There are also OrangeC and OpenWatcom-v2.
fithisux··on Show HN: Yantra – an LALR(1) parser generator for C++
Congratulations. We need more of these tools. I'll give it a try.
fithisux··on Tcl/Tk 9.1 Released
Or Kenny Tilton's celtk or cello?
fithisux··on Tcl/Tk 9.1 Released
Tcl/Tk has saved me back in the day. The Windows distribution BAWT/Magicsplat are timely updated

..... but they do not come with Next Scripting Framework.

There was a new release on September 16, 2026

fithisux··on 1 in 8 cancer cases worldwide are caused by infections, study finds
and you'll have (probably) a (much!) happier and longer life.
fithisux··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
Can't they sell for ethanol?

Wine is also widespread for cooking or marinating.

fithisux··on Goodbye Google
The difference is trust.
fithisux··on MongoDB CEO resigns to join Meta
He doesn't believe in Mongodb anymore. That is how I read it.
fithisux··on F-Droid 2.0
This pushes me more and more to buy a Raspberry PI5 so as to enjoy a de-Googled Android experience.

Some of the apps are really good.

fithisux··on Goodbye Google
"The most important thing I’m confident about is that the Jesus of the Bible is real and therefore God has a plan that’s good for us"

The post resonates with me and the author shows the way.

fithisux··on What do you think of a Java-like language that compiles to native code?
How close it to Java ? The documentation shows a lot of similarity but I need to investigate for non-trivial projects. There is a lot of Java software that can be ported. But it all boils down on how close it is. The closer, the less porting effort.

We definitely need something like this.

fithisux··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
It is simple. Ban them. Otherwise it is genocide.
fithisux··on Transformers Explained Visually
Because that is what experiments suggested and what current computational power can compute.

There is not much theoretical explanation yet. Or why others do not work.

Hand-waving mostly.

fithisux··on AI is an elite crime spree
I agree with the title.
fithisux··on Everybody's Lost Their Minds
The author speaks for me.
fithisux··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
They have partnerships with almost everyone. That is why they can win.

Still I am mostly interested about GrapheneOS or a RaspberryPi5 with an Android 17 build.

But they seem to even own the RAM market.

fithisux··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
100%

Capitalism is transforming to feudalism.

fithisux··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
Google is a for profit company. It does what it needs to stay profitable. Are the actions of Google moral? No!

Governments are paid out to not intervene. They should have stepped in decades ago. They should have made Google to release source code and interoperate with public services. They already make profit from their services.

fithisux··on German Rheinmetall open-sources its Battlesuite connected weapon system protcol
So what do they expect us to do? Write killer-plugins? Or get excited for next upgrade?

The situation gets out of hand!

fithisux··on Microsoft patches Windows and Excel – breaks audio, remote access, and paste
After the last update many things suddenly feel very sluggish like searching an app and starting it.
fithisux··on Compiler Can Undo Your Security Checks
Then the language purpose is vacuous.
fithisux··on Txt: A fast, keyboard-driven terminal text editor for engineers
Why is it better from Fresh or micro?
fithisux··on Compiler Can Undo Your Security Checks
Compiler does what I tell it. Not the other way around.
fithisux··on Pandas Should Go Extinct
The article is harsh for no reason. Pandas served us, for a lot of time and was the de-facto library for Data Scientists. It evolves. Polars was a rewrite following bets practices learnt while working with Pandas.

I do not understand the aggressiveness towards previous evolutionary steps. Who knows, may they come up with newer methods. I still use it. I also use DuckDB and Polars. DuckDB is more useful to me these days from either. Still Pandas has a place in my arsenal. Mostly because I know it better and I like it.

There is also libraries for doing type checking.

fithisux··on Pandas Should Go Extinct
I believe the flood of AI articles drown the fact that data science is not dead.

I see a lot of work towards Geo-Data Science.

PostGIS was a first generation. Now we have GeoPandas, DuckDB Geoanalysis tools and Sedona DB.

IMDB data set is also up.

fithisux··on Google will buy half the electricity from one of Finland's nuclear power plants
This is a way of transferring money to Finland for whatever the DoD wants to do!!!!
fithisux··on The EPA is planning to scrap public review rules for data center pollution
You can help me here. Maybe slavery as a word is not suitable.

I think they need humans to recycle money They need humans to run the green economy as the Afro-americans in the south They need humans as a hunting sport, how to make them do what we need. Let's play with them. The AI is not viable as a business model. So they will use it as a tool for their purposes as long as they can.

fithisux··on The EPA is planning to scrap public review rules for data center pollution
Of course it is. The datacenters are running personalized cops, they will get their cut for sure. This is how we will transition to the new Slave Age.
fithisux··on Open-weights world models' parameter size doubles every ~6 months
I would be more interested the cost of each model in hardware resources to achieve 1 token per second.

Cost is a metric of interest these days.

fithisux··on Open-weights world models' parameter size doubles every ~6 months
True.
