fizwidget··on OpenStreetMap Is Turning 20
I’d summarise it like this: * Organic Maps: simpler, nicer, more intuitive UI. Better for most general use cases. * OsmAnd: a somewhat clunky UI, but more powerful and flexible. Better for advanced use cases.

Organic Maps is a better starting point IMHO.

fizwidget··on Organizing OpenStreetMap mapping parties
The Go Map!! editor on iOS recently added StreetComplete-style quests.
fizwidget··on Organic Maps: An open-source maps app that doesn't suck
It does on iOS - maybe not for the Android version?

And even Apple don’t use it everywhere. I don’t see any OSM data in Apple Maps for Australia, at least.
fizwidget··on Organic Maps
I get a kick out of seeing my changes appear in Organic Maps every month or so. Great motivator for contributing to OSM :D
fizwidget··on Organic Maps
I highly recommend OrganicMaps. It’s leagues better than Google Maps for walking & hiking paths, thanks to being powered by OpenStreetMap data. Not to mention it’s much lighter on resource usage.

OrganicMaps supports this too though?
fizwidget··on Ask HN: FOSS Projects Worth Donating To?
OrganicMaps is worth supporting IMHO: https://organicmaps.app/donate/

It’s a FOSS maps app for iOS/Android that uses OpenStreetMaps data. Offline support & minimal battery usage make it ideal for walks/hikes/travelling.

fizwidget··on The positive effect of walking on creative thinking (2014) [pdf]
Might be a silly question, but why not walk outdoors? I find this a lot more enjoyable, though I guess it’d depend a lot on how foot-friendly your local area is.
fizwidget··on iPhones and action discoverability
This was thankfully fixed in iOS 16. The “hide” option is now in the triple-dot menu in the top right corner.
fizwidget··on Google Trying to Solve a UUID
Not for me.
fizwidget··on Connect-Web: TypeScript library for calling RPC servers from web browsers
You can get the benefits of a typed schema with GraphQL, while still using JSON under the hood.
fizwidget··on PlayDate Fulfillment Delayed
Agreed, and interestingly it’s a similar story for the Switch itself! Relative to a PS5 it’s very underpowered, yet it’s still hugely popular in large part because of the awesome Nintendo games.
