fearmerchant··on Tesla takes on $30B in credit as it approaches unprofitability
An electric truck the size (and look for that matter) of the Hyundai Santa Cruz would be a lot more practical for most folks imo.
fearmerchant··on New Cyber-OSINT model released
You might consider making a sock puppet account for these situations instead of constantly relying on everyone else.
fearmerchant··on Sonnet 5.5
It could be a Linux vs Mac/Win situation though. Sure the HN crowd will build their own harnesses and hook up cheaper models but the average Joe Sixpack wants something that "just works" out of box and the frontier labs seems well positioned to give that to them.
fearmerchant··on Grok 4.7
> The prose is just weird.

Agreed. Do you think it's due to that EU issue of making AI text be identifiable?

fearmerchant··on Ask HN: Are 80s high school hobby programmers overwhelmingly pro-AI?
I first started with a TI/994a and I like AI. Programming is not my job, and never has been. Is that all you're asking?
fearmerchant··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
The gate is green
fearmerchant··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
I've mentioned this before, but it reminds me of Oswald Bates from In Living Color:

fearmerchant··on Engineered yeast for converting plastic and biomass compounds to food additives
The USA is food self sufficient if your definition is having enough calories to survive.
fearmerchant··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
I don't follow presidential administrations closely. What's the "often illegal" bit you mentioned?
fearmerchant··on Twitter Viewer – View Twitter Without Account
I don't understand the issue. Am I the only person with a fake account, using a throw away email and fake information? It doesn't have to be this complicated. It's the internet. You can lie.
fearmerchant··on CEO fired developers to make room for AI. Developers create open source AI CEO
I'd argue that those CEO-type (leadership) positions are a lot about relationships which AI's aren't going to be able to replicate.
fearmerchant··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
You're right but I think you're running into the emotional side of the issue for some folks. The "not coming back" angle is a feature not a bug. Saves having to track folks down, potentially detain them, etc.
fearmerchant··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
You're assuming I used my own information. It's the internet. You can lie.
fearmerchant··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
I have an account and I paid zero for it. Are we talking about the same thing?
fearmerchant··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
Newspapers are still often required to be used for certain government publications and they cost money. TwitterX is free. I'm not clear what the controversy here is exactly.
fearmerchant··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
I'm going to buy one to watch youtube videos and surf social media.
fearmerchant··on New Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra
The way the Apple M-series does ram that might be difficult to pull off.
fearmerchant··on Rural Village in Spain Is Welcoming Digital Nomads with Open Arms
Women are the ones making money on it. At least some are. Then there's a long tail that don't.
fearmerchant··on Vomit: Clean up Claude 5's token output with a separate LLM
Is this because they changed the word probabilities to allow for identifying AI text? If so, I don't need a computer to tell me when something is AI. It's crazy obvious from odd word choices.
fearmerchant··on California's new tire efficiency rules could save drivers $1B a year
You're gonna want SPF 50 in Alaska too.
fearmerchant··on Field measurements of neighborhood-scale air temperature impacts of data centers
... and solar panels.

fearmerchant··on People are worried about America's solvency
You can't get elected being the party that pulls away the punch bowl.
fearmerchant··on The Median Voter Is a Maoist
They do, what makes you think they don't?
fearmerchant··on Flock wanted to tap dashcams in rideshare vechicles to add to surveillance data
What right are you referring to? We don't have a right to privacy on a public roadway. My Tesla is filming you.
fearmerchant··on Gerrymandering won. It's time to change the rules
That's true, good point. It's probably much more effective.
fearmerchant··on Jason Arday, ex-Cambridge professor at centre of plagiarism row, found dead
Man I wish I was asking this question. Imagine how blissful life would be not to have wasted precious synaptic energy learning this topic.
fearmerchant··on GLM-5.3: Frontier coding with emergent cyber capabilities
If the margins are there it will get sorted.
fearmerchant··on Gerrymandering won. It's time to change the rules
It's strange to see articles like this when we've had Gerrymandering for as long as the word has existed. SCOTUS simply left it alone.
fearmerchant··on Flock wanted to tap dashcams in rideshare vechicles to add to surveillance data
For an Amber Alert that could be really helpful.
fearmerchant··on The “mechanical miracle” that ruined Mark Twain’s life
He was a writer, he should have stayed in his lane.
