foco_tubi··on The lost joy of music piracy
Either BSS or one of the plethora of related bands
foco_tubi··on Under federal rule, colleges must leave grads better off or lose financial aid
Yes, of course you can. On average, higher education tends to produce positive national returns. This has been studied over and over and over. The selection of major and college is largely irrelevant. Even though individual returns vary significantly by major, institution, completion rate, and labor-market conditions, the average measured return to higher education is positive enough that most competent economists view it as a productive public investment.

I might say the same about your stance, especially considering all you've offered up as evidence are hypothetical situations.
foco_tubi··on Using precision editing to study human embryo development shows master gene
The hypothetical you provide only serves to weaken your point.
foco_tubi··on Under federal rule, colleges must leave grads better off or lose financial aid
“Practicing” and providing maintenance care of a condition are two completely different concepts, and the point you replied to stands.
foco_tubi··on Under federal rule, colleges must leave grads better off or lose financial aid
Individually-scoped education is objectively a good national investment
foco_tubi··on Punk, or why I don't stream anymore
We used to record the showings listings manually at the cinemas and it was incredibly hard to do while zooted on weed

Theater usher was quite possibly the best job I’ve ever had

foco_tubi··on A new bill takes aim at government pressure to silence lawful online speech
Larry Bushart was arrested and jailed for more than a month for posting a Charlie Kirk meme.

Douglass Mackey was arrested and convicted for posting satirical Clinton election ads, though this was later overturned after he spent months in prison.

foco_tubi··on A new bill takes aim at government pressure to silence lawful online speech
Collusion is the wrong word. Coercion is more appropriate.

> I just wish the people claiming to be champions of free speech and rights will just admit that this all goes out the window when it applies to speech and people you don't like

Try using the word "cis-gender" on Twitter and let us know how that goes.

foco_tubi··on Gig workers are endlessly exploited. AI could make more of us share their fate
I did gig work before the wage requirements went into effect and I think you're overly reliant on your anecdote for validation of your personal politics.

foco_tubi··on Strava sunsetting free API endpoints and public profiles
- The company is adding a flat $11.99 per month fee for all developers, though it noted the price may vary by geography

- Earlier, users were able to see details like public profiles and fitness club listings without logging in. The company is putting all that data behind authentication to protect it from unauthorized AI scraping.

As a teenager I spent a ton of time on this website, specifically the skins directory
foco_tubi··on The Joy of Folding Bikes
Most of the parts are proprietary, so if you bork a derailleur you get to wait 6-8 weeks for a replacement from the UK

it's more like having your friend write an essay for you, except the friend is an impressionable 5 year old with a PhD

foco_tubi··on Sheldon Brown's Bicycle Technical Info
Sheldon was a wealth of information when I first started tinkering on my vintage 3-speed back in 2007. I would pore over these simple pages for hours in my dorm at college instead of studying. That led to dropping out and working in the bike industry for almost 10 years. It was a great preparation in problem solving and systems-oriented thinking before I got into programming.

For PBP2027 you have all of 2026, as well as 2027 leading up to registration, to complete the required BRMs.

I'm riding my qualifying 300k tomorrow!

foco_tubi··on A website to destroy all websites
Henry is one of the most cutting edge designers out there today in my opinion. Check out his other sites.
foco_tubi··on Ask HN: What would you do if you didn't work in tech?
I'm currently incubating a sick twisted fantasy to run a handbuilt bicycle wheelbuilding store. If you asked me this question 20 years ago, the answer would be music teacher.

foco_tubi··on You lose 23 minutes of focus every Google or GPT use;
> It takes 23 minutes and 15 seconds to regain deep focus after a context switch (UC Irvine).

According to the cited study, interruptions (especially "related" ones) actually result in people working harder and faster.

Interesting that the PS5 has been implicated - does this mean that there is an opportunity to jailbreak firmware again?
foco_tubi··on Turn any bicycle electric
Misleading title - this won't work on a recumbent.
foco_tubi··on Another burnout post
I'm convinced bicycle commuting is what's going to make my 8:30-5:30 bearable. Hope I'm right.
foco_tubi··on The Fifth Generation Project in Japan (1992)
It's a long expired domain that originally belonged to that SJSU professor, I doubt he will ever update the links on these articles. That doesn't negate the value of the article itself.
foco_tubi··on Is Matt Mullenweg defending WordPress or sabotaging it?
Who cares if WP Engine disables revisions. Wordpress.com disables the use of plugins, arguably a core feature of WordPress, unless you pony up $300 a year for a "Business" tier account.
foco_tubi··on Bike Manufacturers Are Making Bikes Less Repairable
Complete bicycle manufacturers usually make these specification lists public in online and print catalogs. Component-level repair, as in many other fields, requires more specialized knowledge and a parts list is rarely practical nor helpful.
foco_tubi··on Bike Manufacturers Are Making Bikes Less Repairable
I suggest you find a new shop with better mechanics
foco_tubi··on Bike Manufacturers Are Making Bikes Less Repairable
Seatposts support hundreds of pounds of human flesh also, so the weight usually isn't the concern. But if your bike looks like more of a motorcycle, it's probably not going into my work stand.

On the point about the power cable, this is more directed at hub Drive motors. If I can't disconnect your motor to remove your wheel, I'm not going to fix your flat tire.

Parliament breaks between coats of Mastik...yeah, sometimes I think I miss that smell, but I don't.
