fillskills··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (March 2025)
Would love to learn about this. I am building something similar for my family
fillskills··on Miles of Russian Forest Couldn't Keep These Two Tigers Apart
A tiger walked 100 miles in a straight line to find his mate... how did he know where she was? Nothing about that?

Separately, amazing work by scientists at the Wildlife Conservation Society

fillskills··on Rivian is opening its charging network to other EVs
Very popular in Asian countries maybe because the EVs there are much smaller such as bikes
fillskills··on Show HN: Rill – Composable concurrency toolkit for Go
Very intuitive API. Thanks!
fillskills··on Llama 3.1 405B now runs at 969 tokens/s on Cerebras Inference
No mention of their direct competitor Groq?
fillskills··on Wiby – Search Engine for the Classic Web
Really cool project! How did you get rid of all the noise? (SEO optimized garbage, Ads masquerading as blogs etc)
fillskills··on Forbes Marketplace: The Parasite SEO Company Trying to Devour Its Host
Google team has long given up its user’s needs for incremental revenue goals. See the 10 ads that come before any result
fillskills··on Butterflies flew 2,600 miles across the Atlantic without stopping
How is this possible? I cant even walk 10 miles without needing food. Where did the butterflies store their energy? So many questions...

Amazing if true.

fillskills··on OpenAI and Elon Musk
This is going to come across as contrarian view and get a lot of downvotes - OpenAI is being 'open'. Not Open Source, but Open. They are bringing AGI tech to the common person at affordable pricing. Before OpenAI, all the AI and its use cases were hidden behind closed doors at Google. By kickstarting the AI race, they have created high standards, new knowledge, and enough momentum to hold up the entire startup ecosystem and the US economy. They make hard choices and now the entire industry is moving forward because of their choices.
fillskills··on The killer app of Gemini Pro 1.5 is using video as an input
Unless its open sourced :)
fillskills··on Ollama releases Python and JavaScript Libraries
Why would anyone downvote this? There is nothing against HN rules and the comment itself is adding new and relevant information.
fillskills··on Ask HN: 9-yo son wants to build a game, I'm lost. What can I do?
Have you tried Make it by tldraw? Its free and fun! Here is a good example: https://twitter.com/tldraw/status/1746265563368710345
fillskills··on Rabbit: LLM-First Mobile Phone
THIS - pricing and security/privacy. Specially #1,2,3. Saying this despite ordering one. There is definitely a lot of scope to this new way to interacting. Really hoping these get addressed soon.
fillskills··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
For fans of Bluey, I would highly recommend a similarly positive Puffin Rock: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puffin_Rock

It shows about a kid bird and her younger sibling exploring their island. It has supportive parents. Themes in the show are exploration, family ties, friendships, problem solving, independence etc.

fillskills··on Don't build AI products the way everyone else is doing it
This. Avoid the “If have hammer, everything looks like a nail” strategy. Find a customer pain point and use the right blend of tools. You can also make a new tool where tools dont exist

fillskills··on Ask HN: What are you passionate about at the moment?

fillskills··on Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses
Pretty inconspicuous. So no, not a great feature to stream/live upload people who didnt want their privacy violated.
fillskills··on Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses
Really shocked by the lack of controls around privacy. Its absolutely crazy that someone can now be filming my family members with a very inconspicuous device. On top of that it could be streaming or uploading live! Where is the outrage?!?! Am I missing something?
fillskills··on The SR-71 Blackbird Astro-Nav System worked by tracking the stars
Had the plane as a wall to wall poster as a kid. And now finding out its next door! Super excited.
fillskills··on FAA authorizes Zipline to deliver commercial packages using drones
Came here to post this. Its one of the most amazing videos for me : combines medicine, engineering, entrepreneurship and flying!!

Look forward to more of their successes.

fillskills··on Ask HN: I’m an FCC Commissioner proposing regulation of IoT security updates
+1 for having a bare minimum requirements for IOT sellers against some standard testing criteria. Raise the bar but

Possibly another important would be NHTSA gathers and publishes numbers on accidents. Having some regularly published numbers would certainly shine more light and is probably lowest hurdle to cross from a political standpoint.

fillskills··on Apple's game porting toolkit is fantastic. Cyberpunk 2077 at Ultra on an M1 MBP
That would be wonderful!
fillskills··on How we learned that bees can tell time (2021)
Amazing how amazing other animals are. For example if you have a dog you know how well they can keep time. You feed them at a time twice and they will be ready at the same time next day. Same for outdoor trips, baths, naps etc.
fillskills··on Ask HN: Who got hired from HN?
Yes please!
fillskills··on Simple exercise to eliminate gastroesophageal reflux (2022)
Taking Mint, in form of raw washed leaves, in tea form or even in capsule form (pudin hara) has greatly reduced my acid reflux. Might be worth trying.

Strength: Capsule > Leaves > Mint tea

Usually we eat the raw leaves. They are tasty! You can make a salad out of it.

At night drink some mint tea.

And in emergency take a capsule.

No experience with this actual Money Market Fund account announcement
