finalfire··on League of Legends data scraping the hard and tedious way for fun
This is really something cool, and it is exactly what I was looking for. To give a context, I worked on some data science-inspired studies [1] about LoL, and the future research direction is to provide a formal modeling for the games and analyze them through it. While I had a little success by getting aggregated data from websites such as uol.gg, the granularity is not fine enough to do very interesting analysis.

finalfire··on Italian Music Through the Lens of Complex Networks
I have followed this guy for some years now, and he keeps doing marvelous stuff on complex networks and related analysis. I worked on the two parts of a similar idea regarding post-rock music; the first part became a Medium post [1], while I never finished the second one (although the idea is to publish it, I also do research on complex networks and their analysis).

finalfire··on A bird's eye view of Polars
I do love Polars, and I constantly use it (I'm a network scientist and usually work with a lot of data). However, it is beyond me why I cannot use it on a M1 Mac. As soon as I import it in python, the latter gets killed with "illegal hardware instruction".
finalfire··on The Third Wave (Experiment)
> Jones based the name of his movement on the supposed fact that the third in a series of waves is the strongest.

I cannot find any useful reference to this fact. Any pointer?

finalfire··on APL: An Array Oriented Programming Language (2018)
I always wondered how one can start learning APL or similar array oriented language. Any suggestions? I'd like to give it a try!
finalfire··on The true cost of linked lists
Question: is the first algorithm O(1) cause we treat INT_MAX as a constant, right?
finalfire··on Open source Business intelligence platform made with Python
Yep, I'm fully aware of that. I should have pointed it out, sorry. Indeed, I have an ingestion process which populates an PostgreSQL db from the csv

I'm looking into Superset in these days, so it's very nice to have found it here on HC.

I'm also looking for suggestions. A client of ours has a classic CSV representing sales data. I want to build a dashboard to make the visualization of the dataset easier for the client. I was looking both for Metabase and Superset. However, I don't really know if there are any other products out there which could help in this. I'm obviously referring to open source products which could be easily deployed, so I'm removing tools like Tableau or PowerBI from the list.

finalfire··on Ask HN: What does one look for in a laptop these days?
> Don't think that MacOS spares you about that either. Update notifications are equally distracting.

You're right but if I recall correctly notifications do not steal the focus.

finalfire··on OnlyFans drops planned porn ban
That's pretty right. In particular, there is a (huge) subreddit devoted to selfies where a high number of users that post in there have a OF link present in their biography.
finalfire··on Clever Algorithms: Nature-Inspired Programming Recipes
I'd love this book but unfortunately I can only address it as a starting point. It's good enough for a collection but it isn't a survey neither a complete book. I've worked a lot with evolution strategies and the starting point was this book although a bit limiting.
