favadi··on The new and upgraded Framework Laptop
Do you have any problem with resolution, screen scaling? I think it requires 1.5x scaling, which often cause screen tearing and artifacts on Linux.
favadi··on The new and upgraded Framework Laptop
Sadly, Linux doesn't support fractional scaling properly. This is a show stopper for me.
favadi··on I fixed my broken monitor with a hair dryer
I fixed mine with duck tape: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FLIl30yVcAQcKw2?format=jpg&name=....
favadi··on Buffereditor – Code and Text Editor for iPhone, iPad and iPad Pro
I even struggle with typing short SMS messages. I can't imagine writing anything useful with a touchscreen keyboard.
favadi··on GitHub Broken Download URLs
I still remember the night when logrus's author decided to rename his Github account and broke our production build (https://github.com/sirupsen/logrus/pull/384). Since then, I always vendor third party dependencies.
favadi··on The fish shell is amazing
It sounds like oh-my-zsh issue, not Zsh.
favadi··on The Walkman a.k.a. Vbug 1.5 robot
Very cool! I wonder how much effort is needed if I want to build one myself. All I have is some soldering skills.
favadi··on Ask HN: Favorite purchases of last two years?
I still use my Kindle paper white from 2013 daily. The battery life is pretty bad now, but otherwise, I'm very happy with it and see no reason to update.

TIL P2000 and USP have identical stats. Somehow I alway feel USP is more accurate to P2000.
favadi··on Ubuntu 21.04
No, I guess Ubuntu will just boot to X11 on a system that Wayland is unsupported.
favadi··on Soviet children’s books became collectors’ items in India
In Vietnam, at one time, there was a very popular Russian children book called "Old Man Khottabych". Aside from the typical communist teachings and propaganda, the plot is actually interesting and the book is a lot of fun to read.
favadi··on System76 Developing “Cosmic” Desktop Environment
I don’t get the love for iTerm2. I tried it before and see nothing appealing for me over the built in Terminap.app. And it seems to be slower too.

On Linux, I just use whatever ship with the distro Gnome Terminal, Konsole... and they work fine.

favadi··on uBlock Origin works best on Firefox
> Upon install, FF installs a scheduled service that runs daily. From what I've found out, that service is sending back to Mozilla what your default browser is on YOUR PC (why is that their business). This scheduled service remains on your PC even after uninstalling Firefox and continues to run daily.

This is shocking to me. More information, if anyone is not aware yet: https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/toolkit/mozapps/defa....

> The Default Browser Agent is a Windows-only scheduled task which runs in the background to collect and submit data about the browser that the user has set as their OS default (that is, the browser that will be invoked by the operating system to open web links that the user clicks on in other programs).

favadi··on Thunderbird 78.x is great but has issues for advanced PGP users
Does that mean Debian developers patch Thunderbird to remove the new GPG implementation?
favadi··on Brave Browser Passes 20M Monthly Active Users and 7M Daily Active Users
Web 3.0 is probably meant bundled metamask plugin.
favadi··on Switching from Vim to Intellij
In the end, they are both tools developers use to write codes. I don't see why they can't be compared to each other.
favadi··on Django 3.1
You only know python.
favadi··on Wiki.js
For personal wiki, nothing beats the simplicity of tiddlywiki.
favadi··on Linux Touchpad Like a MacBook update: progress on multitouch
Ubuntu, as of 20.04, is using X by default.
favadi··on The VS Code Go extension joins the Go project
> The VS Code extension for Go, built using many of these tools, is now used by 41 percent of Go developers

That's impressive, I didn't realize VS Code is that popular nowadays.

favadi··on My 2020 desk setup
> A 5k display with 200% scaling at 27" would help the situation, but we don't have that option.

I'm reading this thread using the LG 5K monitor with Linux, mostly working fine.

favadi··on Disabling Snaps in Ubuntu 20.04
I don't understand the need to remove it, if you don't like snap, just ignore it and don't install anything from it. There is no harm keeping them instlaled, right?
favadi··on Technical reasons to choose FreeBSD over GNU/Linux
I know some developers use Gentoo with OpenRC for their daily work machines.
favadi··on ThinkPad T480 is my new main laptop which runs FreeBSD
Fedora 29 works great with T480 though.
favadi··on MacBook 16-inch Fan Noise (2019)
That sounds like your laptop has a defected battery.
favadi··on Is Catalina a Good Upgrade Yet?
On Ubuntu, I still have to do Alt + F2, restart every few days to reset the graphical glitch.
favadi··on Go's Tooling Is an Undervalued Technology
I learned to always wrap the code with `if false {}` instead of commenting them out because of this very reason.
favadi··on LastPass stores passwords so securely, not even its users can access them
MFA is working fine for me with Firefox on both Ubuntu and Fedora.
favadi··on Chrome 77 Breaking Drag and Drop Events
Which rule they violated?
favadi··on Emacs 26.3
