He had security. The guy got apprehended immediately after. Clearly they weren’t trained to deal with guns and/or were incompetent to not be aware of their surroundings.
You're right, scaling is another topic. If you can produce 5 prototypes you can produce 500 of them. Making that happen at scale in a timely manner requires introduction of automation, assembly lines, humans, checks and so forth. However, I argue beyond being laborious it's not any sort of impossibility as compared to something like FSD.
The latter two are just a matter of mass production, intentionally delayed in favor of other priorities. FSD is certainly possible, and good headway is being made on it. When it’ll be as good as a human however is an unresolved matter setting aside the hype and speculation.
Misleading if you consider “EV” as referring to fully battery electric vehicles. BYD was able to surpass in sales for the second quarter purely because their factories were outside Shanghai (which was locked down). Another thing to note is China’s BYD also makes considerably less margin (if at all from their sales, mostly serving the domestic market in China). Clickbait, because most people don’t bucket hybrids as EVs in part because most people simply use them as ICE cars.
The standard for civil cases is low compared to a criminal trial where someone has to present a case of intent beyond a reasonable doubt. Suggesting that there's orders from the company top to engage in racism is absurd and requires evidence. So far, as far as we are aware, it's a game of he-said-she-said between employees/supervisors. Tesla cannot blanket deny that the harassment didn't happen, but they can deny giving any such instruction to promote it. The court determined that regardless of the employees ultimately responsible for the harassment, Tesla was on the hook for paying them for the behavior. "Not doing enough" is a completely subjective measure.
Indeed, and definately some bandwagoning involved. If one group gets an outsized settlement, then others are inspired to do dirt digging to do the same. Alleging pervasive racism is a tall order, and the evidence presented thus far amounts to he-said-she-said and between workers and some supervisors as far as we're aware of and not some leadership thing to go as far to say "standard operating procedure".
You’re being downvoted, but for rather silly reasons. There are people who wrongly assume less people means higher quality of life for everyone else. There’s simply no empirical data to back such a claim up. The most concerning growth is unsustainable growth, exponential growth that cannot be sustained which causes immediate stress on the local economy. Likewise, there’s also economic stress when the opposite happens as economies are built under the guise of population growth, not just capitalism.
What we see continually rather is a narrative of overpopulation pushed and advanced by seemingly related points about lack of food and water. In reality these are completely orthogonal points which have some correlation to, but are not directly proportional to population growth all.
No code samples without digging into links in the documentation doesn’t seem very inviting. Especially when the project itself is a programming language.
I thought it was just me also. At first my assumption was "OK, I'm being redirected a bunch of texts from other numbers", as nobody else I asked had similar problems (and I wasn't really being scammed at all). Some of the scammers even sent pictures to make them seem more legitimate. On iOS, the green bubbles and just continual flow of similar texts eventually made it suspicions that I don't even reply wrong number anymore. I just delete and block.
Disagree. It’s easy to see how far FSD has progressed, there’s lots of videos to document how far it’s gone from then and today. It’s also not easy to say they’ve reached the point of diminishing returns (which generally takes a massive amount of data to hit, even GPT3 has not hit it) as it’s not clear how much of FSD is powered by heuristic based code and what is NNs. Judging by some of the discussions there’s still a significant amount of C/C++ code in the loop that could be improved by moving them to NNs.
This is a hollow argument since none of their competitors that also are faring any better either. SpaceX is delivering close to their promise now years before they have to. It's an alarmist piece by teleco like the clock is close to timing out and things are heading south. Over time they will improve the hardware to have higher bandwidth capability, such as with their v2 satellites, with further improvements to the hardware likely later on.
> dont want to pay for billionaires entertainment
It's not "entertainment". It's actually delivering value to underserved customers, there's no need to inject politics or personal vendettas into this.
If you take an overly simplistic view of things then yes every ruling is partisan everywhere. This by itself is not a meaningful insight because all forms of government will be corrupt. The purpose of SCOTUS isn’t to rule based on what the desired outcome is, it’s to rule based on what the law explicitly does say and is permitted to say per the Constitution. I believe if we set aside climate change, for most reasonable people it’s not hard to see that the executive branch took action that the legislative branch never gave them, (and likely did so because they knew such laws could not pass Congress).
Congress can’t just say “do whatever you want to fix X problem”. They have to be explicit with what powers they delegate to the executive branch and what they are permitted to do. Otherwise the law is plain unconstitutional since breaks the fundamental separation of powers. The purpose of SCOTUS is not to decide cases based on the desired outcome. It’s to decide based on what the law actually says, not what it should say.
Consensus doesn’t just mean 51%. It means general agreement. If you have 100 people in a room, 51 people are in favor of something and the other 49 are not, is that your “consensus”? Prior to the US each of the states were their own sovereign entities. Why enter the US (or stay in it) if you are going to be ruled against your will? The states agreed to give up some of their power and joined under the explicit conditions of the senate that they would have an equal say.
Congress has to be explicit with what powers they delegate. They can’t just say “do whatever you want to fix this problem”. Neither does it say that in the law. It’s not the job of SCOTUS to give you the outcome you want. It’s to rule on what the law does say and is constitutionally acceptable.
Then it should explicitly delegate that to the executive branch where applicable, as it does for other things. You don’t just throw away separation of powers because it’s convenient.
Yes become a boring company nobody cares about like the rest of the car industry. Nobody should try and innovate with futuristic products and become
bureaucratic behemoths like the government, which has an excellent track record of success.
No, that’s typical software development. Find a bug in circulation, fix and deploy a fix. There are probably hundreds of internal issues that get fixed per normal protocol, as with any piece of software. Putting out a “recall” or alert for every modification to the code is pointless. What regulators need to do is keep up with the times. They need to have their own safety test suite which manufacturers can test against, and be independently audited
This specifically is focused around machine learning, more specifically reinforcement learning. It’s more significant as work done on the ML/RL front can be applied more broadly than just algorithms hard coded to play a specific game like Minecraft.
I don’t doubt that in the future, Teslas and Apple cars won’t have a steering wheel. Level 3 autonomy is already being tested by some manufacturers. However I can’t imagine not being able to buy a car with a steering wheel. Even if the car was super good at self driving, better than most humans, there will always be a market for low tech drive it yourself cars.
All companies should seek to be ambitious. It’s one thing to have a tangible product in development be hyped and other to be selling literal vaporware without the internet of delivering or lying about possessions.
Terrible name, but good idea. However, the ecosystem for social media apps is so polluted (just open any app store and see all the "social media app" spam) that gaining any sort of market share is likely not possible.
I agree with most of the points except for the Python indentation argument. I think that’s entirely subjective (I think good on the premise that enforces consistent code structure), but almost all the other points aren’t without substance.
