foateaca··on I was stuck on a side project for 5 years – how I finished it (2020)
Your very insightful comment seems to embrace a principal I see rarely remembered but one I find a kind of lost achievement of the Enlightenment- there are things worth doing for their own sake, not requiring further justification. For me this became clear about so many meaningful parts of life after finally starting to understand what Thomas Nagel meant in his essay The Absurd.
foateaca··on It's time to build: a New World's Fair
Yet international art fairs and specialty conventions had been taking off for the 20 years before the pandemic. People still like to travel and come together under well organized events. The issue is the wisdom of a city or region pouring in billions of billions for a week-long event. Maybe there's a new model to be invented.
foateaca··on Why the new USPS mail trucks look so weird
Awesome that it is designed to be electric conversion-friendly. I'd call this a win for functional design constraints because it looks very practical, in a good way. Needs: safety and efficiency.
foateaca··on Photographer Sues Kat Von D over Miles Davis Tattoo
Money is not the end goal; it is only useful insofar as it advances creative works. Too often it stifles creativity, science or otherwise.
foateaca··on Photographer Sues Kat Von D over Miles Davis Tattoo
The purpose of copyright is to promote science and arts, not to make money.

I feel like it was an earlier attempt at something we are much better at now: multi-disciplinary storytelling about intellectual topics. The premise is interesting but it feels much more difficult to absorb than it should be. Or maybe its just over my head.

Standardize it. Policy makers should provide a standard message, or small set of messages websites can reuse and consumers recognize with links to an EU-run informational website easy to understand for consumers. I don't understand why it wasn't implemented this way, maybe to allow for more freedom of implementation, but we have seen that has hurt the policy effort. Just standardize it.

Incidentally, with all of the Organic / GMO-Free / et all certifiers out there, would a privacy badge be the way to go, or is that backwards thinking in the way of early internet site badges?
