forkrulassail··on How to hack yourself a standing desk - an illustrated guide
I do.
forkrulassail··on How to hack yourself a standing desk - an illustrated guide
To further stack my own mini-thread:

I had a hernia two years ago, 31 year old developer.

I've seen some treadmill standing working hacks, I've tried the balance ball idea (I'm 1.92m - knees to high up for biggest balance ball).

I use Workrave consistently to lock me out of my PC out every 30 minutes, to force me to walk around and avoid pain medication.

Recommendations, tips, tricks, and and easy to build schematic appreciated.

I mean - more of the actual use (non-chair-on-table) solutions?

Anyone have an instructable for not-very-good DIYer?
forkrulassail··on Garage48 hackathon will expand into 5 African countries
Good times. This looks great.
forkrulassail··on 335k downloads of Learning Python The Hard Way
Congrats, and kudos for adding to the knowledge pool for learners. You should consider making .mobi and .epub available as well.
forkrulassail··on Ask HN: Do you automate most of your routine tasks?
Yes, server tasks, deployment tasks. My daily routine 'feels' automated to a large extent and I'm still trying to optimize for output.

When I say my daily routine feels automated I mean, when I have two boring tasks I usually combine them to make them less inane. So an automata type scenario comes into play. I don't have to 'think' about the two crappy but necessary tasks.

forkrulassail··on Poll: Are you on Facebook?
Joined. Then left because of web literalists.

Now have a band (read: marketing) profile.

forkrulassail··on Poll: Engineers/Hackers, can you touch type?
Another interesting question would be, who has learned NEO or Dvorak layouts and actively use them.
forkrulassail··on Ask HN: Are you working on any side projects that make "small/passive" income?
Link me, I would like to become a customer.

Well said.
forkrulassail··on Microsoft Takes Legal Action Against Barnes & Noble over Android
Similar to drug wars but no drugs, just pools of patents :)
forkrulassail··on Microsoft Takes Legal Action Against Barnes & Noble over Android
Does anyone see a gap here for a PatentWar app that runs on Android?
forkrulassail··on Amazon shuts down Lendle
Very, very bad style. 2 weeks is mostly not enough time between work and life to finish the thicker books. So one ends up buying loaned books you otherwise wouldn't have considered.

This is a really stupid move and I implore others to make it known via the Helpdesk.

Interesting. Thanks for the writeup.

forkrulassail··on Ask HN: Hackers falling in love
Support structure, focus and continued encouragement is all I get. In small, daily and consistent doses. I'm diving in full time in March, and can't see myself doing it without the other.
forkrulassail··on Mea Culpa: GitHub works well, my mistake made them look bad
Takes something to apologize like that. I'm sure they're glad about it.

You seriously made me paranoid about my repositories.

forkrulassail··on Nikola Tesla predicted mobile phones in 1909
That is awesome to hear. He is mostly hidden by other cultures.
forkrulassail··on Poll: Should the US President have an Internet kill-switch?
Let's give the US the root servers AND a killswitch.
forkrulassail··on Poll: Should the US President have an Internet kill-switch?
That would be insane.
forkrulassail··on Air Force wants cryptographic security for iPhones, Android
It's about time we looked at GPL'ed implementation standards for Android call and text encryption, especially considering the trailing and security through obscurity approach by GSM networks.
forkrulassail··on Netflix: ISPs who charge by the gigabyte are ridiculous
Sad, really.
forkrulassail··on Netflix: ISPs who charge by the gigabyte are ridiculous
This has been the status quo in South Africa from 1997. In 2009 I lost a legal battle via the Advertising Complaints Commission.

It boiled down to the wording. Uncapped means that they can shape your line to s*, and still sell it as a 4meg ADSL service.

forkrulassail··on The End Of Facebook and Free Software's Quiet Revolution
'The end of', '<insert app/device> killer' and '* considered harmful' articles need better headlines and frankly strikes me as similar to the placard wielding 'end is nigh' crusties.
forkrulassail··on LivingSocial Hacked
Well, the final server side purchase shows the 1 card, $10 amount, so a fair amount of server side validation is being done.
forkrulassail··on LivingSocial Hacked
Thanks for the Breakage concept. Wonder if it applies to how empty gyms function on unattending membership fees.
forkrulassail··on Poll: How often do you visit HN?
I replaced the Twitter and Facebook crack with the HN Codein2
forkrulassail··on Show HN: 7courses, the recipe manager.
Agreed. Unlinked logins would be ideal.
forkrulassail··on Ugly Software (like Blackboard) Gives Education a Bad Name
Agreed. Sad when capitalism gets 'dictated' by law.
