so you mean we've figured out how to build large structures outside planet earth without the public knowing?
f430··on Wildtype: Sushi-grade salmon grown from Pacific Salmon cells
> It’s maybe not entirely accurate, but it seems at least in the ballpark of a reasonable description for a public company that’s never made money and has no legible path to making money.

Which is the whole point of YC. IPO over valued companies and dump it on the retailers while cashing out your chips. Never mind the structural dangers cheap capital pose when the cycle winds down.

isn't the whole purpose of using Auth0 so that this stuff never happens?

f430··on Corrupt Signal DB issue crashing App and losing data
can you explain why my question was downvoted

thanks for link couldn't find it on their webpage

f430··on Are top websites using WebGL for fingerprinting?
i think they are because I used to google "enjo kosai love hotels" in 2015 and it used to show me several establishments but now they block the results saying it is offensive.

since when the hell did Google an American corporation become the arbitrator of morality and truths?

This fingerprinting is closely tied to this. The sad part is that the web scraping technology that I've been invited access to easily bypasses this.

f430··on Ask HN: Does anybody feel like they are waiting around to die?
imagine if you bought 1000 bitcoins 10 years ago

how do you get over regrets like this?

f430··on Show HN: An open-source, self-hostable Heroku and Netlify alternative
What does it take to host this on Cloudfront or Cloudflare? Are they not the same thing as Vercel? What is the difference if I hosted a website on those two former providers vs Vercel?
f430··on Show HN: An open-source, self-hostable Heroku and Netlify alternative
How can I donate? I recommend you put a donate link on your website. I always support open source alternatives like this.

f430··on Open source is not a business model (2018)
Open source is as sustainable as a closed business model in some sectors as long as you are willing to be creative.

I've invested/funded/donated to several OS projects. I don't really expect to make money in most. I do it for the same reason I give large tips time to time.

Somebody has to do it because the value they are providing is IMMENSE.

I ask nothing in return. I give without really thinking about maximizing profit. The way I see it is that when you give to good cause the universe will reward you in ways you don't expect.

I encourage others who are successful to give to OS projects especially folks who work on projects full time with little to no way of supporting themselves because they can't memorize graph algorithms or do whiteboard interviews or neurally diverse.

As much as I have gripes with Github as a corporate entity, it's platform does serve a useful purpose in that it facilitates the movement of capital to OS projects.

f430··on Only Google is really allowed to crawl the web
100% doable. Like I said these type of blanket throttling seems to be the new trend but it's already defeated.

I just no longer see it possible to 1) put information on the web (private or public) 2) give access outside your organization (customers or visitors) 3) expect your website will not be scraped.

ToS is NOT the law unfortunately.

f430··on When Clubhouse Runs Out of Money
but they do have servers in PRC is what you are saying.
f430··on 'Do Not Split': A Hong Kong protest film [video]
okay I see where you are coming from. I will keep that in mind.
f430··on Only Google is really allowed to crawl the web
I can say this will give a lot of businesses false sense of security. It is already bypassable.

the Web scraping technology that I am aware of has reached end game already: Unless you are prepared to authenticate every user/visitor to your website with a dollar sign, lobby congress to pass a bill to outlaw web scraping, you will not be able to stop web scraping in 2021 and beyond.

f430··on 'Do Not Split': A Hong Kong protest film [video]
Understood but what I'm taking home here is that you are taking a side to issues regarding the CCP and it's abuse of human rights as "ideological and grandiose meta rhetoric".

You were more than happy to allow discussions of human rights abuses in America and elsewhere. I'm having trouble understanding why the CCP is restricted.

Here's another CCP human rights related discussion you shut down. I can name more examples. Please explain.

f430··on When Clubhouse Runs Out of Money
Why did they choose PRC to store their data?
f430··on Why the Wuhan lab leak theory shouldn't be dismissed
I recall many people calling the Wuhan lab leak theory as conspiracy on HN. They were adamant that it came from bats. Interestingly enough, those accounts were all brand new accounts and some haven't been active on HN for several months all of sudden started coming out of the wood works.
