fatih-erikli··on Bring back private offices
> People dedicated to working at home haven't worked in a good office.

I agree.

> The main thing was that we together were shaping the product; if you convinced others, you could have an impact. And to convince others, you needed to do your homework (in your office).

This is not. Shaping a product is not a collaborative work. Thus, product is something different, we talk about the real work environment.

> So it's not really the office or the desk but the rhythm of coming up with an idea and seeing it take root in your peers (or not) -- the opportunity to contribute.

This is another not. Office has nothing to do with that topic.

> Nowadays, it's open desks or cubes and product managers, and any collective discussion is shot through with politics. When initiative is squelched and mutual respect is replaced by influence, the only thing to maximize is slack -- which makes working from home the absolute best.

This is office chatting. Product development is done inside the computer. You don't need an office for that.

fatih-erikli··on Bring back private offices
Obviously you worked in someone elses desktop wallpaper that they call you an "office". Real working places exist, they are different than what you describe.
fatih-erikli··on Ask HN: Anybody knows why do (0, 0, 1) evaluate to 1 in JavaScript?
Thanks for the link.
fatih-erikli··on The New Essential Guide to Electronics in Shenzhen
Somewhere around Black sea.
fatih-erikli··on The New Essential Guide to Electronics in Shenzhen
They look pretty much the same with what I see when I visit the nearest highest peak in the place I live. Not convinced, not trolling, I am trying to ask fair questions.
fatih-erikli··on The New Essential Guide to Electronics in Shenzhen
I don't know, that's what I am asking. For instance, In Norway, you see Fjords, Nordic houses, dark colored sea. In Germany, you see technical museums, abandoned railways, airports. I am expecting that kind of things that make me not regret spending money.
fatih-erikli··on The New Essential Guide to Electronics in Shenzhen
It's me asked these questions then deleted later assuming that there won't be a satisfying answer. My assumption was correct, there is nothing China offers to their visitors by reading your answer.
fatih-erikli··on The New Essential Guide to Electronics in Shenzhen
I don't mind. People can go wherever they want. These are opinions. My opinion is traveling is overrated. Not only me though, world health organization thinks the same.
fatih-erikli··on I will always prefer to work from home
Maybe you don't need to talk to people all day at work if you could do your work without talking to them all day long during WFH. Work places must be quite, it's not for chatting with others.

If you are bored of office, you take a leave or you quit the work, problem solved. If you are bored of work at home, there's no place you go.

fatih-erikli··on I will always prefer to work from home
I always felt like work from home is an extension of slacking in an open office plan. Work means a lot more than sending keystrokes to the computer. There are labor laws, information safety guidelines, tons of things you can't do at home alone by yourself. How can you be sure that your neighbor is not creating something competitive to the product you work on?
fatih-erikli··on Build a Lightweight Code Generator with TypeScript and JSON Imports
> That structure is likely to change during the lifetime of your software.

I don't understand this sentence. If the structure is going to change over the time, it means you will need to regenerate the whole system, plus you will apply the changes that you made on the generated code to the newest generated version. So it isn't a valid case for generating code.

fatih-erikli··on How Bear does analytics with CSS
This is known as "pixel tracker" for decades.
fatih-erikli··on What every developer should know about GPU computing
Makes sense.
fatih-erikli··on What every developer should know about GPU computing
I think GPU computing should not be done in application layer. It's way too low-level.
fatih-erikli··on Being picky about a CSS reset for fun
Once upon a time an interviewer in a job application that I participated was expressed his disappointment when he see that I didn't use css reset in the challenge they sent to me. I'm glad he is disappointed. I feel irritated when the people in tech so picky about the things that has an answer "hmm, yes, probably we should use", "lets not use, not worth it in this case". There was 2 html tags and an svg graph something like that in the page. I suspect he wasn't a tech person either, he was probably reading a google docs about how to interview fe person.

I personally don't use reset css and my web pages look ok. There are so many web pages that doesn't use reset css, they look ok.

I also don't like when people are being picky about things for fun. This is a job that people take seriously.

fatih-erikli··on Signtime.apple: One-on-one sign language interpreting by Apple
Yup, shame on me
fatih-erikli··on Signtime.apple: One-on-one sign language interpreting by Apple
It always feels like my router page filled with javascript by my ISP when I visit a domain doesn't end with regular tlds. Is apple domain really belongs to apple? Nobody is questioning that, what a shame for hn users.

Edit, it seems legit: https://support.apple.com/en-us/101572

fatih-erikli··on IT student has to pay fine of 1500€ for calling Germany "dirty state" on Twitter
I like what germans do. False accusations must have a price to be paid.
fatih-erikli··on IT student has to pay fine of 1500€ for calling Germany "dirty state" on Twitter
Being "dirty" is so subjective to the person who claim somewhere/something is dirty. Public spaces in Germany probably much more cleaner than student households this is for sure.
fatih-erikli··on Anything longer ago than yesterday should just say the actual date
Agree, when they are archived like in (google or web.archive.org), they will be relative to the indexing date if the label isn't calculated in client side, probably the javascript won't be working well in archive though.

Plus, consider using time tag, datetime attribute for displaying dates in a more accessible way. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/ti... It's not so much different than a span tag in browsers yet, but why not making out webpages future compatible.

fatih-erikli··on PostgresJs: PostgreSQL client for Node.js and Deno
I like the idea of using tagged templates for sanitizing sql query inputs. Kudos
fatih-erikli··on Ask HN: Is it only me or everyone feeling flu when seeing an AI picture?
I pay the content I find useful. "Something looks good" isn't enough to pay.
fatih-erikli··on You can buy teeth online
Reminds me a Vikingane (Norseman) scene. Best comedy I watched in 2010s
fatih-erikli··on A real-time 3D digital map of Tokyo's public transport system
Great! I wanted to make the same for Istanbul for years but never got a chance spend time on it. It is a perfect example of visualizing time series data. Makes me want to move to Tokyo.

My question: Do you fetch the routes somewhere or you simulate the trip start-end times?

fatih-erikli··on Ask HN: Is it only me or everyone feeling flu when seeing an AI picture?
Maybe disorientation. Difficult to describe. It may be because of my perfectionist necessities. AI images look poor. My eyes deserve better. An image is a piece of money. If it's worth to see, I would like to download and pay for that. Otherwise I prefer text.
fatih-erikli··on Thousands of young people are fleeing Toronto – economists say city will suffer
- Spending money for language course

- You do not know the places for cheap prices

- Being a target for tourist scams

many other hidden costs I forgot to say

fatih-erikli··on Thousands of young people are fleeing Toronto – economists say city will suffer
I think it's much more expensive to be a migrant. You do know how to live cheaper in your native country. It's difficult for a foreigner to learn those later.
fatih-erikli··on Thousands of young people are fleeing Toronto – economists say city will suffer
Question is where do they go and will they find a better place than Toronto. I haven't been there, however it looks like a reasonable place to live. There is everything a young person would want. Everyone is fleeing everywhere then they don't find what they were looking for then they flee back.

As a person living in the border of middle east, Toronto is a place that people would like to migrate.

fatih-erikli··on Why I can no longer recommend a Mac to fellow blind computer users
This is correct. Apple is first when it comes to accessibility. However accessibility isn't invented for the blind.
fatih-erikli··on Ask HN: Is it only me or everyone feeling flu when seeing an AI picture?
Sickness, not physically, something similar to motion sickness or the feeling of sickness when you're on boat.
