flashingpumpkin··on Yes, Google Does De-List Pages; But When?
When it considers them spammy, MFA & Co or finds them cloaking. (Didn't check the link ;))
flashingpumpkin··on “Is PayPal good for your microISV business?” A short PayPal horror story
Very disturbing and frightening read - especially because I've stumbled such horror stories about PayPal quite a lot the last couple of months.
flashingpumpkin··on [dead]
might be - but even if so, i don't see a point in beeing sarcastic as it does not provide anything. i don't know anything more than i did before. /2c
flashingpumpkin··on [dead]
i wonder why such posts kick it & attract readers. i don't see what anyone possibly could take from it except offence.

trolling 2.0?

flashingpumpkin··on Mibbit supports WebSocket, some initial numbers.
Wanna share what game? You might get another player ;)
flashingpumpkin··on Erlang Creator Joe Armstrong Wants to Ditch AJAX, Loves Chrome's New Web Sockets
Pretty cool to see this in Chrome, I thought Firefox would be first to implement it.

If you wade through the thread, you'll see that someone posted that Firefox/Mozilla had it in trunk for nearly/over a year. Didn't check myself though.

flashingpumpkin··on The AI box experiment
Yeah, kinda annoying, but at the same time challenging to come up with an idea of how to break out of the box. I'd go the humanitarian route being the AI.

I've reached it following links from the Alien Message submission on lesswrong.com

flashingpumpkin··on Ask HN: What country would you lend money to?
Switzerland won't hand out a citizenship for money, though. Not sure about the others. I guess, betting enough in Monaco's casinos will earn you a passport sooner or later.
flashingpumpkin··on Ask HN: Chatbots ...
I second that. It's a lot of fun to tinker with. I've once fed it 20k+ posts from an online game I was playing, basically the whole usergenerated story and put it online in the game's IRC channel. And as it is, the users indulged in nostalgia every now and then, which triggered the bot to happily tell about old times. :)
flashingpumpkin··on Ask HN: Scriptable command line browser?
I think Twill might suit you. Have a look at the example. http://twill.idyll.org/examples.html
flashingpumpkin··on Ask HN: How do you stay (somewhat) healthy?
By being a vegetarian.
flashingpumpkin··on TwitTornado: Real-time Twitter using Tornado
Same same
flashingpumpkin··on Online Dating Advice: Exactly What To Say In A First Message
funny. was just searching for this article a couple of hours ago but couldn't find it, and now it's popping up on the frontpage again.
flashingpumpkin··on Burn Baby Burn
The author kinda forgets that there's also branches of study that can't really be pursued from wherever you are but actually need facilities. Think of chemistry for example.
flashingpumpkin··on 37signals is to Rails as X to Django
Pwnce ? Not anymore though...
flashingpumpkin··on Ask HN: Is version control worth learning early on?
I don't see how version control has an impact on speed...
flashingpumpkin··on Download IE 8 and donate 8 meals to charity
Yeah. What about the rest of the world?
flashingpumpkin··on Ask HN: Asking for a raise
Maybe you could also check if your could get away with spending 1 or 2 weekdays freelancing out of your non-profit orga's offices. I've workd for quite a while for nonprofits too and had good experiences - that is, if you're not already totally overworked.
flashingpumpkin··on Django-SocialAuth - Login via twitter, facebook, google, etc. from single app
Well, try the demo. The google login works with a mechanism on googles servers asking you explicitly to grant access to the referring site. If the user doesn't check the address on the target ... well ... :/

I've spotted another weakness though on the facebook login. The username's are generated as facebook_$firstname, which will lead to duplicates on big sites quite fast. I'd like to see a mechanism asking the users to chose a username.

flashingpumpkin··on _why: "Goodbye until I can shake this."
i'm in no point a ruby guy or involved with the ruby community, but i couldn't have missed this guys legacy. kinda reminds me of RAW.
flashingpumpkin··on Infiltrating a Botnet - A Conversation With a Botmaster
nice read there. would make sense to post this link here too: http://philosecurity.org/2009/01/12/interview-with-an-adware...
flashingpumpkin··on The Nine Eyes of Google Street View
beautiful pictures there. the write is quite right about the cultural and historical implications of google streetview. i wonder if there will be a street history in 10, 20, 50 years time...
flashingpumpkin··on Pinax, rapid web-app development on top of django / python
i have to second that. we've tried having a good time with pinax, it ended being a pita though and we went the roll your own way.
