ezfe··on Vermont replacing power plants with home batteries
In New England for decades and power outages >12 hours were very rare for me and I don’t recall any >24 hours. Multiple states and downtown/rural.
ezfe··on Transit rewards
I drive over the Bay Bridge into SF regularly. It has a bus/HOV lane past the toll metering, which is where a large amount of the traffic is.
ezfe··on I said no and Apple said yes
> Despite Pledges From Musk, Child Sexual Abuse Material Persists on X

I'm not sure how this has anything to do with Apple or Apple Intelligence (which is based Google technology, also unrelated to X / Musk)

ezfe··on Transit rewards
Bus / carpool lane going into the city at rush hour cuts 15-20 minutes from the drive. Just because it hits traffic doesn't mean it's a failure.
ezfe··on I said no and Apple said yes
What does Elon Musk have to do with Apple Intelligence? Why is that in this article?
ezfe··on Turn off and restrict access to Apple Intelligence features on Mac
You can just turn on E2E encryption for iCloud Photos
ezfe··on Ask HN: How to recover Google auth after phone stolen?
The passkey I use for Google syncs to multiple devices, so that's how I handle it. That and a backup code stored in a separate location.
ezfe··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
Makes sense - definitely an "unable" - I was just curious where the delay was coming, but that iMessage example really sounds like a system issue I agree.

Glad iOS 27 fixed it.

ezfe··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
> unable to share them

What does "unable" mean?

ezfe··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
They've never used Gemini, and they are not using Gemini here. Gemini and Siri AI are both based on Google technology though.
ezfe··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
Adding a stop at McDonalds on Google Maps won't necessarily work unless Google provides the hooks to accomplish that.

But yes, it can give you information on a topic in a way the old Siri couldn't.

ezfe··on Carmack: Has early Scratch experience led to fulfilling careers?
I loved scratch in seventh grade and now I’m a principal software engineer a few years out of college, but I think correlating the two would be problematic
ezfe··on It takes 5 cloud services to hear my doorbell
It's video surveillance, it makes it more likely they'll go elsewhere. That's literally the whole point of Ring.
ezfe··on Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX
Because one is better or worse? What else do you think they meant?
ezfe··on Suica, Japan's First IC Transit Card
Interestingly, but not exactly related - the OS update process will not start if you're connected to CarPlay. Probably to avoid automatic updates from triggering when you plug it in to charge in the car.
ezfe··on Suica, Japan's First IC Transit Card
I spent 2 weeks in Japan and used the Suica card near-daily in multiple cities. Sometimes it wouldn't even activate until I tapped it again, other times there was a delay.
ezfe··on Suica, Japan's First IC Transit Card
Suica cards (and transit express payments in other regions) work after iPhone batteries die for a few hours.
ezfe··on Suica, Japan's First IC Transit Card
That was not my experience in Japan; I found that it still took a second to go through every time, just like in New York/etc.

ezfe··on iCloud+ Hide My Email addresses will remain on icloud.com
You have the developer app installed. It does seem to be deep linking wrong.

Sign in with Apple email addresses are email addresses for the Sign in with Apple button.

It is a VPN in the sense that your traffic flows privately through a third party. This is what most people refer to when they say VPN.

It is not a VPN only in the technical approach.

It’s the outcome of a US court case that requires destruction of the original work
ezfe··on AI companies destroy physical books – let's scan rare books before it's too late
I dislike these AI companies but let's be clear here: the copyright holders are the ones locking these books up. If they don't want to print more copies, then they could release the copyright on them.

Instead, they enforce the copyright and force AI companies to shred books they want to ingest.

edit: Also, an AI company would only ever care to purchase, scan, destroy a book once. Presumably many books have more than one copy.

ezfe··on AI-Generated GitHub Copilot “Autofix” Allowed Compromise of Snowflake's Jira
What does that have to do with YAML?
ezfe··on Reviving a four year old reMarkable 2
The cloud sync is the thing that breaks here, not the device. I'll also point out that Macs at least have the exact same issues. When the clocks get out of sync the certificates start rejecting. Some versions of macOS cannot be installed anymore either because their certificates are misconfigured and expired already.
ezfe··on Europe EV Sales BEVs Jump 50% & Reach 26% Market Share
Plug & Charge, referring to the ability to Plug in and automatically process payment, is what I am referring to.

Tesla cannot Plug & Charge on any non-Tesla network. Whereas other vehicles can Plug & Charge on Tesla networks. Therefor, the advantage is to everyone else.

Teslas have poor charging curves and are not cutting edge for charging performance. They are average.

ezfe··on Europe EV Sales BEVs Jump 50% & Reach 26% Market Share
> Best charging experience

This isn't accurate - they charge slower and Plug & Charge is common in many vehicles now, including with the Tesla network - whereas Teslas cannot Plug & Charge on other networks.

It's always funny how AI-ified the text is on these websites. They can't resist using their own tools, even when it's not the right fit.

Why do people think I want to read a weird AI description that doesn't actually tell me anything about the product?
