the common thread in similar post is that some folks are struggling with _feelings_ and nothing more. valid feelings set off by real and major changes to the very ground they stand on, I guess, but these feelings are ultimately distractions that can paralysis.
The other common thread is these folks are obviously smarter and more accomplished than I am by magnitudes and they're the first ones I'd expect to pull smart (maybe even inspiring) pivots
Can barely keep my eyes socketed from all this involuntary rolling that's overtaken them ...
I'm personally here for the non-bullshit stuff that isn't about getting clicks with hot ledes grounded on warmed over, barely modified well worn takes on well-understood stats so miss me with _that_ shit ...
I'm kind of struck my this because it reminds me of the some contrast between the two platforms during the mid-90s.
While no PC manufacturer controlled their HW stack like Apple did, making Macs more expensive than PCs by almost double, Windows was the only viable OS option as Linux distros had trouble supporting print functionality. Windows was never not hot garbage.
What Mac users got for their money in 1996 was out-of-the-box media production capacity in the form of CD quality (if not DAT on some models) audio and video (though not full-size broadcast quality yet), TTS and -- I _believe_ -- voice rec and of course a superior UX that turned mere users into babbling near-cultish apostles. PCs had superiority in 3D modeling and animation as well as gaming likely helped along by industry adoption (even Steve Jobs' Pixar went PC) but I don't remember any independent PC-based 3D animation folks like I recall independent Mac based visual designers, sound designers/musicians and video producers.
Mac users got their money's worth especially if they were creatives IMHO
The comments are also a helpful reminder of the various sw and visual design/GUI values folks hold.
I personally never gotten past exploring Tkinter but like everything else I played with until I found reason to depend on it, that'll probably change since it's as available as vim and python and _that's_ the kind of thing I value. Limitations/constrains are the engineer's problem, not the tool's (unless they are the tool's problem (but even then, just be your natural creative self and roll with it))
you make that sound more like a bug than the feature it truly is
The following points introduced in Google's answer stand out
"Rather than an outright block, regulators are more likely to push for a conditional approval involving strict legal remedies"
"Because Hugging Face was founded by French entrepreneurs and retains strong European ties, the European Commission is expected to be particularly aggressive in reviewing the deal"
"Ultimately, the transaction marks the beginning of a prolonged legal and regulatory review process that could take many months to resolve"
This is follows up my reply -- https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49467001 -- to the post about NVIDIA's apparently imminent purchase of Hugging Face
I get the incentive to drive views but the cost is a substantial number of comments being about the mismatch and not the content
