fleischhauf··on The surprising connection between after-hours work and decreased productivity
I don't fully get the analogy. 10th floor is higher than 1st or 8th, so then you would get more work done? You can certainly climb 10 floors with the same speed as 1 or 8..
fleischhauf··on Where Is OpenCV 5?
agreed, they should just have a good interoperability
fleischhauf··on Where Is OpenCV 5?
as far as I am aware opencv has a lot of classical Computer Vision stuff that is missing in tensorflow/pytorch. In case you need speed, or can't have data annotation, or something where deep learning is not super useful (slam) it's still very relevant I'd say.
fleischhauf··on Strategies for making reproducible research the norm
I like the idea a lot. I don't expect a lot of feedback/reviews from other scientists, there are just not that many and they are likely busy with something else
fleischhauf··on OpenAI researchers warned board of AI breakthrough ahead of CEO ouster
plot twist, his son is 38 and has a physics degree
fleischhauf··on Machine intelligence (2015)
the article on how ai could be harmful seems more like people trying to use the tool (LLM) to do evil things. You can also do evil things with other tools than AI.
fleischhauf··on New York may ban noncompete employment agreements and Wall Street is not happy
also, in case of the billable hours, the lawyers might do it due to monetary incentives, but subway might be malicious (or have other reasons to do it)
fleischhauf··on Most Americans are oblivious to 'forever chemicals' and risks, research finds
at least in Germany you can also get yogurt from a glass. there is even a shop where you can buy things without packaging in Berlin.
fleischhauf··on Tinder Offers $500-a-Month Subscription to Its Most Active Users
depends what you are looking for. if you just want to continually hook up with new people, a better subscription might be good for you. I also didn't read the article, so I have no idea what the subscription is about
fleischhauf··on The Musaicum EU-plus 10M resolution image of Europe
what's the highest resolution satelite data that is commercially available actually?
fleischhauf··on It’s not intelligent if it always halts: A critical perspective on AI approaches
I'm not sure humans work differently. You might not learn something if you are coming to conclusions, only if the conclusions turn out to be correct or wrong you'll learn. the process of learning might then be different.
fleischhauf··on Nvidia announces financial results for second quarter fiscal 2024
to be fair Nvidia drivers are also a nightmare under linux
fleischhauf··on Stopping at 90%
as a researcher in Computervision, thank you so much for going the extra mile!!
fleischhauf··on Room temperature, ambient pressure superconductivity – this time for real?
I'm also highly scheptical but if you'd asked a bunch of random people wether or not the relativity theory is true or nuclear weapons when they were first demonstrated they probably would have been equally sceptical
fleischhauf··on Have attention spans been declining?
ADHD is a physical change in the brain tho, it goes so far that it alters the effects of drugs like cocaine
fleischhauf··on Europe heatwave: Hot weather sweeps across southern Europe
it's not southern Europe only, sweating in underwear in Berlin right now
fleischhauf··on VanMoof encryption key exporter
how can you lose money with every sale then tho
fleischhauf··on Experiencing decreased performance with ChatGPT-4
I don't know man, it used to give me results where my query would appear in the text. this is not happening anymore. even if I use quotes around a term it will just be ignored. I feel like my searches are too specific, it might have gotten better for the average person, but worse for people looking for some more special information.
fleischhauf··on Windows 11 calls a zip file a 'postcode file' in UK English
sounds like both no?
fleischhauf··on Run and create custom ChatGPT-like bots with OpenChat
I don't think you can really 100% prevent it. even openai has issues with gpt responding in an undesired way (google Dan, where people try to hack instructions to get responses that are undesired by the openai team). However I think you can make it more difficult (as in the person trying to misuse your chatbot will need to put in some effort to get the strawberry cake, if you have instructed it before to only give information about your product)
fleischhauf··on Catfishing on an Industrial Scale
I noticed this as well in Germany, lots of asian girl profiles that pretend to be from a rich background and that have some sort of investment advisory team working for them and claiming they will give you some tips for forex trading you just need to register on this website and transfer money. or similar stories.

I once made a remark to a profile like that, that I might as well be talking to a hairy fat philipino. I got a barrage of Japanese text back, that when put into an online translator roughly translated to something like: "I am a proud japanese you idiot European, your farts smell like shit, go fuck yourself". So it seems I got under someone's skin there. Since then I'm wondering where this operation is based. the profiles are so similar in style that it must be organized somehow. I wonder how and where.

fleischhauf··on Airbnb is making life hell for young renters in tourist hotspots
not disagreeing with you about the better options but BnB also eats up housing, no?
fleischhauf··on StarCoder and StarCoderBase: 15.5B parameter models with 8K context length
sounds more like lazyness, I think we might be ok actually.
fleischhauf··on Buddha statue uncovered in Egypt's Red Sea reveals ancient trade route
how about an encrypted SSD or HDD?
fleischhauf··on A Plea for Fairness for Non-Profit Developers of Open Source Software
I think it's more of a generational issue. as far as my experience goes most of the younger folks consider themselves european
fleischhauf··on Text2Video-Zero Code and Weights Released by Picsart AI Research (12G VRAM)
maybe the frame rate is not high enough to capture the flip, could just be a super fast dachshund..
fleischhauf··on Understanding ChatGPT
you say obviously doesn't. These language models do indeed work by computing a distribution over all possible next words given the previous words using transformers, and it seems using enough training data and compute gives you the results we see. Everyone I know is completely surprised that it works so well by just adding more data and compute (and probably lots of training tricks)..
fleischhauf··on What does “excess liquidity sloshing around the financial system” mean?
are there any alternatives being explored actually?
fleischhauf··on The 'buy now, pay later' bubble is about to burst
while I agree I can also see cases where you need things not later, but now but you'll have the money later not now. e.g. moving to a remote village where you really need a car or buying that compute for data processing or rendering you need for your freelance work
fleischhauf··on “The more reliant we are on others, the less resilient we are as a nation”
that was the German strategy towards Russia "Wandel durch Handel". Assuming that trade is mutual beneficial it makes an armed conflict less likely because both sides have so much to lose. With Russia it did not work unfortunately. It's debatable if it works with china.
