fabianhjr··on EU Digital Markets Act, aimed at Google, Apple, Amazon, approved
> For example imagine a new company trying to build an iPhone with minimal app store, well guess what, now they have to also build support for third party store, developer tools, etc… which increases their cost to launch.

That new company won't have neither 45 million users nor over 7.5 Billion EUR turnover in the last 3 consecutive-years.

You are making a false and bad-faith argument against the regulation in question just to promote your laissez-faire ideology.

fabianhjr··on EU Digital Markets Act, aimed at Google, Apple, Amazon, approved
Requiring monopolistic platform megacorps to compete is similar to expropriating them. Got it.
fabianhjr··on Six programming languages I’d like to see
Monadic functional languages have native support for dependency injection and typeclasses/interfaces provide interoperability and easy mocking or alternative implementations with type-checking / propagation of which dependency they are using. (As to avoid mismatching between mocks and a real implementation for example)

fabianhjr··on As TikTok grows, so does suspicion
I would much rather have that over the Jakarta Method.
fabianhjr··on As TikTok grows, so does suspicion
¿Crees que solo hay dictaduras bajo gobiernos anti-capitalistas o es algo en donde por ejemplo Qatar (o Reino Unido) siendo monarquías constitucionales podrían superar en autoritarismo?
fabianhjr··on As TikTok grows, so does suspicion
More like "US during British Colonial Times" != "USA Today", for starters USA during Reagan and USA today have the same constitution and the same governmental system even if specific laws and lawmakers have changed
fabianhjr··on As TikTok grows, so does suspicion
Ah yes, compared to the constitutional monarchy of the United Kingdom.
fabianhjr··on As TikTok grows, so does suspicion
Russian Federation != Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

More so: Russian Federation != Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic

fabianhjr··on As TikTok grows, so does suspicion
Ah yes, also curiously enough the US is way more prone to completely embargo Cuba and Venezuela but neither Russia nor China. (Due to political-economic reasons and not moral/ethical ones)

Edit: profile I am replying to has the following in their about section: "about: I play music and I code videogames. I live in Brighton, UK." so assuming the "hi from venezuela" was sarcastic.

fabianhjr··on As TikTok grows, so does suspicion
I am from latin america and at least neither China nor Russia have participated in coup d'etat to install a military junta to then torture and massacre anyone slightly left of the US "Democratic" Party.

fabianhjr··on Problems at Roblox
There are two video investigations from People Make Games into economic aspects of Roblox in particular child labor/exploitation and monopolistic aspirations via platform capitalism.

1. Investigation: How Roblox Is Exploiting Young Game Developers ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gXlauRB1EQ )

2. Roblox Pressured Us to Delete Our Video. So We Dug Deeper. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTMF6xEiAaY )

fabianhjr··on Ask HN: I'm disabled and out of money. Now what?
Probably mostly meds if in the US; US citizens don't have access to cheap generic medications nor universal healthcare so something like chronic pain can cost a lot out of pocket.
fabianhjr··on FCC commissioner wants TikTok removed from app stores over spying concerns
> The US government, imperfect as it is, is democratically elected by US citizens.

The US president is elected by electors from the electoral college; the number of electors per state was influenced by the pro-slavery states. (Research the three-fifths-clause: https://www.wikiwand.com/en/United_States_Electoral_College#... )

Even soviet democracy is way more democratic than the US democracy: https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Soviet_democracy

fabianhjr··on FCC commissioner wants TikTok removed from app stores over spying concerns
Ah yes more neo-mercantilism / protectionism in the pro-"free market" country.

fabianhjr··on Russia Defaults on Foreign Debt for First Time Since 1918
Well if anything there are pretty much no clean hands on that regard: https://www.wikiwand.com/en/United_States_war_crimes

The US has set a high standard, nothing like napalming Vietnamese villages in case some guerilla fighters happen to be hiding there. (Or what about airstriking a busy highway and then releasing a "non-ideological" videogame blaming them CCCP/Russian Federation for it)

Even on just the political violence side: https://www.wikiwand.com/en/United_States_involvement_in_reg...

fabianhjr··on FTC action against Harley-Davidson and Westinghouse for limiting right to repair
In discourse big capital has done well to erase the distinction between personal and private property.

