flareback··on Mark Zuckerberg says AI could soon do the work of Meta's midlevel engineers
One day they're going to want only senior engineers, but with AI taking all the mid-level jobs there won't be any seniors.
flareback··on A popular but wrong way to convert a string to uppercase or lowercase
He gave 4 examples of how it's done incorrectly, but zero actual examples of doing it correctly.
flareback··on Show HN: A whiteboard that writes math equations
Looks like my 5 year old's handwriting. Sometimes I actually have no idea what it was writing. Plus the text was overlapping at times
flareback··on Ask HN: Should we bring software dev in-house?
I would look at what you could buy off the shelf before building it yourself. I know some of the guys at Rygen.com and they're building some great logistics software. I don't work there or have any financial interest in it myself.
flareback··on US agency will not reinstate $900M subsidy for Starlink
The government shouldn't be funding internet anyways.
flareback··on The FTC sues to break up Amazon over an economy-wide “hidden tax”
Can we sue the Federal Reserve for it's "Hidden Tax" of inflation?
flareback··on Ord Phone
Well ain't that some BS. I don't like that type of behavior from a company, makes me not trust them.
flareback··on Is algae the new kale?
I've seen this movie, I don't want that life
flareback··on Space-based solar power is getting serious
I always wonder about the health effects of beaming energy to earth on the people near the beam. What keeps the beam narrow to the just the intended collection point? The article states it's microwaves and that doesn't sound healthy to be bombarded by microwaves. Is there something here that I'm missing about how they're transmitting the energy?
flareback··on Tell HN: Razorpay a YC company shared donor data under a Section 91 order
What is "BJP"?
flareback··on FAA, do your damn job
Devils Advocate: They need to evaluate very carefully the switch. If an engine was designed to run on 100LL then there's a switch to G100UL then care must be taken to ensure it won't mess up the engine. We're not talking about a land based engine (like a car) where if the engine stops you just coast over to the side of the road and call a tow truck. You're talking about an emergency landing which means possible damage to people and property other than the pilot and plane. Many of the general aviation planes out there were built in the 60's and 70's so the FAA needs to be sure it won't cause problems.
flareback··on Why is there no theory of the just riot? (2021)
Came here to say this but you already said it
flareback··on Dracula Theme – A dark theme for many different apps
I actually prefer darcula to dracula
flareback··on Dracula Theme – A dark theme for many different apps

As far as light mode themes go that ones pretty good

flareback··on Black and Latino students did worse in schools with ‘diversity officers’: study
Is there an article that's not quite so snarky and obviously biased?
flareback··on MacBook Pro 14-inch and MacBook Pro 16-inch
I agree that in normal use it's only covering the menu bar and probably won't be much of a deal. What happens if an app has a lot of menu options? What will that do to the bar?

What about gaming? is this something the developers will have to work around or will the game only be below the notch?

flareback··on On Apple’s “Expanded Protections for Children” – A Personal Story
I've recently bought a pinephone, I'll be glad to get out of the apple eco-systemm

flareback··on Blue Origin first human flight
That makes a lot more sense
flareback··on Blue Origin first human flight
Can you expand on this? I've never looked into who is financing this project. I've always assumed it was just Bezos' own money he was using.
flareback··on Blue Origin first human flight
Am I the only one annoyed that it's spelled "Shepard"
flareback··on Papers every developer should read at least twice (2009)
The hero we need since the article didn't provide links.
flareback··on Huge data leak shatters the lie that the innocent need not fear surveillance
I think part of it is an "I don't care" attitude but another part is that people think that the government won't bother them. Another part of it is that there is nothing they can do even if they did care.
flareback··on The code on the laptop in the stock photo at developer.bbc.com is user-editable
That is brilliant
flareback··on One Fastly customer triggered internet meltdown
fta: "The outage has raised questions about relying on a handful of companies to run the vast infrastructure that underpins the internet."

I read that phrase everytime something like this happens and yet we all still rely on the same handful of companies.

flareback··on NES.css – NES-Style CSS Framework
This is the kind of css I would use as an easter egg. Enter the konami code and swap the css for this.
flareback··on Museum of Bad Album Covers
There's this site that's been around for a while. http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/
flareback··on A former Uber engineer's disaster story
> So my advice. Everything in Computer Science is a trade off. There is no universally superior language. Whatever you do, understand what the tradeoff are why you are making them. Don’t let it descend into a political war between opinionated factions.

I really like this point.
