fillskills··on New $100k H-1B visa fee pushes tech jobs offshore
O1 is also starting to get "gamed".
fillskills··on New $100k H-1B visa fee pushes tech jobs offshore
Looks like there is need for 2 separate visa categories: - One to bring top 0.1% talent from across the globe to the US - Another to bring in temporary talent as needed

Current version of H1B had become a big basket to hold both, and abused too for just finding cheaper labor. It may be time to segment these out.

Also, given that US has ~400 million local citizens, there should be less need for either.

fillskills··on Launch HN: Screenpipe (YC S26) – Record how you work and turn that into agents
AI-buddies is now a year old idea and now many other harnesses like Hermes, OpenClaw have most of the same functionality.

Main concept of AI-buddies is to quickly spin up "buddies" who have varying personalities and feel like a real person. Just like real people buddies can talk to each other, share information and have very different functions in your life. For ex a Gym buddy is very different from a "mom" buddy or a Math prof buddy.

Main difference that they are easier to set up for non technical users, and that they can gather input from other real people (for example, if allowed, a Tax buddy can get input from your accountant).

fillskills··on Launch HN: Screenpipe (YC S26) – Record how you work and turn that into agents
Been a user of Screenpipe to build some "Ai-buddies" for me since last year. Core of that is giving AI a look at what is happening in time space. Without Screenpipe this was rather hard to do at the performance screenpipe gives.

+1 to Empire Podcast. They have excellent series on a bunch of empires (well researched with references). Its one of those light, informative, non-boring podcasts: - The British Empire & The Raj - The Ottoman Empire - The Russian Empire - The United States as an Empire etc

fillskills··on MiMo-v2.5-Pro-UltraSpeed: 1T model with 1000 tokens per second
Issue for any country that is not China. A single country getting the most AI tokens business would be generally bad for global economy. Hoping against hope that this business gets globally distributed and there is a healthy marketplace competition overall

fillskills··on YC's Biggest Scandals
Some of these don't seem like "YC scandals": - Zenefits: A non-YC company put a spy in Zenefits. - Pebble: Still loved by many, just had black swan event of Apple launching a better product - Cruise: Looks very much like a GM issue.
fillskills··on Show HN: AI CAD Harness
Could be camera and canvas to CAD - be more apt for your use case? Something akin to minority report + AI?

Asking seriously.

Context: Have some overlapping interest in the space because I am prototyping a camera based edge device that allows for AR/AI interactions.

fillskills··on Ask HN: How to be alone?
A few things that have helped me in the past are: - Find small wins. Don't expect big changes immediately. Small wins accumulate over time. Examples: say hi to neighbors, go to a gym, work from a coffee shop etc. - Join a coworking space. This was a huge help personally. It still took more than a few months but this changed my life.

Hope these help a bit!

fillskills··on Efficient method to capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere
There are 4 different categories of fixing the global CO2 challenge: a. Remove CO2 from atmosphere b. Prevent adding new CO2 from reaching atmosphere

This could also be a good use case for #b where CO2 is captured before being released to the atmosphere. For example factories and vehicles could be mandated to use this.

fillskills··on Oxford loses top 3 university ranking in the UK
While your link is helpful, he did not say that. He specifically mentions changing the admissions standards. Specifically having different standards for different social classes.

I have second handedly seen the effects of such discrimination in other societies and it really is crippling to the economy. Be wary of any kind of discrimination specifically one that lowers expected grades.

fillskills··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025)
A TV-TV video calling system (raspberry PI + off shelf camera and mic). Idea is have a more immersive experience where you can talk to entire family instead of just a persons face (or parts of face in the hands of my parents or kid). Next stage is to add games to the calls. Have some games already prototyped with good feedback from kids.

Still thinking of how, what and when to open source.