Big capital has been fighting to strengthen private property and eroding personal property.

- ¿Drawing a schematic of a thing you own for repair?

- ¿Creating a spare part to repair a thing you own?

Those infringe on companies private property so you must have no rights over your personal property.

fabianhjr··on SpaceX said to fire employees involved in letter rebuking Elon Musk
> If we believe in democracy, then allowing the economy to run by a patchwork of private command structures, with no internal democracy or accountability, should make our stomachs turn. Alexis de Tocqueville once asked; “can it be believed that the Democracy which has overthrown the Feudal system and vanquished Kings, will retreat before tradesmen and capitalists?”. The question he poses requires an address, and not all are shy to the challenge.

fabianhjr··on Shimano Forces Hammerhead to Remove All Di2 Related Functionality From Karoo
> I'm not a lawyer so don't know if they _need_ to have a license for the protocol, but presumably they think they do.

They don't but they were probably using a licensed library they no longer have access to and would need to develop their own library first.

fabianhjr··on MI officials fast-track bridge fix after man says it 'collapsed under my feet'
> If public spending is socialism

It isn't, my comment is a jab on US politics and discourse; though neoliberalism and "minarchism" has corroded the existing infrastructure through "austerity" (money redirection towards forever wars and imperialism) and red-scare tactics.

fabianhjr··on MI officials fast-track bridge fix after man says it 'collapsed under my feet'
> it just never gets fixed.

Its because public spending on infrastructure is "socialism" and it is better to give loans to private companies and let "the free market" fix the infrastructure; any day now.

Its an unexplained miracle the US hasn't collapsed yet.

fabianhjr··on Show HN: I am building a free version of Strava
Even if provided for free now by not being either libre source nor a cooperative what is stopping the negative aspects of Strava form creeping into this alternative?
fabianhjr··on Epic is asking a court to stop Google from yanking Bandcamp off the Play Store
At least in Android it is already the case, I have installed both F-Droid and Huawei's AppGallery in an otherwise stock android. (And prefer to get as much as possible from F-Droid)

Apple on the other hand has a war against "evil" sideloading. :P

fabianhjr··on Twitter buyout puts Mastodon into spotlight
Secure Scuttlebutt which has been discussed before here.

The protocol guide: https://ssbc.github.io/scuttlebutt-protocol-guide/

fabianhjr··on Twitter buyout puts Mastodon into spotlight
There can't be a singular global state; fediverse (federated) and other decentralized protocols have adopted subjective moderation.
fabianhjr··on Twitter buyout puts Mastodon into spotlight
A lot of instances (specially the bigger ones) have banned alt-right and fascist instances; most instances are either with good moderation or none at all.
fabianhjr··on Twitter buyout puts Mastodon into spotlight
It is federated like email so if you have an email (@gmail, @yahoo, @custom.domain, etc) they are all interoperable. (Modulo moderation / spam filters)

You don't have nor would be able to create an email address in all public email servers. (Without mentioning private/non-public email servers or personal/family ones of others)

fabianhjr··on Ask HN: What’s a good laptop for software development at around $2k?
There is almost no firmware support for the recent aarch64 Mac hardware.
fabianhjr··on HackerRank (YC S11) DMCA'ed the SymPy Docs [fixed]
I like open kattis and spoj. There are many open source judges that can be used for example in a course with course specific problems and templates. (a workplace could also create their own problems / challenges to test on)
fabianhjr··on Beanstalk cryptocurrency loses $182M of reserves in flash ‘attack’
That it can produce contradictory results, if you have contradictions then at least one must be in error which means that following the language construction rules can produce erroneous results.
fabianhjr··on Beanstalk cryptocurrency loses $182M of reserves in flash ‘attack’
Incompletness Theorem states that any system/language with primitive recursive arithmetic is either incomplete (since there is a construction of an undecidable statement via self reference) or unsound (since that same undecidable statement would be in contradiction)

AFAIK but speculating every programming language has primitive recursive arithmetic.
