If you're using Firefox, check out the containers extension as well. You can isolate sessions or specific websites without worrying about clearing cookies and history. It's not perfect in terms of usability but is a great advancement for plugging privacy leaks
fhbdukfrh··on Show HN: Applying for jobs? Manage all your interviews in one place
If I'm a customer in a domain where these are concerns though, each question you make me ask during my evaluation is a chance for me to quit doing the work and move on to something else that's less effort, like the competing product that pushes their security and privacy policies upfront as a product benefit.

So don't ask me to pull myself through your sales funnel, make the process easy by addressing my major concerns before i need to ask.

Is that really a killer feature though? Seems more like a series of conversations with those important people in your life vs. Some sort of optimization algorithm.

And rather than have competition destroy your idea, take it as one data point towards validation.

That's a little simplistic. The state of the carbon is incredibly important - keeping it locked in a tree, ice or the ground instead of floating around in the atmosphere is kind of the entire goal.

Heating with wood unlocks all that essentially inert carbon into wide spread particulate, so it's no more carbon neutral than burning coal you collect by hand. You're also depleting the carbon absorption side by harvesting the tree

Unfortunately(and it's truly unsexy science) not much compared to twenty years of unmanned space exploration.

Everyone loves the idea of humans in space, but we learn so much more from robots and computers it makes the manned programs such a waste...

fhbdukfrh··on CEO’s Plan to Save Sears Would Hand His Hedge Fund $1B
Indeed it's hard to stay on top, but missing the internet killed them, so i wouldn't go so far as forgiving them.

They had the better part of 20 years to adjust to the new reality but just kept plugging along with dirty, inefficient retail stores poorly stocked and staffed.

How could the same company that sold mail order houses a 100 years ago look at selling over the internet in the late 1990's and say "nah, it will never work - it's just too crazy"?

You're right; the sears catalog was the biggest, most efficient store on the analog internet and they absolutely killed the competition in supply chain and efficiency.

Toys r us it's another company that was well positioned to dominate but never took advantage of their competitive advantage

fhbdukfrh··on After Five Years of Living in Trees, a Protest Community Is Being Evicted
Well for me it's because i care about the environment but have no interest in a dumpster-dived vegan diet.

And since i live in a detached home and own 2 cars"environmentalists" don't want me in their tribe.

When you're labeled you get the entire reputation of the group, and the group gets all the attributes of its members. That makes broad labels either a tough sell or pretty meaningless.

Well in western Canada we quite often clear cut blocks of forest for lumber, and based on European perspectives it probably looks like an entire forest, but there are a few considerations:

It's almost always younger trees (-100 years old) and often second growth (not taking old growth coastal trees)

It's pretty tightly regulated in terms of ecosystem impact, sensitive locations, buffers, though lots of people disagree with what should be acceptable

They understand it's in their own self interest to replant, as some of these companies are harvesting planted trees already.

It's definitely not perfect, but on the whole is sustainable, and in some cases like our recent insect infestation (mostly caused by aggressive fire suppression) the preferable method to limited scale thinning

You're joking right? FB has over 25 thousand employees and you think 20 people is a significant reorientation effort? Or that a team any larger would have problems a scaling?
