fire··on Why don't more people use throat mics?
> If those don't provide enough isolation there are ENG dynamics that are designed to handle interviews in the middle of loud protests and such.

Do you have a link? "ENG dynamic microphone" doesn't bring anything useful up for me

fire··on Show HN: Blame.email – client-side one-way email generator
Legitimately would love this kind of thing integrated into my password manager (1password)

fire··on Redbean 2.0 turned into more than a hobby project
I find it more than a little amusing that we go from decrying an arbitrary database solution[1] to recommending one

1: ( which is likely to be maxmind's geoip DB in many cases anyway )

fire··on “Code” 2nd Edition
Is the microsoft press site actually decent? Is there anywhere else y'all would recommend picking this up from? Seems like Amazon doesn't offer a combination ebook+physical the way the microsoft site does.
fire··on Launch HN: Compose.ai (YC W21) – AI-powered extension to speed up email writing
I don't see it mentioned anywhere - can you add an Autocomplete Provider for android based on this so I can use it on my phone?

also really really not a fan of requiring a subscription just to look around the web app; Hard to see what it can do.

I'm presuming there's no confirmation on signup? It seems like signing up just refreshes the page, and I'm not seeing any email confirmation either.

Looks fun though! I hope I actually signed up.

The most dire offense is probably the information leak of internal processes (both programmatic and business)
fire··on Jabra denies support for Elite 85t Bluetooth earbuds on computers
> However, this statement about computers not being supported cannot be true. On the Jabra site for this product, it says: "no need to plug your headphones into your computer." It also has a picture of the product beside a Macbook. I've included screen shots of the product page that show these two points that clearly indicate computers are supported. I've heard this issue of the Elite 85h not being compatible with computers before from Jabra support, but it seems so implausible that Jabra would make bluetooth headphones that don't support computers, and equally implausible that they would mislead people into buying them on their site by suggesting that computers are supported if they are not.

Yeah, like... this is exactly how you get yourself sued, so if that's what they're hoping for...?

fire··on When I tell the Windows Terminal team something is simple, I am "misguided"

fire··on Ask HN: Are FAANG employees right for an early-stage startup?
> - used to working with incredible internal tooling

incredible is certainly one definition

fire··on YC-backed uBiome is basically Theranos-lite
I use onemedical because it's easy to find providers in my area with them but I recently got notified of a class action lawsuit against them for... misleading people into thinking they need a membership to use their facilities? I'm still confused on whether this means I actually need this membership in order to book appointments etc.

fire··on Samsung Sued by MPEG LA for Infringement of HEVC Essential Patents
Did they forget to renew their license or something? This is such a weird set of groups and subjects to see in a legal case

Isn't enhanced pointer precision on windows just mouse acceleration? Even stretching the definition, it's certainly not AI or AI-adjacent
fire··on Cybercriminals who breached Nvidia issue one of the most unusual demands ever
The parent is hinting at Central Bank Digital Currencies, which would in fact give them total control of their own money ( moreso than they have over the physical variant, I believe )
fire··on Cybercriminals who breached Nvidia issue one of the most unusual demands ever
That's if we're assuming they want to directly reproduce existing hardware - I imagine they'd actually leverage it as something their engineers can learn from for future advancement
fire··on Epic Games acquires Bandcamp
My immediate thought on this was that we could see in-engine asset stores promoting music from artists and potentially even having predefined contracts for easy of integration? Like, this could be a pretty good thing if it's handled properly
fire··on Show HN: Huemint – Machine learning for color design
I'd love to see this with more colors so I could generate syntax highlighting schemes with it :D

( the api caps out at 12 colors )

Is there a way to run this locally?
