felixhummel··on Living human brain cells play DOOM on a CL1 [video]
The anime Psycho-Pass comes to mind.
felixhummel··on People with blindness can read again after retinal implant and special glasses
They should call it Kiroshi. ;) For real though: The cyberpunk dystopia of hackable [1] eye gear is something to think and talk about.

felixhummel··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2025)
Reminds me of https://github.com/arguman/arguman.org
felixhummel··on Let's properly analyze an AI article for once

felixhummel··on Generate audiobooks from E-books with Kokoro-82M
I wholeheartedly agree. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Briggs got me hooked on Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. I loved "Going Postal".
felixhummel··on "Rules" that terminal programs follow
I'd add "long-running processes should reload their configuration on SIGHUP". :)

felixhummel··on Show HN: Clace – Application Server with support for scaling down to zero
The client cert based auth would be for the app access.

Our use-case is review apps, i.e. <some-feature>.example.com should only be accessible by users with a valid client cert. Currently we use Caddy, but I'd like to give clace a shot for this. :)

felixhummel··on Show HN: Clace – Application Server with support for scaling down to zero
I like the idea and congratulations on good docs.

Two questions:

1. Do you support client certificates for authenticating clients? 2. Do you have some performance benchmarks?

felixhummel··on I kind of like rebasing

Hi Felix,

I like it. Thank you for building this! Does it support MIDI as input?

Best, Felix ;)

felixhummel··on Lcl.host: fast, easy HTTPS in your local dev environment
We built something similar for docker-compose based projects: https://gitlab.com/hukudo/ingress
felixhummel··on Ask HN: How is AWS OpenSearch vs. Elasticsearch playing out?
I'm wondering the same.

Here's a link to a "pro" argument from 6 months ago:

Edit:

A high-level overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62u30TO-OsA

Currently I lean towards Elasticsearch, because it fits our use cases better than OpenSearch.

felixhummel··on Yandex open sourced it's BI tool DataLens
Apache 2.0 licensed (from a cursory glance at the first few repos).
felixhummel··on Advanced Python Mastery
If there is no library for your case like pandas (or even csv.DictReader), you could always use an iterator:

    def iter_portfolio(rows):
         for row in rows:
             yield {'name': row[0]}

    rows = ...
    portfolio = list(iter_portfolio(rows))
felixhummel··on Ask HN: Could you share your personal blog here?

Both made with ablog for Sphinx using myst parser.

felixhummel··on Launch HN: Pynecone (YC W23) – Web Apps in Pure Python
Nice product! I'd be interested to see what it looks like to integrate an old-school style JS "component" like LeafletJS, especially with a plugin like this: https://github.com/Leaflet/Leaflet.markercluster
felixhummel··on Ask HN: Advice from people who strength train from home
Our goals seem very alike, so I'd recommend this Book:

You Are Your Own Gym: The Bible of Bodyweight Exercises -- Mark Lauren

I actually read its German translation (AFAICT) called "Fit ohne Geräte".

The book starts with some useful insights about basic motivation and eating habits.

Following its training program I went from slightly overweight to "normal" / slightly muscular. I'm in my late 30s and can do all sorts of sports. Lifting my girlfriend comes easy.

Bonus points: First bodyweight training means that you need no extra gear and second there is little time investment of ~40m per day on 4 days a week.

Hope this helps. :)

felixhummel··on Web automation: Don't use Selenium, use Playwright
Using TLS client certificates automatically is still not possible in Playwright [1]. That's our main reason why we keep using Selenium (with pytest-selenium) and Selenium Grid [2].

felixhummel··on Show HN: Redo – Command line utility for quickly creating shell functions
My workflow looks like this:

hack hack, then run

    nuscript-bash something
Hit C-x C-h, select some lines, edit, then run

    something
To do maintenance:

    edcom something
I wrote a little more about it here: https://blag.felixhummel.de/basics/bash/wrapper-scripts.html
felixhummel··on Show HN: I wrote an entire book to build a mouseless dev environment
Your video was a little too long for my taste. You maybe could create a shorter video showing the full speed of productivity gained by getting rid of the mouse. I imagine some workflow every programmer does all the time:

- read code - check docs - write code - test and look at logs

I use the keyboard for 80% of my work and regularly people (including devs) are in awe of the speed of my movements. I would even go so far and say that it improves Flow (psychology) by reducing mental overhead (muscle memory).

Best wishes! :)

Looks interesting. I'll try to break it with the complexity of a medium-sized project next year.

felixhummel··on Show HN: Making Python one-liner-fit with the new pwk (Python With Kurly braces)

felixhummel··on A startup is building computer chips using real neurons
This reminds me of the anime Psycho Pass. I would recommend it to anyone who is fascinated by this kind of tech and likes to watch dystopia.
felixhummel··on Unix as IDE (2012)
If you like inotify, you might also like entr [1].

I only found out about it few days ago, but it seems nice so far.

Here's what I use to keep SSH connections open for 4 hours: https://blag.felixhummel.de/apps/ssh.html#config

It took a while to find out that `Host *` should be at the end of the file if you want to override things.

The same thing happened to me. I like the idea though. Maybe have a look at Sentry, so you can surface Javascript errors and messages.

Along the same lines - use doctests maybe?
