making this part of @pypi?

I think this is an obvious place that someone in the ecosystem could apply money and make their supply chain (and everyone else's) safer.

forsaken··on No More Google
We're trying to build an ad network that stands in stark opposition to Google's tracking: https://www.ethicalads.io/advertising-vision/ -- it's still early days, but we're always look for more OSS projects and products to join.
forsaken··on Announcing EthicalAds: a privacy-focused ad network for developers
Our javascript is super small in terms of loading the ad, and we don't allow advertisers to add their own JS. So it shouldn't effect performance at all.

You can see our JS here: https://github.com/readthedocs/ethical-ad-client/blob/master...

Glad to see they kept the original essence and just seemingly updated it.
forsaken··on Idaho sets record low solar price as it starts on shift to 100pct renewables
Curious of the politics that has folks in Idaho talking so warmly about renewable energy. If you believe the national news, all red states want to keep burning coal. Curious about the background here.
forsaken··on Improving documentation of open source software
Love docs? Check out https://www.writethedocs.org — conferences in 3 continents and meetups around the world. Also a slack community for more real-time docs talk.
forsaken··on Supporting open source with 3% of our revenue
Neat. I wrote about a similar idea a while back, which might add some other arguments if people want to pitch it to their own company: https://www.ericholscher.com/blog/2018/mar/9/one-percent-for...
forsaken··on The Founder’s Guide To Selling Your Company (2014)
Anyone have good links on selling a company that actually has revenue?
forsaken··on Turn Your Website Traffic into Facebook Messenger Subscribers
I'd rather turn them into email list subscribers, so my messages always go to them without having to pay FB money.
forsaken··on Building documentation mindshare in a company
Guessing someone edited the title. It’s taking about documentation, and should say "Building documentation mindshare in a company".
forsaken··on The End of Gratipay
I think it's a lesson that the entire tech community is learning slowly (and marginalized people have been shouting about for years, to their credit).
forsaken··on The End of Gratipay
They were one of the pioneers in the space of sustainability around open source, which led to many of the wonderful projects we have today. Thanks to Chad for putting so much work in over the years towards a worthwhile mission.
forsaken··on Migrating Slack's Desktop App to BrowserView
Tried the new beta: it lost all my configured networks, and I had to re-add them all. Otherwise, it seems _way_ faster than the old one, and definitely an upgrade.

Tesla is amazing at marketing. Elon also seems like a genuinely good person, which helps.

Like folks giving money to open source projects? You should apply for a Mozilla OSS award (https://wiki.mozilla.org/MOSS) -- deadline is July 31!
forsaken··on Introducing sphinx-js, a better way to document large JavaScript projects
Python also has a similar concept: https://docs.python.org/2/library/doctest.html

Sphinx also has additional doc testing methods that let you test the code examples in your actual docs: http://www.sphinx-doc.org/en/stable/ext/doctest.html

forsaken··on Pinterest Raises $150M at 2015 Share Price
I have the same issue with Quora. Makes me sad every time I go there and find useful info, but feel pushed away. Dropbox also does similar -- in fact they broke all their old direct public links, so that you can use their new "sharing" dialog, so that they can spam the recipient to get a Dropbox account. Sigh.
forsaken··on The Deck ad network is shutting down
This makes me sad. We based our Ethical Advertising concept that we're doing on Read the Docs (http://docs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ethical-advertising.htm...) on their inspiration.

We don't have nearly as much mobile traffic (only ~6%), so hopefully we will be able to make it work, but this doesn't fill me with confidence.

forsaken··on A Formal Spec for GitHub Flavored Markdown
Yea, I mention commonmark in the post, and referred to it in the "standard that was used" part -- commonmark is great, but wasn't widely adopted.

Updated my original post to be more clear.
