fara··on Google launches Hire, a new service for helping businesses recruit
If you are not comfortable using Google products, we are currently using Pipedrive to mange the Recruiting pipeline and has proven to be great. Haven't tried Hire but seems to be about the same. With Pipedrive you can customize your process, setup reminders that integrate with your Google calendar, search for old canditates, use the budget field for salary, forward emails to keep the history log, add custom fields, etc. They wrote a blog post about this with some hints https://blog.pipedrive.com/2014/06/how-to-use-pipedrive-for-...
fara··on Poll: Were you banned by AdSense? When in the cycle were you notified?
I use AdMob for a mobile game I made. After successfully using it for years I got a notice that Google had bought the company and that my account would now be an AdSense account. I started earning money there and when I reached the 100usd amount, with no explanation at all I got banned. I filled up contact forms but not reason was given to me. They just said that I was not going to have my money since it was going to be refunded to advertisers. After a while, for some strange reason my account was luckily reverted to a classic AdMob account and now I'm back again getting my money through PayPal. I'm really disappointed on Google support on this matter, there are no email addresses or real people to talk to. Amazon and even DX have given me better customer support for 2usd items.

fara··on Python Cheat Sheet
I like it a lot and looks very handy. But the author seems to be missing the point of a cheat sheet. I'd prefer something I can post on my desk to take a quick look, a 6 page summary is not a cheat sheet nor it's faster than googling.
fara··on Should You Do A Startup? I Have No Idea
Should you? Indextank was a great product, but the exit was to work for the big boss again.
fara··on Why Software Development Estimations Are Regularly Off
Estimations are regulary off cause they are just estimations, not futurology. And even if they are accurate is hard to know if that's due to a good estimate or because of Parkinson's law.

I'd like to hear some thoughts on how to improve those estimations rather that explaining why it is hard as Brooks did on MMM.

fara··on A better way to read HN on the iPad - Happy Thanksgiving From Onswipe
Why would you forbid other clients than iPad to browse into your site? I think you should warn the user that it may not be optimized but let the user in. It's irritating, the web should be open.
fara··on (Android) Developer Income Report #14
Thanks for sharnig. What Ad platform do you use? AdMob? Have you tryed other alternatives?
fara··on Show HN: Check out the 23" Android 'tablet' I made for $600
Great job! I think 13" would be THE size to experiment on since it would be almost the same as an A4 sheet of paper.
fara··on Android income experiment - or why AdMob sucks
AdMob doesnt work for such few installs. I have an app with 900 active installs which averages 600 impressions per day with 1%CTR. That makes only 30cents the best days...

fara··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (August 2011)
Please provide contact info.
fara··on Poll: What database does your company use?
It's really hard to compare results between both polls. It would be nice if pg added the percentages next to each item, or at least sort them.
fara··on Hacker News Search
Why at the bottom? I'm sure it's supposed to be more important than the footer. You could use SmashingMagazine resources when it comes to UX and design. It looks like you made almost all the frequent mistakes:

Placing the search box at the bottom of the page, or hiding it in the navigation menu.
Making the input field too short; users are forced to use short, imprecise queries, because longer queries would be hard and inconvenient to read.
Making the submit button too small, so that users have to point the mouse very precisely.
Making the search box hard to find.

fara··on I wanna work at Instagram
It doesn't mean she is not aware of the issue, she might have prioritized other things and make it "good enough" for other resolutions (even the ipad has a 1024px browser). Apple must know this issue and it's site also ads a scrollbar when the window is less than 1024px...

fara··on RockMelt
I'm begining to hate those background Apple-ish guitar songs.
fara··on Poll: What programming language do you use for your app/startup?
Dot Net is not a language.
fara··on ShowHN: Generate your own MTV (Last.fm+Youtube)
Great Idea! One rule of thumb should be not repeating songs of the same title (ie. covers). If I search Where is my mind from the Pixies, the next song is Placebo's cover.
fara··on The reverse job applicant

fara··on Rollover image on your website? That will be $80,000 (please)
I'm kind of glad this happens to Novartis.

Our company (devartis) received an oposition from Novartis against our trademark registration solicitude in Argentina due to the similarity of the names. The funny thing is that they registered theirs in a different category and the similar part is the word "artis" (which is art in latin), and dictionary words can't be owned.

I wonder how many software companies have the word soft in their names.
