extrapolate··on Six eBay executives and employees charged over alleged cyberstalking campaign
Looking at the affidavit [1], Executive 1 is definitely the ex-CEO.

> "On April 10, 2019... Executive 2 texted Executive 1... sending along a link to the Newsletter’s coverage that day [2] of Executive 1's compensation".

Paragraph 18 [1] mentions Executive 1 being upset about an Apr 10th article [2] on their compensation.

The graphs are cumulative, so the total is 8 TB (1TB on 5GHz and 7TB on 2.4GHz).
extrapolate··on SFMTA Offers Two Permits for One-Year Powered Scooter Pilot
tl;dr Scoot & Skip were selected.

The PDF[0] outlining SFMTA's evaluation criteria for each company application is interesting. A lot of them were rated pretty poorly, even Lime & Bird (especially) which both had a large presence before the shutdown.

Anyone able to actually purchase one? I'm just seeing a "Join waitlist" button.
extrapolate··on The Cyber Security Body of Knowledge
Page 4 of the Scope[0] document looks particularly useful in broadly (albeit briefly) highlighting the various domains inside computer security.

Could be a nice 1 pager for highlighting some of the things I do to outsiders. Would be useful to those looking to get into this field (i.e. CS undergrad) too.

extrapolate··on What Data Does Facebook Collect When I’m Not Using Facebook, and Why?
Here are some numbers [1]:

> Over the last week ... the Like button appeared on 8.4M websites covering 2.6B webpages, the Share button on 931K websites covering 275M webpages, and there were 2.2M Facebook pixels installed on websites

Did you read literally the first 2 sentences of the article?
extrapolate··on Ask HN: Is it possible to run your own mail server for personal use?
Using postgrey[0] fixed this problem for me, a few months back I started getting hammered with spam and now get virtually zero.

extrapolate··on How to trick a neural network into thinking a panda is a vulture
Great read! Time to troll some of my machine learning co-workers.

"Can you classify this image of a panda? Oh, curious, it thinks it is a vulture..."

A few minutes after that part in the video he shows a demo of how it "uses sensors to adjust the door opening arc" or something and discusses the height issue.

Edit: It is at 20 minutes in.

extrapolate··on HTTPS Everywhere Version 5: Sixteen New Languages and Thousands of New Rules
Good point! It looks like all of the rules are here[1], so as long as there is oversight by the EFF, their repo isn't compromised, someone doesn't put out a fake build, etc., we should be safe.

Also it looks like[2] some rules are built in such a way that only the protocol is changed and the domain is left as-is.

extrapolate··on Snapdragon processors address mobile security with smartphone kill switch
There needs to be another party in there to communicate with the phone regardless, right? I simply interpret that quote to mean you can use the "switch" with a 3rd party service like Android Device Manager / Cerberus, that Qualcomm is not operating directly.

Actually, looking at the video it appears they're partnering with https://www.lookout.com/ for this.

extrapolate··on CSS changes that increased Reddit account creation by 200K yearly users
IIRC they probably mean to detect them through how they operate on the website, rather than how they register (tracking navigation, how they upvote/downvote, and what content they post).
extrapolate··on CSS changes that increased Reddit account creation by 200K yearly users
Quote from a previous article (so I wouldn't attribute all 8% to bots):

We’re experimentally removing CAPTCHA and using other methods for spambot detection.
We know it’s annoying for humans, and are starting to worry the bots are actually enjoying it.
Plus, our visual CAPTCHA was failing on accessibility for non-visual redditors.
extrapolate··on Rapportive clone fills void left by LinkedIn
Honestly I would just be happy with an extension that uses local storage to store notes on a per-contact basis like Rapportive used to. I don't need any other fancy features and don't want to worry about a privacy policy/ToS.
extrapolate··on For Sale: 29,656.51306529 Bitcoins
On the contrary, virtually no exchange can currently provide that kind of liquidity, so if someone is looking to be a Bitcoin bag-holder this is a great entry point. So I wouldn't be surprised if it went for > market value.
extrapolate··on Is that photo legit? Izitru offers an answer
Seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. And I'm weary as to how reliable their automated methods for tamper detection are (if someone really cares they would want every image manually examined anyway).

It also seems like these two quotes are contradictory:

> It won't necessarily help you figure out if a photo shared on Facebook is too good to be true...

> ...Izitru also could help when people need to send photos to...others who would want to be sure a photo is legitimate

Edit: Nevermind, j15e clarified.

extrapolate··on Linode down in Newark data center

extrapolate··on Multiplayer Genetic Cars
The track/car generation is done through JS, so some modifications aren't anything Chrome Dev Tools can't handle. Add to that the fact that the "best" car is populated into the gene pools of all the other users and that's the outcome.
