On win 10 there used to be a button to create a local account, but they removed it and made it so you had to disconnect from WiFi to get to that screen. Then they changed it to make it so that you have to disconnect from WiFi AND run some arcane terminal command. At this point your average user is just going to use an online Microsoft account. What an atrocious user experience
If law enforcement actually did their jobs, this would be more understandable. I don’t know about you or others’ experiences, but when I’ve called the police to report a crime (e.g. someone casually smashing car windows at 3p in the afternoon and stealing anything that isn’t bolted down), they never show up and usually just tell me to file a police report which of course never gets actioned. Seems pretty obvious to me that weakening encryption/opsec to “let the good guys in” is total nonsense and that there are blatant ulterior motives at play. To be clear I’m a strong proponent of good security practices and end to end encryption
As someone who enjoys RPG games with a lot of collectibles, Terraria’s “Quick stack to nearby chests” comes to mind. For those who haven’t played Terraria, here’s how this works: you stand in your base next to chests you’ve stored your loot in, click a button in your inventory window, and any items in your inventory which already exist in nearby chests get automatically sent to the appropriate chest. It’s a small feature, but huge in terms of QoL/time savings, especially if you’re like me and hoard everything you find
No, I never said anywhere that chrome should be used. As a matter of fact, I use Firefox myself. My original observation was that Mozilla presents itself as a benevolent non-profit yet behaves like soulless for-profit tech company, abandoning valuable FOSS initiatives and carelessly laying off employees, all while increasing executive pay
IMO it’s a matter of principle. Mozilla is supposed to be a non-profit that exists to support the development of a FOSS browser and its related projects. Over the years it seems like they’ve strayed from this mission, behaving more and more like the big corporations they claim not to be like
Doesn’t this depend on the game engine you use? I’m not a professional video game dev but I’ve dabbled with Godot on non-windows OSes and didn’t find it to be a terrible experience
Not OP but I use OVH which is better value and more reliable. OVH VPS’s also include unlimited bandwidth, by comparison hetzner imposes data caps and will nickel and dime you on just about everything. I run a few bandwidth heavy applications that do 10-20tb of traffic a month. If I was using hetzner I’d effectively be flushing cash down the drain
I use OVH (VPS’s specifically), which offers unlimited bandwidth. In my experience they’ve been both reliable and affordable which is a rarity. I run a few applications that require high amounts of bandwidth, so silly caps like the ones that Hetzner are imposing are a non-starter for me
Assuming these are for jobs I’ve left, I’m using Fidelity rollover IRAs, with 100% of the funds in FZROX. It has performed amazingly over the years. I would describe it as the lazy man’s yolo
That’s what I do: VTSAX and chill. I set it and forget it and it has performed very well for me over the years. Also worth noting most institutional investors struggle to outperform this fund over extended periods of time
Yeah that part has always been weird. I will say that it works wonderfully, especially if you need to install windows from a usb but only have computers running Linux/Mac available
I have this problem all the time, so I wrote a simple web app to handle file transfers between computers on my local network: https://github.com/fastily/dumb-file-drop
I made the switch from Win 10 to Ubuntu 22.04 for gaming about a year ago. I play mostly 2D games on Steam and have had zero issues. Anecdotal of course, but most titles I've tried recently either have a native Linux build or work perfectly on Proton (e.g. Stardew Valley, Starbound, Terraria, Core Keeper, Aground, Cryofall, Bejeweled 3)
sort of an automation, but I install all my favorite apps with brew and then use brew again (brew upgrade && brew upgrade --cask -g) to update everything
I'm pretty sure mas-cli [https://github.com/mas-cli/mas] is abandonware. It hasn't received any meaningful updates in almost 2 years and most of its features are broken
